Hey everyone!
10 days to go! We are so excited!
Ok - I have to change my ringtone to a disney song! What site do you download from? Seems several are "subscription" sites.. I just want to download one. The Disney site does not offer downloads for Nextel :(
Suggestions?

I just made a ton yesterday for free. Find the Audacity sound editor online and the LAME mp3 encryption plugin (both free), and go nuts. Chop the soundbite to between 15-30 seconds and under 300 kb.
I have Verizon, but Im sure a quick google search will tell you how to format it and apply it to your Nextel phone.

I guess the big question is... how do you get it to the phone?

Try Phonezoo.com (http://www.phonezoo.com/Welcome.do). Upload your own sound files, edit down to a ringtone and have it sent to your phone via SMS.

Well, for Verizon, you export it to mp3 (from Audacity), then change the extension to .mid and email it to (yourphonenumber)@vzpix.com.
Comes thru as a pix message, it'll automatically play once you open it, choose 'options' and then 'save as ringtone'
Wont work on all VCast phones, but it will on most of them.

Figured I'd lay it all out
Audacity is here: http://audacity.sourceforge.net/download/windows
The LAME encoder is here: http://www.webhostxpress.net/%7Emitiok/lame-3.96.1.zip
Once downloaded, launch Audacity, then extract the LAME to your 'my documents' folder. and you'll never have to worry about that one again - its a one time thing. The Audacity cant save items as an mp3 without it, the first time you try to save it will ask you for the LAME encryption drivers. Point it to wherever you extracted the LAME zip to. Once all that is done, you can launch Audacity and start working.
I drag the song to my desktop, open Audacity and choose File and Open, and select the song you want to have as a ringer (you have to have the song on your computer already)
Use the selection tool (top left corner, looks like a capital "I") to select the portion of the song you want, orput the cursor where you want the portion to end and go to Edit, Select, and choose one of the options. Or, you can click and drag to highlight the parts of the song you dont want, once its highlighted, click on the scissors icon to cust it out.
Once you get the clip to sound how you like, go to File and Export Selection As MP3. I save it to my desktop. (I often increase the volume of these ringtones. Find the slider next to the small speaker emblem at the top left and move it to the right. I set them to 6 or 7, depending upon the original audio quality.)
Change the file extension from .mp3 to .mid. Remember to keep the file size to less than 350kb (about a 15-20 second clip)
I then open my email program, attach the file and send it to your phones email address (yourphone#@vzpix.com)
When it arrives to your phone, open it and it will begin playing. Choose Options (right softkey) and save it.
Now go drive your families nuts!

Also, and this may seem quite blonde but I'm guilty of it myself, don't forget your area code when you email the clip to yourself  You'll still get charged for the text message if you send it without the area code.
