My dh decided to go to Magic Mountain today....he was going mostly to re-vist the X coaster that he and my dd fell in love with only a month or so.

He reports, via cell phone in front of M.M. that the X Coaster has been closed for about 3 weeks due to stress fractures...and that the park is REALLY crowded! (sigh, I told him to call before they left and ask...oh well.)

Yes, it does. I won't be returning to SFMM until it re-opens. Without X, the lines for the other rides are huge. X functioned as a people sucker.

I suppose this is the risk a park can take when opening a prototype ride, a first year struggle to work out all the problems. It took Deja Vu awhile before it became fully functional, and it is now truly great. I wonder if SFMM would have been better served going with a different coaster for 02 like a flyer, or a floorless, or a new woodie. I read somewhere that X is over the 30 million mark in cost. I can't find any reliable verification on that figure, but if true, it make me wonder if they should have put that money into more reliable designs. Granted, they wouldn't have their one of a kind unique coaster, but they would have more operational rides for the busy summer season.

True, so true! :)

The perfect motto, "They have People Movers, we have X, the People Sucker." :D

I am trying to contact my friend who was the lead welder on the "X" ride when it was built. I will get some info from him on what is going on if I can.

I was checking the SFMM website and they don't even mention "X" anymore on the site. Same with their telephone info line.
