The DIsney hotel are sold out and the official hotel seems to be in the $300 range for august :-( :-( :-(
I will be in Tokyo at 1 hour from the park but i would love to get a hotel nearer.

Good luck! I'm afraid that nice hotels in Japan do run into the several hundred dollar range. Are you aware that there are actually two Disney hotels at the resort (Disneyland Hotel and Hotel MiraCosta)? Of course those hotels are generally even more expensive than the official Disney resort hotels run by Sheraton, Hilton, etc. They also have "good neighbor" hotels in the downtown Tokyo area with complimentary shuttle service, but as you pointed out those are pretty far away and still pricey. As I said at the start, good luck!
Hi Iceman.
Just wanted to let you know that I stayed at the Shin Urayasu Oriental Hotel last October in Tokyo and it was relatively cheap.
The room was about $AUS200 per night which is about $US100.
The hotel was IMMACULATE and the staff there were BEYOND helpful and courteous to us gaijin.
The hotel was DIRECTLY across the road from the JR train station. From there, we were one stop(about three minutes)from Maihama Station and the TDR.
Also included in the price was a MASSIVE breakfast buffet which was SO big you have to see it to believe it.
We were usually SO full that we did not have to eat until dinner, later in the evening(which cut costs down a bit too).
Hope this helps but please be aware-I tried calling the Oriental for reservations in June and they were COMPLETELY booked for weeks either way.

Brad, that sounds like a great deal! I agree that customer service in Japan blows away what even the finest hotels offer in the States. And your plan to fill up at the immense breakfast buffet sure was a smart one! And a final point, boy do I love the JR system...
Yeah-I agree!!!!!
The great thing was, the lobby was on the first floor and there was a bridge DIRECTLY outside it going across the road to the train station.
Thus you did not even have to cross the street.
Some people scoff at staying off property(I call them Disney snobs), but I ws wrapping up a seven week theme park tour and thus my funds were getting low.
I have NEVER understood this "MUST STAY ON PROPERTY OR TRIP IS RUINED" mentality.
I would MUCH RATHER(and DID!!!)stay in a HoJo(Orlando)or Super 8(Anaheim)and ACTUALLY get to see the parks......than be in the Grand Floridian for one night and see relatively nothing.
I think that if you are in your hotel all day anyway then you are,
1). Wasting your valuable time
and
2). Are at the wrong place
Go to Club Med for that kind of thing.
Sorry about the rant but what I am trying to say is that hotels in Tokyo are SOOOO expensive yet we found a REAL gem of a place for what was(by Japanese standards)an absolute steal!!!!
And yes-their standards for service would make the "service culture"(yeah......right!!!!)U.S. cringe with embarrassment.

While I am generally a Disney snob (by Brad's standards, especially ;) ) who prefers to stay on-site, I have to agree that it doesn't make as much sense in Tokyo. I've now stayed at the Sheraton Grande and the Hilton, and they were both overpriced "regular" hotels whose only advantage was their proximity to the parks. Next time I'm either going to fork out the bucks for the MiraCosta (which I must point out looked FANTASTIC) or find a great bargain like Brad and ride the train.
Oh trust me Iceman.....the MiraCosta is GONNA happen for me.......ONE of these days!!!!!
As to the train-for me it was part of the fun of being in Japan.
Of feeling like a local and riding along with them.
I LOVED IT!!!!!!!!!!!

The JR system is so clean, efficient, safe, and complete that it was truly a pleasure to ride. That's not something I think I can say about ANY American city's mass transit! Of course the Shinkansen (bullet trains) were the nicest, but even the little local runs like from Tokyo Station to Maihama were enjoyable. I'm getting closer to penning my trip report, and I'm definitely going to recommend that people see and experience more of Japan than just Disney!
