PLANNING

Paul bought a small business in March 2005. We went to Disney World late January/early February 2005 and bought annual passes.

We knew Paul probably wouldn’t get a chance to take many other vacations this year, but there are several friends/family members that have all expressed an interest in going to Disney so I’ll be traveling with others this year.

I spent a week in Disney in early May with Phil (my brother in law) and his partner Peter at the Wilderness Lodge. With the annual pass I was able to get a good price booking one room for me and one room for them.

I also spent a week in Disney in late May with Kim (a friend from work) and her husband David at Coronado Springs. With the annual pass I was able to get a good price booking one room for me and one room for them.

I spent 4 days at Disney in September going solo. This trip went through several changes of different people and at the end no one was able to go. I had the October trip booked already and had some extra points left on my timeshare to use so took the plunge and went for a few days solo and stayed at Vistana.

This trip has changed several times as well. I knew I wanted to get to Disney at least one more time this year. The annual pass is anxious to be used again. I also still have my timeshare to use (Vistana).

The first incarnation of this trip was to be with my Jennifer (my sister), Kevin (my brother in law), and Jillian (my niece). After a lot of back and forth they decided they couldn’t afford a Disney trip this year – even though they were going to stay in my timeshare so wouldn’t have to pay for a hotel.

The second incarnation of this trip was that I was going to go with my friend Kim (same girl from the second trip in May). She ended up not being able to go either.

Pete and Lilly also have a timeshare near Disney at Orange Lake Resort. Their vacation has been booked for months. They’ve been asking me to go with them all along. Going during those dates with various people was a possibility all along and we would meet up with them there.

Now it’s down to me going when Pete and Lilly are there and meeting up with them, but I’ll be in my timeshare myself. I’m hoping Paul (my husband) can tear himself away from his business for a few days (maybe a long weekend) to join us but I’m not counting on that happening. I found out that Pete & Lilly will have another couple (Simon & Kelly) staying in their timeshare and joining us for this trip.

I’m excited about going in October because both Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween party and the Food and Wine Festival will be happening while I’m there.

The dates of this trip go into my busy season at work so there is a possibility that I may have to cancel. I’m hoping not since I’m really excited about going.

I will try to note the prices I paid for things throughout the trip but won’t be compulsive about it.

Lodging
On 8/10/05 I called Vistana and booked my timeshare for Thursday 10/13/05 through Friday 10/21/05. I own a two-bedroom two-bath timeshare. If it’s just me or even when it’s Paul and me, we don’t need that much space. I found out I can stay in a smaller one bedroom-one bath and use less points than I have on my two bedroom so can stay for more than a week and can go more than once. I booked the one bedroom premium which has all the amenities of the two bedroom without the second bedroom and second bathroom. It has a master bedroom, master bath, Jacuzzi, full kitchen, living room, dining room, washer/dryer, screened patio, etc.

Car Rental
On 8/10/05 I booked a car through National Car Rental on line. A full size with unlimited miles for $307.83. I was able to go back into the National Car Rental website a few days later and for the same full size with unlimited miles, get it for $263.36. This is still pretty expensive, but what can I do. When I was in Disney in May I reserved full size cars with National and paid about $120 including tax for a week. Maybe this is a more in demand time?

Flight
On 8/10/05 I booked my flight online. Although I live in New Jersey and used to prefer to fly out of Newark, I found out that JFK is only 48 miles from my house (vs 43 to Newark airport) and I really like Jet Blue. They had great rates of $59 each way to Orlando so I wanted to take advantage of that. On Thursday 10/13/05 it’s flight #59 leaving from JFK Airport at 10:40 am landing in Orlando at 1:20 pm. Coming home Friday 10/21/05 it’s flight #154 leaving Orlando at 7:50pm and landing at JFK Airport at 10:20 pm.

I will drive to JFK and have reserved a parking spot at Avistar who I used last time I flew out of JFK.

Food
This will be a challenge this trip, as I became a vegetarian in November 2004 and am still figuring out what I like to eat without meat, chicken, or fish in my diet. When Paul and I were in Disney in January I had trouble finding things to eat.

Admission Media
I have an annual pass so no new admission media is needed for Disney.

I really want to go to Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween party so will need to buy a ticket for that. I ordered my ticket online on 8/30/05 for the 10/16/05 event. I’m having it sent to me (rather than picking up at will-call) so my total cost is $40.23.

Pete and Lilly want to go to Universal so I will need to buy a pass for that. I know Jen (my sister) will want to go to Universal next year (she’s now planning to come next year to Disney with me). After looking on line a two day hopper is about $99; while a limited Annual Hopper Pass is about $119. There are certain blackout dates (mainly in the summer) and it doesn’t include parking. So that may be what I’ll buy, but I’ll wait until I’m in Florida to decide for sure.

I still want to see Cirque De Soleil.

General Planning

DAY BY DAY

The week before the trip
Busy as usual leading up to it knowing I’d be out for a little over a week. We’ve been having horrible weather. It’s been raining everyday; some days really torrential rain.

The day before the trip – Wednesday 10/12/05
This day was crazy busy. I mentioned earlier that my busy season at work is starting. There is a big project that I’m working on and was planning to get it as wrapped up as possible before I leave for Disney so any extra work for my coworkers would be minimal while I was gone. I ended up staying at work until 1am (a very long day since I was there at 7:30am that morning). I thought I’d have a nice fast drive home at that time even in the rain that was still coming down.

I made it to the Lincoln Tunnel and out of the city and into New Jersey pretty quickly, but things went downhill from there. I was on Route 17 headed North when a section of the road was closed due to flooding. I managed to go back, get on another road I knew, and come out back on Route 17 past the closed flooded area. I thought I was home free now. No such luck. A little further north and there is another road closure also due to flooding. This time, unfortunately, I didn’t know how to get around it. I called Paul practically in tears because I didn’t know how I would get home. I was planning to drive back to the City and take the George Washington Bridge into New Jersey (another route I could have chosen to go home, but very out of the way for me to go back and do now). He didn’t know any other routes from there either but suggested I go to a gas station to get directions to a main highway that would take me North. I saw a gas station, but it was on the other side of the closed flooded road so I couldn’t get to it. I drove back South (toward the city) and found another gas station. I figured if I could get to the Garden State Parkway I could find my way home. The gas station attendant had no clue. I got gas while I was there. I started talking with a truck driver who was also stuck and couldn’t figure out a way through the flood. I remembered that if I head back towards the city, I could probably get to the NJ Turnpike and take that North. A little out of my way also, but not as bad as going all the way back into the city. The truck driver couldn’t do that since he said something about not being allowed to drive on certain roads.

Heading back towards the city and finding the Turnpike worked. It took a while, but I managed to get home. I didn’t arrive home until after 3am. I finished my packing (luckily most of it was already done) and went to bed around 4am for a few hours.

Thursday 10/13/05

6am I got up. I was very tired after the saga from last night. I took Kiki (our dog) for a walk. Paul had one of his workers opening for him, so he was able to sleep in today. He was up to see me off and carry the luggage out to the car for me.

7:45am I left for the airport. It is still pouring out. I stopped at the bagel place to get a bagel to eat on the plane $1.45. The rain caused traffic to move slower than it should have.

9am I arrived at Avistar, got my luggage on their van, and was on my way to the airport.

9:15am I was at JFK in the Jet Blue line. The line was fairly long. It took about 20 minutes to get to the counter. By 9:35am I was checked in and went through security and to the gate. There was a display about Apples and free different types of apples. I took one and ate it while waiting since they looked really good.

10:15am we started boarding the plane. The flight was full. We took off about 20 minutes late – around 11am. The pilot came on the speaker and talked about the flying time and mentioned that we are leaving rainy skies and unfortunately, will be landing to similarly cloudy and rainy weather in Florida. The flight was the normal quick flight to Florida. I ate my bagel. I dozed off a little bit too.

1:20pm we landed, but sat on the runway for a while. I went to get my luggage. I guess it was outside for a bit because the top was a little wet. I hope the clothes aren’t wet too. When I packed, although I didn’t pack the clothes in Ziplocs or plastic, I did layer the top of the suitcase with big plastic bags. I didn’t think of doing it for the rain, but wanted to have them in case I needed to bring home dirty clothes.

I went to the National Car rental counter and waited in line here too. Once I got to the garage, there were no full size cars there so the person working there said to take one from the Alamo row. I found a Silver full size Pontiac something or other (I think it was Pontiac) in the full size Alamo row, loaded up my luggage, and was on my way. What’s odd is the car had a National ticket in it (instead of Alamo); I didn’t realize they were interchangeable. It’s cloudy and humid out, but it seems like the rain has stopped.

2:45pm I arrived at Vistana to check in. There was no one else there checking in so I walked right up to the counter. At first the woman checking me in said there is no housekeeping with this stay. I asked why since it’s 9 days and I paid the $45 split housekeeping fee last month. She looked into it some more and it is now corrected and I’m scheduled to have housekeeping come on Monday. Good news – my room is ready. Cascades room 2727. The set up is the mirror image of the room I had last month. I dropped my luggage in the room and drove to Epcot. I had a weird parking issue at Epcot. They weren’t directing you to a particular row, you would just choose whatever row you wanted. However, the row I chose had no spots available. Unlike a mall or a normal parking lot the rows only have traffic going one way so I had to exit the parking lot and re-enter and try again. I chose another row and had the same issue. I gave up and drove to the Yacht & Beach Club to the Beach Club side and parked there. I know it’s not what you’re supposed to do, but I was tired and after two tries at Epcot’s parking lot, I parked here.

4:15 I arrived at the Beach Club. I saw a Magic Kingdom bus and got on. I wanted to look for the Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party T Shirts. I was told they only come out during the party. Kim from work asked me to pick up a Hula Stitch for her so I did. I also bought one of those plastic bracelets. I got a lime green one since that’s the color the Dis Boards uses to identify its members. I was still tired and really wanted to go to Epcot so I left the Magic Kingdom by 5pm and took the bus back to the Beach Club.

I took the boat to Epcot because I wanted to walk around the World Showcase during the Food and Wine Festival. It was very convenient entering through the International Gateway.

I passed the Canada booth where they were selling ice wine. I’ve heard about this, but never tried it. I don’t normally like wine, but am often trying it hoping to find one I like. $4.50 and a little glass of ice wine later, I still don’t have a wine I like.

At the Greece booth I bought the Spanikopitta (spinach in phyllo) for $2.75. This was very good and I enjoyed it. I’m limited to the things I’ll eat at the food and wine festival since many of the offerings include chicken, meat, or fish.

At the Puerto Rico booth I had the guava turnover for $1.50 – this was very good too.

At the Scandinavia booth I got the rice cream with strawberry sauce for $1. This was very good and tasted just like the rice cream I’ve bought and enjoyed in the Norway bakery. This was a little tiny taster cup for $1. I can get a full cup for about $2.50 so the next time I’m in the mood for rice cream, I’ll stick with the bakery in Norway.

The India booth also had rice pudding for $1. This rice pudding was terrible. I’m not sure what was in it, but after one bite I threw it out. This is just my opinion as I’m sure others loved it, but since it’s my report, I can only post my opinions.

The Spain booth had a tortilla which was a potato and onion omelet for $1.50. This was a huge chunk of food. It was OK, but on the greasy side. I had a few bites then threw it out.

The big problem with touring the booths at the Food and Wine Festival without Paul is that a lot of food goes to waste. I want to sample a variety of items so keep buying them and taking a bite here and a bite there and then throwing the rest out.

I watched some of the performers around the World Showcase. I didn’t plan anything just wandered by and if something was going on I’d watch it.

When I got back to the International Gateway, I exited and took the boat back to the Beach Club.

7:45pm I drove over to Publix for some groceries. I bought bottled water, soda, breakfast items, ice cream (Edy’s Dibs), and disposable cameras. I spent $56.85 at Publix. When I was checking out the bottled water rang up incorrectly so I got one of the two twelve packs for free. They were marked two twelve packs for $6, but scanned at $3.99 each so I ended up paying $3.99 for the two twelve packs (pretty good deal). The guy who packed my groceries walked me out to the car and loaded them into the trunk for me.

8:20pm I was back at Vistana. It took 3 trips to get the groceries up. Unfortunately, there wasn’t one of those luggage carts or I could have done it in one trip. What’s really odd is the parking area by the section of villas I’m in are at an angle. I don’t really like parking at such an angle so I haven’t been parking right in front of the entrance but a little down. I put the groceries away, unpacked and called Paul. I watched the Apprentice at 9pm.

10pm I went to bed. I was exhausted. I didn’t even go in the Jacuzzi tonight. I probably should have taken Paul’s advice and not ran around today and rested more. I was really too tired to enjoy the parks as much as I would have if I wasn’t so tired.

Friday 10/14/05
For the first time in months, I didn’t have to set an alarm. Paul had one of his workers open for him so I didn’t have to get up at 5am to call him.

7:30am I woke up and called Paul. He said to call at whatever time I get up. I showered, got dressed, and had breakfast in the timeshare. I made scrambled eggs and an English muffin. Then had a little pineapple.

Last weekend I bought a pair of Keen Sandals and wore them for the first time today.

9:40am I arrived at Epcot and went straight to the Land. The wait for Soarin was already 45 minutes so I got a fastpass good for 11:25-12:25. I waited about 20 minutes for Living with the Land.

Journey into Imagination had a 5 minute wait. Usually this is a complete walk on.

It’s more crowded than I expected for this time of year, but it is Columbus Day week. I’m assuming that after this weekend the crowds will die down.

10:30am I lined up at the Food and Wine Festival Center for the 11am Nobilo – New Zealand – Wine Tasting Seminar. The seminar started at 11am. They had a few technical issues getting it started. It was a very nice set up – we sat in rows like in school. We sampled 5 different Nobilo wines:

White Wines:
1 – Regional Collection Sauvignon Blanc
2 – Icon Sauvignon Blanc
3 – Regional Collection Chardonnay

Red Wines:
1 – Icon Pinot Noir
2 – Regional Collection Merlot

They all tasted more or less the same to me and I’m still not a wine fan. No extra charge for the wine seminar.

12pm – Test Track listed the single rider line at 30 minutes; however, it turned out to be maybe 15 minutes. I saw the Hummer H3 on display after the ride (the smaller Hummer). It still looks pretty big to me.

I headed to the World Showcase walking past the Odyssey to see where the 2:30 Alan Wong Culinary demonstration would take place.

I headed into Mexico and rode El Rio Del Tiempo. There was a 5 minute line. Once we were underway, there was a very annoying family behind me on the boat. They didn’t stop talking for 2 seconds.

In Norway I joined the line for Maelstrom which was listed as 15 minutes. They needed a party of 1 so I went ahead of a bunch of people. I was off Maelstrom at 2 so couldn’t stay for the movie as I had to head back to the Odyssey.

I got in line at the Odyssey for the 2:30 – Alan Wong Restaurant – Hawaii – Culinary Demonstration. I tried calling Lilly while waiting but the number saved in my cell phone is her old number so I’ll have to stop back at Vistana to check my phone book for her new number. Pete and Lilly are flying down tomorrow morning and we’re planning to meet up at Universal.

The Demo started a little late – about 2:45 since the Caviar presentation went late. I met a nice couple in line that I spoke with which made the wait go quickly. Once we were let in, I sat with them too. There were various round tables set up and you just sat wherever you wanted. This was a very nice demonstration. Alan Wong cooked and told us various things about Hawaii. He made croutons, dressing, cheese baskets, etc. We got to sample various foods.

Waiters came around with slices of hearts of palm for us to try. These were cold and good.

Next they passed trays of chocolates from Hawaii. Then they passed Hamakua Mushroom (very good too). All the while things are being passed around Alan Wong is coking and giving us some history of the items we are sampling. Next they passed around bowls of Hamakua Springs plain goat cheese and goat cheese with red pepper (this one was spicy). Next bowls of Taro cubes and poi were passed around. The waiters next came by with strawberries and a sweet goat cheese dip.

The final dish was the main course that Alan Wong was cooking. Each person received a small plate of Kalua pig Caesar salad with crispy cheese baskets with poi vinaigrette and anchovy dressing. It wasn’t really served to us in the cheese baskets, but the baskets were crushed up and we received pieces of them since we were getting a sample size. It was interesting how they made the cheese baskets – once the cheese is warm, circle shaped discs of the cheese are put over an upside down glass. Gravity makes the sides come down and as it cools it’s shaped like a bowl. I ate the salad part and the basket part, but picked out the kalua pig. There was a lot of food to snack on here – so much that it ended up being lunch for me. And there was no extra charge for this seminar.

I used my Fast Pass at Soarin then headed out of Epcot.

4:15pm I was back at Vistana. I called Lilly to make plans to meet up tomorrow. Then I called Paul. I took another shower before going out again. It’s hotter out than I expected it to be.

5pm I drove to Downtown Disney’s West Side to see if there are any tickets available for the 6pm Cirque De Soleil La Nouba show. There is a special going on where annual pass holders get 25% off level 2 seats. I went to the first window and asked if there are any tickets available for tonight’s show and was told it’s sold out but to go to the standby window.

5:30pm they started selling standby seats. When it was my turn the woman said I didn’t need to go standby since they had plenty of single seats available; but she was very helpful and found me a good seat. I bought my level 2 ticket with the annual pass discount for a total of $59.91. I was in section 202, row EE, Seat 19. I headed in – this was a very good seat, on the aisle, and close to the center.

The show was mesmerizing and the 90 minutes flew by.

7:50pm I debated going to the Magic Kingdom to see the 9pm showing of Wishes. I decided to just wander instead. I walked from the West Side through Pleasure Island to the MarketPlace. World of Disney was packed.

8:30pm I took the boat from the Market Place to the West Side. I drove back to Vistana, called Paul, and cooked some frozen pizza for dinner.

9pm I watched Hope & Faith, then Hot Properties on TV. I started some laundry.

10pm I went in the Jacuzzi, read a little, watched TV, and went to sleep.

Saturday 10/15/05
I got up at 6:30am to wake Paul – he opens later on the weekends. Then I went back to sleep for a little while.

I got up at 7:30, showered and got dressed. I had breakfast in the timeshare – an English muffin and some pineapple.

Pete and Lilly are arriving today around 10:30/11am and we have plans to meet up at Universal.

9:30 I drove over to the Marketplace. I figured I’d pick up some souvenirs and can wander around waiting for them to call. World of Disney was relatively empty at this time. I don’t buy that many souvenirs for my family anymore from Disney since I come here so often. I usually just buy a few things for my niece. Sometimes I’ll buy things for my department at work (there are only 4 of us). I also bought myself the Cinderella DVD. I spent $88.34 in World of Disney with my Annual Pass discount. I spent an additional $41.54 in Disney’s Day of Xmas. I also stopped in Basin and bought the mini vanilla bath bomb $2.82 with the annual pass discount. My packages were getting heavy so I put them in the trunk and went back to World of Disney. There was a cute fleece jacket I saw. It was too hot out to try something that heavy on so I decided I could come back another time and decide if I want it.

12:15pm I still haven’t heard from Pete and Lilly. I guessed they might have been able to check into their timeshare (Orange Lake in Kissimmee) and that was the delay. I went to Earl of Sandwich and ordered a Caprese for lunch $5.28. I figured I’d bring it back to Vistana, drop off my packages, eat, and then meet Pete and Lilly. There was a huge line which took over 20 minutes.

12:40pm Pete and Lilly called. They were going to McDonald’s to get some lunch then wanted to head to Universal. They would call me back after McDonalds.

I drove back to Vistana (about 5 minutes), dropped my packages and ate my lunch. They called about 1:05 and were ready to head to Universal. We planned to meet in the Barney Area.

1:40pm I arrived at Universal. It cost $9 to park. There was a huge line to buy tickets with only two windows open. I bought an annual Power Pass for $119.95 + tax for a total of $127.75. This is an annual pass for both parks (Universal Studios and Islands of Adventure) with blackout dates in the summer, Christmas week, and Easter week. It does not include parking. There is also a preferred annual pass for $179.95 + tax with no blackout dates and includes parking. I think the power pass made sense since 1 day is $59.95, 2 days are $99.95. It’s only $20 more to have an annual pass over the 2 days pass. My sister (who is supposed to come to Disney with me next year) wants to go to Universal.

After purchasing my ticket, I had to go to Vacation Services in the park to get my pass with my picture on it. There was another long line to wait in. This isn’t the best process. The woman here was very nice. I called Lilly to let her know where I was.

2:30pm – Finally with my annual pass in hand, I headed over to Barney to meet them. They have a two year old daughter named Kirsten. I found them in Barney’s playground. Lilly was on a bench resting. She told me she just did InVitro last week and has to take it easy. They have been trying for a second baby for a while.

3pm – We saw the Barney show. I never saw this before since I don’t normally travel with children. It was very cute. We took pictures with Barney after. Pete took Kirsten into Fievel’s playground and I hung out with Lilly. I had a picture taken with Scooby Doo.

4:15pm – We headed over to the Fear Factor Live Show that started at 4:30. This was good. They used audience members to perform stunts similar to the TV show. The show was about ½ hour long.

5:15pm – We got on line for Shrek which was about 20 minutes. Kirsten fell asleep while in line. We all enjoyed the attraction – the seats rock and jerk around.

5:50pm – We walked quickly across to Jimmy Nuetron. The wait was posted at 20 minutes but we walked right on. The park closed at 6pm so we made our way to the exit. We were parked in the same section same row. Based on where the cars were, I arrived maybe 5 minutes before them. Unfortunately, waiting to buy the pass took a long time.

Tomorrow, I have Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party (MNSSHP) so I will meet back up with Pete and Lilly on Monday.

I stopped at Wendy’s to get some dinner to go to eat in the timeshare before heading to the Magic Kingdom. I ordered chicken tenders, French fries, and a side Caesar salad all from the 99 cents menu. My total was $3.17. Even though I’m a vegetarian and don’t eat chicken, meat, or fish, every once in a while I’ll try a chicken tender dipped in honey mustard. I used to love chicken tenders before I became vegetarian. I managed to eat one before I was grossed out by the fact that it was once an animal. The salad had bacon bits in it that I picked out.

7:45pm I left Vistana to head to the Magic Kingdom that is open until 11pm tonight.

8pm – I was already in the tram with the car safely parked in the 3rd spot in Grumpy row 120. There were some monorail problems and we had to take the Resort one so that took some extra time.

8:30pm – I was walking up Main Street. I got on line for Pirates of the Caribbean with a 20 minute wait. I chatted with a nice family on line from Ohio. We shared a row in the boat.

8:55pm - I made my way through Frontierland and found some room near Hall of Presidents to watch the 9pm Spectro Magic Parade. It was crowded but not as bad as Main Street.

Since the parade starts on Main Street it took a while to get to us.

9:45pm – I made my way into FantasyLand. I watched Wishes from FantasyLand behind the castle. It’s not as good as seeing it from the front of the Castle.

I just missed a showing of Mickey’s Philharmagic so waited a bit for the next showing.

I went on Peter Pan with a 20 minutes wait.

10:57pm – I ran onto Small World and had the whole boat to myself.

On the way out, I got stuck waiting for the parade to pass. It was much less crowded now than the earlier parade so I sat down with a perfect view and watched the parade again.

I stopped in the bakery and bought the banana bread pudding.

I exited the park and didn’t have to wait long for the monorail. However, I did wait a bit for the tram. I was back in the timeshare by 12:45am.

Sunday 10/16/05
6:30am – I called Paul to wake him, then went back to sleep. Since I’m attending Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party tonight, I didn’t want to run around too much this morning/early afternoon.

I drove to Walmart to see if I could find a Halloween type Tshirt for tonight. We don’t have a Walmart near my home so it was fun to go to this mega store and look around. They sell everything in there. I have my M&M costume with me, but it’s pretty hot out so if I can find a Halloween Tshirt I may wear that instead. No luck in Walmart. I went to Publix and picked up syrup for Kim (there is a special syrup that you can only find in Publix in Florida that she likes).

12:30pm – I was back at Vistana. I changed into my bathing suit and went to the Cascades pool. I swam and read my book for a while.

2:45pm – I was back in my villa to shower and get ready to head to Magic Kingdom for Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party. I had lunch in the villa – scrambled eggs and an English muffin.

4pm – I arrived at Magic Kingdom. I brought my M&M costume folded up in a plastic Disney bag. It was too hot to wear. I’ll put it on closer to party time. I parked in Dopey 103 at the back end of the row and was told I could walk right over. I think the tram is easier since it drops you right in front.

I went on Stitch first with no wait.

Carousel of Progress was my next stop – also no wait. I was happy it was open.

I waited 20 minutes for Astro Orbiter. This is the first time I’ve ridden this.

Buzz Lightyear – also went right on with no wait.

TTA was next and I was the only one in the car.

I’m assuming the park is empty because if you weren’t going to MNSSHP you probably would just head to another park today.

6:15pm – The park closed at 6pm for non MNSSHP goers. I headed to Adventureland to look for the Tiki Tree to see if other Dis’ers were there. Unfortunately I didn’t see anyone. They already had some Trick or Treat Stations open so I went through and got some candy.

I stopped for a Dole Float $4 since 6pm-7pm is when the Magic Kingdom prepares for the party. Some couple started talking to me complaining that the park is closing and they didn’t know – no one told him, etc. I told him that the dates/times for the party are posted all over. There is even a big sign in front of the Magic Kingdom that they close at 6 today. I also told him he could still buy MNSSHP tickets. Some people are so unprepared. I think he was upset that I didn’t sympathize with him.

I put on my M&M costume after eating the Dole Float and wandered through a few more Trick or Treat stations.

6:40pm – I lined up at the Hall of President’s for my complimentary photo. Some people have really elaborate costumes. There are a lot of Jack Sparrow’s from Pirates of the Caribbean. It’s very hot out especially wearing the M&M.

7pm – the line started moving and was pretty quick.

I went into FantasyLand and joined the line to have my picture taken with Pooh dressed as a bumblebee and Tigger dressed as a skeleton. I was two people away from the front of the line when they left and were replaced with Piglet as a flower and Eeyore as a mummy so I had a picture taken with them instead.

I went into Toontown Fair and had my picture taken with Goofy. I went into Mickey’s house for a picture with Farmer Mickey. While in Toontown Fair a kid came up to me and asked me to sign his autograph book so I signed it “M&M”.

8pm – I watched the “Boo to You” Parade from the circle in front of the castle. It started in FrontierLand so didn’t get to where I was until about 8;15pm. It was a very cute parade. The song sticks in your head.

I headed back to FantasyLand to try to get the Pooh and Tigger picture. Tigger was there but no Pooh. I had the picture taken with Tigger. There were very long lines for the rides in FantasyLand.

It was very hot out so I took off my M&M costume and put it back in the plastic bag.

The Haunted Mansion surprisingly only had a 10 minute wait so I went on that.

9:15pm I watched Hallow Wishes from the front of the castle. That was a great fireworks show.

I went to Cosmic Rays for dinner – a veggie burger and fries $6.70. It was pretty good and I chatted with Paul while eating. I also left a message with Lilly to check on the plans for tomorrow.

There are not as many decorations as I expected. Main Street is lit up in different colors – orange and purple with silhouettes of bats and witches. I didn’t care for the MNSSHP Tshirt that they were selling so didn’t buy one.

I headed back into FantasyLand and the waits are shorter now.

I rode Winnie the Pooh with a 15 minute wait. Then I rode Snow White with a 5 minute wait.

Pooh finally came out for pictures; unfortunately not in his costume. Tigger was still in costume. I took a picture with the two of them.

I rode Peter Pan with a 10 minute wait.

11:40pm – I stopped in Exposition Hall to see the special MNSSHP pins. It wasn’t a big deal and they were out of the cute ones that I liked. Meanwhile, there was a huge line of people waiting to purchase the pins.

I looked at the MNSSHP T Shirt again. They didn’t have my size and I didn’t like it that much anyway so stuck with my original thought of not getting one.

I headed out of the park.

I took the monorail, then the tram to the car.

12:20am – I was back at Vistana. When I first walked up to the door, I got a little nervous because the window shade in the kitchen was open (I know I left it closed). I went in and the lights were different than I left them too. After some wandering I realized that the maid came today instead of tomorrow when she was scheduled to come.

Monday 10/17/05
5:15am – I woke up to call Paul to wake him then want back to sleep

7:30am – I woke up, showered, dressed and had breakfast –cereal and an English muffin.

8:30am – The phone rang. I t was Vistana Guest Services reminding me about the welcome package and trying to get me to sign up for a presentation.

Two minutes later the phone rings again. It’s a different person from Vistana Guest Services telling me the same thing about the Welcome package and to sign up for the presentation.

9:15am – Paul called so we chatted a bit. I called Lilly and left a voice mail.

9:45am – Lilly called. They just woke up but would be ready to go in about an hour and would call me then.

10:45am – I stopped at Vistana Guest services to get the welcome pack. I asked if I can go to the owner presentation without Paul and they said No – they need both of us to go. They don’t know he’s not here with me this trip. I don’t like them knowing I’m in the room myself. I even bring Paul’s travel toothbrush and put that out too so it looks like there are two of us in the room.

12pm - I headed to Magic Kingdom and parked in Happy. Lilly called while I was on the tram – they were just leaving and would call when they get to the Magic Kingdom.

I had a problem then – I realized I forgot to put on deodorant before leaving. This is surprising since I’m a fanatic about it. Either I can go back to Vistana or see if they sell any in the Magic Kingdom.

My first stop was the store right on the left side of Main Street – maybe the Emporium. I walked around and didn’t see any. I asked the woman at the counter and they have all sorts of toiletries in the closet behind them. It’s definitely overpriced, but what are you going to do. I bought a travel size lady speed stick solid for $2.65 + tax. I went into the ladies room and put some on. AAAHHH I felt better already. I’ll keep this in my bag in case I have any further mishaps like this.

I got a fast pass for the Jungle Cruise which was good from 1:15-2:15; there was a 50 minute standby wait.

The Tiki Room didn’t have much of a wait, but it was full – that’s surprising.

I walked through the Swiss Family Treehouse. This was slow going as it was crowded. Lilly called while I was walking through. They are on Main Street and headed to FantasyLand. They’ll call again when they get there. Lilly called again as I exited so I met her near the carousel. Pete and Kirsten were riding.

FantasyLand is packed; it’s wall to wall people. We assumed since Magic Kingdom closed at 6pm yesterday a lot more people are here today.

Mickey’s Philharmagic was next – at least it’s cool in here since it’s so hot out. This was Pete and Lilly’s fist time seeing this. Everyone liked it.

1:20pm – We got on line for Small World (posted 25 minute wait). I’m not used to waiting for this attraction – it’s usually a walk on. Pete went to get us all fast passes for Peter Pan since that had a 60 minute standby wait. The fast passes were good from 4:45-5:45. We all enjoyed Small World.

Winnie the Pooh had a 30 minute wait posted but we got in line anyway. Peter took Kirsten across the way to Pooh’s playground while Lilly and I stayed in line.

After Pooh Peter and Kirsten went on the Teacups while Lilly and I waited for them.

When they got off Kirsten was leaning over one of the bars and next thing you know she leaned too far and toppled over with her head hitting the ground and her feet in the air. She was hysterical. There was no blood, but a bump on her head.

We headed to the First Aid Station and they took us right away. The nurse was so nice. They gave Pete and Lilly a list of things to watch out for. She looked Kirsten over, asked a bunch of questions, and tried to look at her pupils. She offered Motrin or Tylenol but Pete and Lilly didn’t want to give her any.

Next was the Baby care station for them to change Kirsten’s diaper.

These were two new places I’ve never been (First Aid and Baby Care).

3:30pm – We were all hungry and ready for lunch. We headed back to FantasyLand – going through Adventure Land and Liberty Square. We went to Pinocchio’s Village Haus. I had a cheese pizza. Pete had chicken fingers and fries. Lilly had the Italian hero. The line to order food moved very slowly. It took about 20 minutes to get our food. Kirsten napped in her stroller while we ate. Then she woke up and wanted French Fries.

4:45pm – Time for our fast pass on Peter Pan so we rode.

I decided I should head over to MGM since I wanted to see Fantasmic tonight. So I headed off

Tomorrow Peter and Lilly are planning to just hang out at their timeshare. I may meet them for dinner.

Even though it was already 5:15 I wanted to see if I could still use my Jungle Cruise fastpass. They let me ride. The skipper was really funny – she adlibbed a lot of it.

I headed out of Magic Kingdom and drove to MGM. Somehow I missed it and had to turn around when I got to Downtown Disney. Finally I arrived and parked in a pretty good spot in the Stage section. I jumped on the tram and was in MGM by 6:30pm.

Tower of Terror had a 30 minute wait posted but I thought I’d see how bad the line was. There was none. We all just walked right into the library. When you got out – that’s where the line was – waiting for the elevators. They needed a single rider so I went ahead of a few people and had the first row. This is always a fun ride.

7:05pm – I headed into the Fantasmic Theater for the 7:30 show. The CM sent me down the middle aisle and said I should be able to find a space. I did – about 4 rows back – dead center on the end of the row – great seat.

7:30pm – Fantasmic started. It was very good. It’s a different perspective from the center section. I got sprayed by the water a bit.

8pm – Fantasmic ended and I quickly bolted out of the theater. I ran up the stairs and beat many out of the theater. I jumped on the tram and was in the car by approximately 8:20pm.

I drove to PF Changs at Mall of Millenia. I ordered Garlic Noodles and vegetable dumplings to go at about 8:45pm. I wandered around the mall while waiting.

9pm – I was back in the car on my way back to Vistana.

9:15pm – I’m back and ready to eat. I forgot to tell them not spicy on the Garlic Noodles so I couldn’t eat them. I tried washing ½ of them in the colander then mixing it with the others, but that didn’t work either.

I tried calling Paul but he may already be sleeping or not home from work yet.

I went in the Jacuzzi, watched TV, and then went to bed.

Tuesday 10/18/05
5:30am – I called Paul to wake him then went back to bed. Pete and Lilly wanted a “rest” day so I’m on my own today.

10:40am – I arrived at Animal Kingdom. I went to Kilimanjaro safari. There was already a 60 minute wait so I got a fast pass. This was a first for me – there was a line just to get the fast pass. The fast pass was good from 11:50-12:50.

I went to Camp Minnie Mickey and had my picture taken with safari Mickey.

11:40am – I watched the Lion King Show. It was a full auditorium. An odd thing I noticed is that they made the announcement in Spanish first then English, instead of the other way around.

After the show I had my picture taken with safari Goofy.

I headed back to Africa to go on the safari with my fast pass. There was a line for those of us with fast pass and I waited about 20 minutes. I chatted with a nice family from Canada while waiting.

Animal Kingdom is very hot and crowded. Once on, the safari was very good. The guide seemed a little tired since she didn’t point out the animals as enthusiastically as other guides have.

I went to Tough to be a Bug next and waited about 20 minutes to go in.

2pm – I decided to head out of animal Kingdom and go to MGM. I headed to the Backlot Express for lunch – a grilled vegetable sandwich $7.45. I got a fast pass for the Little Mermaid that was good from 4:10-4:20.

3:25pm – I saw Who Wants to Be a Millionaire. I made it to the top 10 board but not to the hot seat.

It was a few minutes before 4pm and I asked the cast member how long the Animation show is that starts at 4. He said the first part is 15 minutes and the rest is self guided. I was trying to determine if I would have time to make my fast pass at the Little Mermaid. He suggested that would be cutting it close and I should do the Mermaid first.

4:10pm – I was let into the Mermaid holding room with my fast pass. We were there until 4:30 before we went into the theater. I sat in the 2nd row.

After the Little Mermaid I went back to Animation. I had to wait until the 5pm show. The show is very cute. I skipped the exhibits since I’ve already seen them and was out by 5:15pm. I should have done this at 4pm before the Mermaid show.

I had my picture taken with Sorcerer Mickey, then Donald Duck.

I stopped at Min & Bill’s dockside and got an apple cinnamon pretzel $4.04. It sounds better than it tasted. It wasn’t very good. I chatted with Paul, picked at my pretzel, and then threw most of it out.

The Great Movie ride only had a 10 minute wait so I did that.

6:45pm – I headed out of MGM. I left a message for Pete and Lilly since we had tentative plans to meet for dinner.

7:15pm – I stopped at Walmart for grapes, disposable cameras, moisturizer, and more soda for a total of $17.51. The reason I came to Walmart for these items is that Pete and Lilly bought their grapes at Walmart and they were really good. The grapes in Publix didn’t look good. Pete called while I was in Walmart – they woke up at 11am and were planning to just stay in. I decided against Sea World tomorrow (where they are planning to go) so we’ll try to meet up for dinner tomorrow.

7:45pm – I dropped my purchases back at Vistana putting the grapes in the refrigerator then headed to Epcot.

I went on Spaceship Earth. I walked around World Showcase. I stopped in America at the Food and Wine Festival booth. I tried the Lobster corn Chowder $2.50 and the Crab Cake $3. I didn’t like either one and threw them out. I have been trying to eat things I used to like before I was a vegetarian but it doesn’t seem to be working – I’m not enjoying them anymore. I continued my loop around the World Showcase.

9pm – I watched Illuminations from the entrance to World Showcase, near the walkway to Future World. After Illuminations I walked quickly to the car and drove back to Vistana. I was back by 9:30pm.

I did some laundry, made some frozen pizza, and chatted with Paul. I was able to watch Nip/Tuck at 10pm. I don’t normally watch much TV, but this is one of the few shows I like.

Wednesday 10/19/05
5:15am – I woke up to call Paul then went back to sleep until about 8:30am. I showered and got dressed. Then I enjoyed my breakfast (English muffin and grapes) on the patio while writing some trip report notes.

10:30am – I went to Epcot. My first stop was the Land. There was already a 50 minutes wait for Soarin so I got a fast pass good from 1:05 – 2:05.

11am- I got in line for Living with the Land which had a 30 minute wait posted. It was pretty accurate and I boarded the boat about 30 minutes later. I was off at 11:45 and headed over to the Odyssey and got in line for the 12:30 culinary demonstration. I brought my book with me today and read it while waiting in line. I also chatted with two nice couples while in line.

12:30pm – Chef Yaroslav Strohyj from the Concourse Steakhouse at Disney’s Contemporary Resort did his culinary demonstration. I sat with the two nice couples.

He prepared and served us samples of “Potato Gnocchi and Shrimp in basil Parmesan butter with toasted pine nuts and tomatoes.” I was disappointed in this presentation after seeing Alan Wong’s on Friday. This one was only ½ hour long. He showed us the one dish, we each got a sample and that was it. The sample we received was very good – 4 gnocchi’s and 1 nice sized shrimp (I ate the gnocchi’s and skipped the shrimp).

I headed back over to the Land to ride Soarin with my fast pass. I got another fast pass for later that isn’t good until 5:45-6:45. I didn’t think I would still be in Epcot at that point, but picked it up anyway. Even with the fast pass the wait was about 15 minutes.

I was planning to go back to Vistana to swim for a bit but it was cloudy out so I stayed at Epcot instead.

1:30pm – I went to the Festival Center to get in line for the 2pm wine seminar. I was close to the end of the line of those that made it in – only 3 more people after me were admitted.

2pm – The wine seminar was hosted by Masi, Veneto, Italy. It didn’t start until 2:15pm. This seminar was ½ hour. We sampled 6 different wines

Whites:
1 - 100% Pinot Grigio
2 - 100% Verduzzo
3 - Masianco (a mix of Pinot Grigio and Verduzzo)

Reds:
4 - Campofiorin “Ripasso”
5 - Costasera “Amarone”
6 - Barolo de Campo Fiorin

I still don’t like wine

I headed back to the Odyssey for the next culinary demonstration and read my book while waiting.

3:15pm – Chef Wade Camerer from Cinderella’s Royal Table at the Magic Kingdom gave his presentation. I ended up sitting at the table with the chef’s partner and their family. He prepared and served us a sample of “Duck confit with white bean cassoulet and micro greens.” Similar to the earlier presentation, this was ½ hour and we received our sample. The chef passed around dry cannellini beans for us to see/feel their texture and andouie sausage to smell (neither of these were for eating). Unfortunately for me, this whole dish was meat, duck, and sausage so I didn’t eat it. Everyone else seemed to enjoy it.

I was pretty hungry so I munched on some of the grapes I brought with me in a Ziploc. I didn’t want to eat too much since I’m supposed to meet Pete and Lilly for dinner later.

I wandered into World Showcase and got a rice cream for $2.50 in Norway. This was very good and I enjoyed it.

Back over to Future World and into Ellen’s Energy Adventure. I sat on one of the benches on the side in the pre-show area since I was there before it started. The pre-show started at 4:45 and the attraction ended around 5:30pm. The middle section front rows were packed. I stayed in the side section in the one of the middle rows and had the whole row to myself.

Since my Soarin fast pass was good at 5:45 I headed over there to ride again, waiting about 20 minutes.

I called Lilly around 6:30 to confirm our dinner plans. She said there were just going to eat in their timeshare rather than go out.

I drove over to the marketplace and went to Wolfgang Puck Express for dinner. I got the Margarita Pizza – normally $8.25 but with my annual pass 10% discount it was $7.42 + tax = $7.90. They give you a stand with a number on it and bring your food over when it’s ready. I had my coke with me so just got some ice. I read my book while I ate. I haven’t gotten the nerve yet to eat alone in a regular restaurant, but I can sit at a counter service type place.

After eating I went to World of Disney to look at the fleece jacket I saw the other day. I decided not to get it after all. I wandered around the store for a while looking for Mickey Mouse earrings but I didn’t find any I liked. The kitchen store didn’t have anything for me to buy either.

I stopped at Earl of Sandwich to finally try the Earl’s ice cream sandwich. It is vanilla ice cream between two biscuits (cookies) trimmed in chocolate chips $2.61. The last couple of trips to Disney, I’ve been planning to try this but haven’t gotten around to it. After enjoying my ice cream I headed back to Vistana. I walked over to the Springs Pool since it was relatively close to the Villa to see what it looks like.

I was in my villa by 8:15 pm. I called Paul who told me a hurricane is headed to Florida and I should check the weather channel and maybe try to fly home earlier on Friday.

I watched the World Poker Tour on TV, did some laundry, went in the Jacuzzi, and then went to bed.

Thursday 10/20/05
No alarm needed today – Paul had one of his workers opening for him so he can sleep a little later until about 8am.

I was up by 7am. I showered, got dressed and had breakfast (cereal and an English muffin). I called Paul at 8 to wake him.

I pulled out my suitcase and started getting stuff organized to pack later.

I stopped for gas $10 at the station right near Vistana.

I headed over to Universal Islands of Adventure around 10:30am. I missed the exit and had to turn around. I finally made it to huge lines at the parking booths. $9 later I was headed into the garage – to almost the very end of row 454 in the Spiderman Section.

The bag check here is a waste of time – the woman barely glanced in my bag.

Once in Islands of Adventure, I called Lilly to check when they are planning to head over. They are already on their way and will call me when they get into the park.

I went to Spiderman. There was a 30 minute wait posted and there is no single rider line. This is a great ride.

I headed into Suess Landing and called my friend Kim (from work). She told me that hurricane Wilma won’t hit Florida until Sunday night/ Monday morning so I don’t need to come home early.

I went on Cat in the Hat with a 5 minute wait.

Pete and Lilly called and were in the park. Lilly rented an ECV today. Pete took Kirsten on the CaroSuessel while I hung out with Lilly. All 4 of us then went on Cat in the Hat.

We went to see the 1pm showing of the Sinbad-Stunt Show.

We headed back into Suess Landing so Peter could take Kirsten on One Fish Two Fish. Lilly and I waited in Circus McGurkess (a fast food restaurant with air conditioning).

When Peter and Kirsten joined us we stayed and had lunch. I had a cheese pizza $7.02. They were so slow in there. Pete and Lilly had spaghetti and meatballs and a pepperoni pizza.

Peter wanted to ride Dueling Dragons so I waited with Lilly while he rode. It took longer than we expected.

It was really hot out today and feels like summer. They wanted to go see another Barney show at Universal Studios. I wanted to go swimming since it was so hot.

Around 4pm I left to go back to Vistana to swim. We planned to meet up later at Downtown Disney.

By 4:30 I was back at Vistana, changed into my bathing suit and drove over to the Cascades pool. I jumped right in and the water felt great; nice and refreshing, but not too cold.

I hung out at the pool until about 5:45 then came back to my villa to shower. Lilly called around 6:45 and they were on their way to the Marketplace so I drove over to meet them.

Parking was a nightmare. It was packed and many lots were blocked off. I ended up in lot H – which is near Planet Hollywood/Pleasure Island but not the lot near it – all the way across the lot, across the bus lane – basically adjacent to the road to drive to the Marketplace.

We met up by World of Disney and headed to the Lego store. I chatted with Paul for a few minutes

We went to dinner at Wolfgang Puck Express. It was a madhouse there too. We were lucky to get one of the inside tables. Lilly held the table while I went to order. Pete had taken Kirsten to the Merry Go Round.

I had the linguine with tomato, basil, and garlic $9.95. Lilly had the linguine with chicken Bolognese $9.95. Peter had the spinach/mushroom pizza $9.25. I had soda and they shared a soda (free refills). The total was $33.05; after my 10% annual pass discount it was $31.65. Pete gave me $22 for their share so my dinner cost was $9.65. The food was good. We all enjoyed it.

We went into World of Disney next. Pete and Lilly bought Kirsten a Minnie Mouse headband.

We headed back towards the parking lots and said our goodbyes since we’re all heading home tomorrow. They were parked in a good spot so once we split I made the long trek back to my car.

I drove back to Vistana and was back in the villa by about 10:15

I did some more packing, some laundry, went in the Jacuzzi, and then went to bed.

Friday 10/21/05
I got up to wake Paul then couldn’t go back to sleep.

I showered, dressed, finished packing and had breakfast (an English muffin). I threw the garbage out. I checked out by 10am. Then I drove around Vistana to look around the other sections. I called the office to check in and chatted with them for over an hour.

Hurricane Wilma isn’t scheduled to hit Florida until Sunday so there is no reason to change my flight.

I called Paul and we chatted for a bit.

I headed to the Magic Kingdom – taking the ferry from the TTC this time.

I took the Disney Railroad to Frontierland.

Big Thunder Mountain had a 20 minute wait, but was a fun ride.

Around 12:30 I went to the Hall of Presidents. It was very hot out and nice and cool in here.

I didn’t go on the Haunted Mansion since it had a 30 minute wait posted.

FantasyLand was very crowded.

Mickey’s Philharmagic had a 10 minute wait posted so I went in and watched. This is definitely my favorite 4D show at Disney.

I wanted through the Main Street shops and headed out since it was crowded and hot.

I stopped by gas at the Hess station by Magic Kingdom to fill up - $29.15. Then drove to the Marketplace.

I had lunch at Wolfgang Puck Express – Macaroni and Cheese $5.03 with my annual pass 10% discount. Normally it would have been $5.25 + tax. It was not very good. I was debating going to Old Key West and having lunch at Olivia’s but decided to go the cheaper route. I should have gone to Olivia’s.

I wandered through World of Disney again but didn’t see anything else I needed to buy.

I called Paul again from the pay phones in the back of World of Disney. I called my office using the 800# then had them transfer me.

Since I finished my book, I drove to Goodings in the crossroads and bought another one $7.99

I went back to the Marketplace – it was getting cloudy out. I stopped in Ghirardelli for a strawberry Shake $4.31 after 10% annual pass discount (normally $4.50 + tax). I was planning to get it to go, but it started pouring so I stayed and sat at the counter. It poured and poured. It was just about time for me to head to the airport. I put on my poncho for the first time this trip and ran over to Earl of Sandwich to get a Caprese to eat on the plane later for dinner $5.28.

I drove to the airport, dropped off the car, checked 2 bags of luggage (good thing I brought and empty bag) then went to the gate.

There was no plane yet which is not a good sign. The last 2 times flying home my plane was delayed.

The plane arrived and we got on and only took off about 15 minutes late. Still landed just about on time – approximately 10:20pm. My luggage was the 3rd one on the carousel to come out.

I called Avistar and they picked my up. I got my car $120.73 with AAA discount and drove home. I left Avistar a little after 11pm and was in my driveway by midnight.

FINAL THOUGHTS
This was a great trip. It was nice having other people to share parts of the trip with and being able to do my own thing other times. I would have been better if Paul could have been here too. I enjoyed the extra things that were going on during this time of year such as the Food & Wine Festival and Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party.
