In the Walt Disney World news, sponsored by Small World Vacations (http://www.wdwvacations.com), MousePlanet's preferred travel provider, all of the news came from this past Monday's Walt Disney World Park Update (http://www.mouseplanet.com/articles.php?art=wd070326mg), and links to the various information reported can be found there.

All of the Disneyland news came from this past Tuesday's Disneyland Park Update (http://www.mouseplanet.com/articles.php?art=dl070326xx), and links to the various information reported can be found there.

In The Walt Disney Company news, several stories have related links.

Now that word has leaked out about Carnegie Mellon University's Entertainment Technology Center working on Project Spaceship Earth for Siemens and Walt Disney Imagineering, the project's mini-web site has been taken offline and the link from the ETC's projects page (http://www.etc.cmu.edu/Global/projects/currentprojects.php) has been removed, leaving just the project logo.

Roy E. Disney's Shamrock Holdings (http://www.shamrock.com/) has invested $50 million in REAL D (http://www.reald.com/)'s Digital 3-D system. Meanwhile, Meet the Robinsons (http://disney.go.com/disneypictures/meettherobinsons/) opens this weekend, with some theaters showing it using REAL D's Digital 3-D technology.

This week's AP story about the possible release of Song of the South has even reached CNN (http://www.cnn.com/2007/SHOWBIZ/Movies/03/28/film.songofthesouth.ap/) now, even though MousePlanet readers knew the same facts on March 9 (http://www.mouseplanet.com/articles.php?art=bm070309mg). The rest of the opening cast has been announced for The Little Mermaid (http://disney.go.com/theatre/thelittlemermaid/index.html) musical that opens in Denver this July and hits Broadway in November.

Raven-Symone was awarded the North Star Award at this year's NAMIC Awards (http://www.namic.com/).

The Scotsman newspaper in Edinburgh, Scotland is raising a red flag (http://news.scotsman.com/uk.cfm?id=462052007) on Disney Partyfizz, calling the fizzy apple juice drink that's sold to look like champagne a gateway to alcholism. What do you think? Let us know! (http://www.mouseplanet.com/email.php?type=w&w=pc)

Meanwhile, a gang of elusive thieves was finally caught after they gave some purloined ticket to Disney on Ice: Princess Wishes (http://disneyonice.disney.go.com/disneyonice/princesswish.jsp) to friends.

MouseStation Episode 12
Run time - 1:40:01

Our short discussion about Mark and his wife taking his son to a Jonas Brothers concert at a nearby mall was preceded by a short clip from the opening of the Jonas Brothers' song "Year 3000". You can buy their "It's About Time" CD here (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B000G7PNLI/disneinforguided/). You can also check out their MySpace page (http://www.myspace.com/jonasbrothers) and look at the growing number of YouTube video (http://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=jonas+brothers+march+24&search=Search) of the concert.

Our Tip of the Week again comes from Aaron DelPrince of Fishers, Indiana, who recommends getting a multi-day stroller rental on the first day of your trip if you're going to be renting a stroller for multiple days, as you get a discount and you also get to skip the line to pay for strollers for the rest of your trip. Note that this also works for wheelchair rentals, though ECV rentals are not available for multi-day rentals.

In our featured topic, Mike and Mark discussed changes at the Disney-MGM Studios since the park opened in 1989.

While discussing changes at the Animation Tour, Mark recommended Tony West and Dan Lund's Dream On Silly Dreamer (http://www.dreamonsillydreamer.com) as a great description of what happened to Walt Disney Feature Animation at that time. Mark reviewed the movie (http://www.mouseplanet.com/screenreviews/sr050224mg.htm) after seeing it in Minneapolis, and Alex Stroup reviewed the DVD (http://www.mouseplanet.com/articles.php?art=ht060317as) when it was released.

After the podcast was recorded, Mike and Mark realized that, after talking about the park for about 40 minutes, they still forgot to mention such things as the destruction of the World's Largest Hidden Mickey, the installation of the dreaded Big Assed Hat, the Pocahontas and Hunchback shows in the old theater that's now behind the San Francisco Street flat, the early shows at the original Theater of the Stars like Dick Tracy Diamond Double Cross, and all of the parades that have run at the Studios over the years. Maybe we'll need to do a supplemental show somewhere down the line.

This week's Featured Attraction is the Twilight Zone Tower of Terror at both Disneyland (http://www.mouseplanet.com/guide.php?pg=ABC104) and Walt Disney World (http://www.mouseplanet.com/guide.php?pg=BEE102).

This week's Review system spotlight focuses on River Belle Terrace (http://www.mouseplanet.com/cgi/reviews/do/display.cgi?product-sku=dlriverbelleterrace) at Disneyland Park. You can also find it in our Park Guide (http://www.mouseplanet.com/guide.php?pg=AAD406).

This week's Magical Moment came from Pal Jason, who called in from the Magic Kingdom to tell us about a helpful parking lot hostess.

You can get your MousePlanet (or MouseStation) swag from the new MousePlanet CafePress store (http://www.cafepress.com/mouseplanet).

Mark is once again participating in the March of Dimes WalkAmerica event. Please check out his pledge page (http://www.walkamerica.org/disneydad) for more information, or to donate. If you'd rather donate to other causes supported by folks in the Disney Internet community, Deb Wills (AllEarsNet) is raising money to fight breast cancer (http://info.avonfoundation.org/site/TR?px=1038633&pg=personal&fr_id=1270) and Lou Mongello (Disney World Trivia) is raising money for the Starlight Starbright Foundation (http://www.disneyworldtrivia.com/dreamteam.php) to send terminally-ill children to Walt Disney World.

Great show!

I came to comment, but after reading the message at the start of the thread:

"After the podcast was recorded, Mike and Mark realized that, after talking about the park for about 40 minutes, they still forgot to mention such things as ... the installation of the dreaded Big Assed Hat..."

There's not much more I can add.
But here's one:

When the park was still new, and if you got there when the park first opened, cast members, posing as autograph hounds, would seek out the autographs of guests just entering the park. I don't believe that is done anymore. OTOH, I don't recall the street performers.

The park has moved away from being a participatory experience and has instead become a collection of rides and shows. In general, the park has improved, but I really miss some of the participation attractions.

Hey guys! This is Jen from NJ (I suggested your show topic!) and I wanted to say that I'm almost 24 and I totally remember the Backlot Tour! I got to be one of those kids on the bee from Honey I Shrunk the Kids.

Do you remember the Who Framed Roger Rabbit stuff that was in the gift shop near the Backlot Tour? My dad made me take a picture next to the weasels cardboard cut outs every single trip we went on! It was kind of annoying lol.

And I remember when we were going through the catwalk where they were filming shows and they were taping, "Adventures in Wonderland". I was so excited because it was one of my favorite shows.

Also, Voyage for the Little Mermaid was not an attraction in MGM when it opened.

Oh, man. I meant to at least clean that one up before I posted the notes. Sorry to anyone that didn't appreciate the language.

Hi Jen! Thanks for the topic!

My favorite picture from that gift shop was me with my Mickey Mouse umbrella (with the ears that popped up) open, standing under the elephant in a net overhead, with that Bugs Bunny "YIPE!" look on my face. ;) I may have also taken a photo or two under the steamroller.

I didn't think that Mermaid was open that early, but I couldn't really remember for sure. That's what happens when you're rushing through the park.

I'm not offended. I was just noticing that the hat wasn't mentioned.

Yep. But since we try really hard to have a "clean" rating on the podcast, I try to have the show notes be similarly free of "iffy" words. Of course, the MP auto-censor didn't block it out....

Would you believe I read the word as "asset?"

AVP
Well, it is a "Big Asset". That's why they won't tear it down; it cost too much to put it up in the first place.
