View Full Version : Best Airfare?
tonytone 06-21-2007, 10:28 AM Actually it was $49 out of detroit round trip. Same with the tickets we got for $99 in first class. It was round trip out of detroit. Which for us is still a 2 hour drive away but totally worth it.
$49 to Orlando--even if only one-way--is just a pipe dream for someone like myself who lives in the Sacramento area... :crying:

Maybe, but a good friend of mine got $89 each way from San Diego in December (on SWA thru DING!) :D
TamTab 06-21-2007, 12:07 PM Just need to keep checking for seat sales. That's when you get the best deals. We flew to L.A last October from Detroit for I believe $200 Canadian. And it also was a round trip. Just keep your eyes open for seat sales.
Pigsty333 07-06-2007, 07:01 AM Sidestep.com is a great site also.
Believe it or not, and there are those out there who are JetBlue fans, they are overrated. I have found their fares to be a lot higher than some.
Check out Spiritairlines.com I got flights there for $17, $34 and every so often they offer a 1 cent fare. No matter what - you still have to pay those taxes.
USA3000 is another airline that fliers from some small markets, so check it out.
And if you want to see the seating charts before you pick them, when you purchase your tickets - go to www.seatguru.com and see exactly where they are before you pick them upon purchase.
gingerbee1 07-06-2007, 10:53 AM um i was wondering, well first i live in georgia and we have searched like every airfare site i think even exist, well anywho we can't find a cheap ticket worth anything!!!!! so should we wait till like a week till our trip and go on the site and see if there are any really cheap tickets or do you know any sites that have them pretty cheap??????

I found roundtrip from LAX to Orlando for $241.
GusMan 07-06-2007, 12:29 PM Honestly, cheap airfares are becoming harder to come by. Sometimes Southwest has some good fares, but it depends on when you are going. At the same time, I would not depend on "last minute" super-saver fares as they go quickly if they even become available. Sure, people get lucky, but its not something that I would depend on.
My 2 cents - if you live in GA, you may be better off just driving. I know that is not always an option, but even with gas prices being on the high side, you might still come out ahead, maybe even way ahead, compared to flying. That is the main reason why we are driving from Chicago - it will still cost us 1/2 the price of flying.
If the car is an issue, even renting a car and driving might still be a more affordable option, depending on how many would be flying with you.
Can you tell us about your travel plans and your traveling party? That may also help us help you come up with ideas.
kelbelle09 07-06-2007, 01:43 PM I also agree with other posts, you may want to consider driving?
First, when is your trip planned? You can usually get better fares by booking in advance. I booked our fares through Delta in May for our late Aug WDW trip (from Tucson to MCO) for only $178! It may take some web surfing work. I also suggest trying Yahoo travel, its a good place to start to see what prices are offered. Even if the dates aren't avail there for your days of travel, it can help you narrow down what airline websites to visit.
dahunter1129 07-06-2007, 02:35 PM We, until our upcoming trip in September, swore by Air Tran, since we always got Philadelphia to MCO for $49.00 each way...but the customer service is horrible, they over book their flights so if you don't check in 24 hours ahead of time on line you aren't going to get a seat, and they CONSTANTLY change and/or cancel flights. They do fly out of Atlanta (the last change they made was from a non-stop to a layover in Atlanta) so you might want to check them out, but don't say I didn't warn you!
gingerbee1 07-06-2007, 04:37 PM Thank you so much for all the help. We will probably stick to the first plan which is to rent a car and drive. We wanted our daughter to have a chance to fly for the first time, but there are so many negative reviews about flights cancelled, delays, lost luggage, and horrible customer service. We'll just be thankful that we live so close to Florida and WDW.
Thanks Again:)!!! ;)

I found roundtrip from LAX to Orlando for $241.
what dates did you get those flights for?
wishiwasthere 07-06-2007, 06:27 PM I say if you don't have to fly don't. In the time it would take you to get to the airport, check-in, board the flight, fly to orlando, get off the flight, get your luggage, and rent a car you could be down in Disney in a fraction of the cost by car.
We drove from Jersey last year and it was so much cheaper than flying. Obviously a lot longer than flying in our case, but still it was cheaper.

skodousek 07-07-2007, 04:31 PM Expedia has great prices for non-international flights! :)
Mermaid 07-07-2007, 07:45 PM I say just keep checking and know what is a good fare and be ready to pounce. We got $159 ROUND TRIP on Delta from Phoenix. We just kept checking and checking. That was about 3 months before the trip.
ChipmunkStar 07-08-2007, 10:36 AM what dates did you get those flights for?
July 18th to the 25th. Just long enough to get a quick fix :) I think they were the last ones at that price, seeing as it's been back in the $300's ever since I got them.
THpoohbear 07-12-2007, 03:00 PM I got a Ding for a great fare from LAX to MCO last week, or the week before, but I wasn't ready to book. Do Ding fares usually only show up once or do they come back around? This is my first attempt at using DING, so I'm unfamilar with its patterns. Thanks!
THpoohbear 07-12-2007, 03:09 PM Just wanted to add that I don't know if I should try to wait for a Ding or book now with another airline. The best I can get right now with decent times is $350pp from LAX. My dates are bad, August 31 (Friday before Labor Day) and returning Sept. 9, a Sunday.
If I got another Ding it would certainly be cheaper than $350. Just thinking of airfare right now is making me cringe! :crying:
Drince88 07-12-2007, 03:20 PM Are you happy with the flight times with SW? Do they still have availability at a higher rate? If the answer to either is no - then a new Ding won't do you any good. They won't be adding flights and they won't Ding something that's already sold out.
If the answers are both yes, you can book at the higher rate, and IF a new Ding comes out, apply it to it (you'll likely end up with a credit if the new rate comes out, unless you're having to book a refundable rate right now).
cocoabeach 07-12-2007, 04:14 PM I've noticed that their automatic lowest deals kick in for Saturday, Tues or Wed. travel.
I just checked for Sept. 1 until Sept. 11 and the total was $205 (including the airport fee).
THpoohbear 07-12-2007, 04:38 PM Hi Drince - thanks for the help! That makes sense and I never put two and two together since I've not flown SW a whole lot before. I thought maybe Ding fares were on completely different flights.
Cocoa - you reminded me that the Ding fare I did get wasn't good for my return date (Sunday), so I was trying to play around with one way fares to see if it would make sense for me.
Our dates are pretty set, mainly because DH can take a 9 night vacation with only taking 3 days off of work! I think I'll just have to swallow the higher airfare and be glad that at least they are both direct flights. Thanks again. I feel a lot less crazed than earlier!
There's little pattern to Dings! from what I can tell. Except that usually they are for T, W and Saturday. But sometimes you can get a "regular" sale that may not be as good as a Ding but still saves you money nonetheless. And Drince is right-if it's already sold out they won't be offering a ding.
THpoohbear 07-13-2007, 12:00 AM Well, I bit the bullet and bought our tickets. The price is still making me cringe, but at least it's official I'm going to WDW! Actually, I love the flight times and that both flights are direct (it's already long flying coast to coast). Considering I'm flying on Fri & Sun, I don't think a Ding was going to help me all that much. Thanks again for the feedback and help!
Wendi 07-13-2007, 12:20 PM I almost never see the same deals come up more than once on Ding! I have gotten some great deals, but they are usually not a huge price difference from the lowest price flights anyway... I still like to save a few bucks though.
Poolslide 07-13-2007, 12:48 PM Thepoohbear: I also fly out of LAX. I just book Delta and/or United because they go direct and its easier on my nerves. I'd hate to get stuck somewhere or miss a connecting flight. You won't regret the convenience.
