Intrigue Swirls Around Disney: Pittman Eyed if Eisener Exits (http://www.drudgereport.com/matteb.htm) - Drudge Report, 6/6/02

QuikQuote: Pittman, who has theme park experience [having run TIMEWARNERS's SIX FLAGS, before getting the ax from Gerry Levin], has become the center of a behind-the-scenes media scramble.

Editor's Note: The Dridge Report tends to move files and stories frequently. This link may become invalid at any time.

Tony-
I have never heard of "The Drudge Report". Are they a credible news source for MP? What are the MP requirements for reliable news sources versus gossip sites?

Sorry, I thought everybody read Drudge.

GC, Matt Drudge is the original muckracker of the 21st century. Most of the stuff he posts are rumors, but as much as the regular media like to dis him and pretend he's no good, he sometimes gets a slam-dunk in predicting, or popping shocking news that turns out to be true. [and while they are busily dissing him, they are busily checking his Web site for information. Bah, hypocrites -- at least the wacky talk radio hosts aren't as snobby as the TV talking heads about it.]

Drudge got his start several years ago when he started posting celebrity gossip in the Usenet newsgroup alt.showbiz.gossip (anybody remember his posts? I do).

His biggest break came when he singlehandedly broke the story about Monica Lewinsky having her affair with Bill Clinton. Other reporters were sniffing around, but their stories got the kibbosh from editors because of a lack of evidence (or people who would go on record).

I think he also broke the big story about Monica Lewinsky's famous blue dress that finally did Clinton in.

Drudge posts stuff other people won't because they're afraid to soil their reputation. Drudge doesn't care. He's not a real journalist, nor does he have the ethics of one.

As for whether MousePlanet should consider Drudge a valid source... well, let's just say that while he may not be considered mainstream, it would be awfully foolish to ignore him completely. The rest of the media (and Washington) know it. He gets things right too often to discount. Have you LOOKED at his hit counts? He gets millions and millions of hits PER DAY. And many of those come from the powerful, the influential, and the media.
