Hey! I hope you can help!! I'm starting college in the fall and I want to become an Imagineer. I signed up to major in Engineering and Technology, but I'd really like to know some place I could get more specifics on qualifications. I've been to the jobs website, but I can't find what I need. Does anyone know or have any sites that would help?? Thanks!

From the dust jacket of "Imagineering, A Behind eht eDreams Look at Making the Magic Real (http://search.barnesandnoble.com/booksearch/isbnInquiry.asp?z=y&EAN=9780786883721&itm=2)" This unique group of artists, architects, engineers, writers, machinists, landscape designers, financiers, model makers, sound technicians, carpenters, producers, accountants, filmmakers, custodians, schedulers, estimators, and support staff members all participate in the Imagineering process to bring to life the wonderful magic of the Disney theme parks around the world
I would NOT decide on your college major based getting a job at a single company. What happens if they aren't hiring when you get out and you're 'stuck' trying to get a job in the field of your major? Would you still be happy?

Kinda going along what Drince said - do not try to fit your major around a particular job and/or company. Trust me - I know from experience. Similar to you I wanted to get into engineering because I wanted to work for a particular place doing a particular thing. I ended up doing something totally different yet extremely satisfying. Besides, many people change their majors at least once in their college career so the best thing to do is to major in something that you think will interest you in the long run. Engineering and Technology? You really cant go wrong there. (But I may be a little biased.)
Once you get rolling in your studies you will most likely find the things that you like to do the most that revolve around your studies. That may be a hint as to something you might be able to offer Disney in the future. Keep in mind that in the eyes of Disney, imagineering is not necessarily the same as engineering sort of speak since, like Drince quoted, it encompasses much more than that.
At the same time, while it would be great to land a Disney your first job out of college, it never hurts to get some "outside" experience as well. So always keep your options open. :)
Hope that helps...

Thanks guys! I just think it would be really cool to work for Disney. I'm constantly on these boards and reading about Disneyland history. I'm just fascinated...so one day my mom said I should work for them, and there's the story. Anyway, thanks for all the help!

The book I linked to is a really cool book for anyone just interested in Disney, too!

If that is a goal that you have, by all means, pursue it. Study what you love and then build up a portfolio of skills and experience. All those things help landing the job you want with the company that you want. In most cases, it takes some time but perseverance pays off.
With a little humor: Getting through college is hard enough... Overcome that hurdle and you will be well on your way. And that is the voice of experience speaking. :)

If you are interested in becoming an Imagineer I would suggest trying to get an internship with WDI. That way you can see if working for Disney is something that you would like doing and it doesn't set you back at all. The internships are very difficult to get but are amazingly fun if you manage to get one. I had an internship at WDI and it was a wonderful experience that I will always remember.
