I have a soon-to-be 44" tall & 6-year old son who wants to try Mission: Space when we visit WDW in June.
I personally think that just barely meeting the height requirement does not mean he would be ready for this ride. But, I heard there is a non-spinning version of the ride and it might be the way to go.
Has anyone ride Mission: Space w/non-spinning?
How did you like it?
Would you reccomand to young children?
Thanks for your opinion!

I have ridden both the spinning and non-spinning versions of Mission Space. I think he would enjoy the non-spinning version. He would still get the thrill of riding it without the amount of centrifugal force caused by the spinning version. I have seen many children ride both, but I didn't notice any child being disappointed with the non-spinning version when I rode it. Hope this helps.

My daughter was 6 when we went to Disney during the Thanksgiving holidays. She was 45". While I can't ride Mission Space (claustrophic), she loved it(the non spinning version)!! She rode it with my brother (her uncle) and had a blast.
I don't think she can handle the spinning side yet, but mabye when she is bigger she will.
The non spinning version, my brother said, is very tame.
I hope you have fun on your upcoming trip.

You know your kid best. Does he suffer from motion sickness or does he have any medical conditions? Would another adult be able to ride with him should you (he) opt for the spinning version? The ultimate decision is yours. Why not try the non spinning first? IF he is eager to try the spinning version explain what could happen? Does he want to feel dizzy and sick for the rest of the day? The centifuge is quite intense and its important that you keep facing forwards - could you guarantee he could do that?

Maybe it's best to stick with the non-spinning version until he's a bit older? Best to be safe than be sorry and spend the rest of the day in the hotel room!

My child first rode Mission Space when she was 6 and there was only the 'classic' version. We were there last week (she is now 8) and she rode it again (the classic way) and was fine. However, she did say it made her a little nauseous but that went away. I believe my husband, who rode with her (I have back problems) said that when a child chooses the 'non-spinning' version, that it affects a person clustered with them (perhaps only 1 or it may be all 4 -- I am unsure .... someone else who has 'been there' can probably explain this better for you). My point is that it is a choice which affects other riders. I'm sure Disney has ways around that -- grouping others with similar requests possibly.

The spinning and non-spinning version have totally different lines, so everyone in your line has made the same choice as you.
You can't send a 6 yr old on the non-spinning while Dad rides the spinning, though.

Thank you, everyone for your input!
I think we will stick with non-spinning one. It does not sound like it would take a lot away from the ride. He just loves "space stuff" and I'm sure he would have blast just being in a "rocket ship"!

Start with the non-spinning version, and if you have time in your trip and he really, really wants to try the spinning version do that a different day. But if he has never been on the ride he won't even know what he is missing.
When we went over Christmas we all (dd's 13 and 9) rode the non-spinning and really enjoyed the ride much more than the spinning version. If he wants to ride because he enjoys space than the queue will impress him and just the fact that he is in a "rocket ship" will probably be enough.:)
Enjoy your trip!
