View Full Version : What kind of cross training does everyone do? RunninDisney 03-17-2007, 07:16 PM Other than riding a bike, I dont do anything but run. I also do pilates once a week. :) timl33 03-18-2007, 03:20 PM I'm a triathlete, so it's lots of swimming, biking, running. But playing sports helps. I play softball as well, go hiking on occasion. Hershey HockeyMom 03-19-2007, 11:46 AM Yoga!! I used to take a class at my local rec center, now I just do different dvds. It's great for core strength, balance and stretching out those tight muscles.... RunninDisney 03-27-2007, 09:06 AM I play soccer on a women's indoor league once a week. I only played indoor for a few years, but man that will wear you out. They're starting an adult indoor league here and I'm thinking about joining. I'm too out of soccer shape, so I can only imagine how bad I'll hurt. LoL. stan4d_steph 03-27-2007, 10:05 AM What posistion do you play? I usually play forward. I can also play keeper, but on my current team I only need to play when she misses a game. It's a 7 vs 7 arrangement on plastic grass, not turf, and there is out of bounds, so no bouncing off walls. What do you usually play? What's your indoor like? RunninDisney 03-27-2007, 11:40 AM I usually play forward. I can also play keeper, but on my current team I only need to play when she misses a game. You really don't have a sweeper in indoor so I play center defender. I'm not sure what its going to be like because they haven't gotten started yet, but 7 v 7 probably sounds right. Or 7 v 7 plus a keeper. It is turn and there is a wall. What is plastic grass like? I don't think I've ever seen indoor soccer without any walls. Have any pics? stan4d_steph 03-27-2007, 01:08 PM Have any pics?If you click on this link (http://www.afrimsports.com/soccershop.html), then click on the "Take 360 tour" link it will open a window with views of the fields we play on. :) This is the kind of "grass" we use (http://www.fieldturf.com/product/designConstruction.cfm). 3894 03-27-2007, 01:11 PM Not a runner but I do walk about 5 -7 miles a day. Ahh, very cool placd. They have field turf at the Liberty Bowl here in Memphis. I've been on it. VERY COOL. Wish we had a place like that here. Do you wear regular cleats on it? How does it feel when you fall on it or slide? Or do you not slide on it. I know there is no way I would slide on turf. stan4d_steph 03-27-2007, 01:34 PM Do you wear regular cleats on it? How does it feel when you fall on it or slide? Or do you not slide on it. I know there is no way I would slide on turf.I wear turf shoes that have short rubber cleats on them. Regular cleats would be too much. It doesn't really hurt too much when you fall, but you can still get a bit of turf burn. Nowhere nearly as bad as astroturf though. There's no sliding in my league, thank goodness. I don't need a broken leg! RunninDisney 03-27-2007, 01:42 PM I wear turf shoes that have short rubber cleats on them. There's no sliding in my league, thank goodness. I don't need a broken leg! The reason I quit playing is because I had a slight tear in my mcl. It doesn't require surgery, but it makes it hard to walk and doesn't really feel too good. I decided I had better hang my cleats up because I really can't afford to get badly injured. Then I took up running and have been hurting myself since. LoL. The indoor thing won't be as competative as the outdoor team I last played for, so I'm not worried about blowing out a knee. Seems like either a lot of time, or a really decent pace (or both). Bobcat 03-27-2007, 03:10 PM Hi everyone... I try to squeeze a bit of cross training in every now and then in the form of a spin class (time permitting) and rollerblading (recreationally and competitively in a roller hockey league) DisneylandForever 03-27-2007, 04:04 PM Go to the gym, play softball and boxing. I am 2 years removed from football, but that will soon change! 3894 03-28-2007, 09:30 AM How long does it take you to walk that distance?
