View Full Version : Disney Gets into Wedding Gowns
Niwel 02-22-2007, 02:11 PM According to todays' WSJ (http://publications.mediapost.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=Articles.showArticleHomePage&art_aid=55930)
Walt Disney is teaming with couture bridal designer Kirstie Kelly to create a line of wedding gowns inspired by Cinderella, Snow White, Belle, Sleeping Beauty, Jasmine or Ariel. The dresses come in high-shine satin with ball-gown skirts and make generous use of silver embroidery and crystal. They will cost from $1,100 to $3,000.
cstephens 02-22-2007, 06:00 PM I'm going to have my Disney Fan Club card taken away because I would have had zero interest in this.

Nah.... you're still good! :)
As much fun as it would be to have one I'd rather have spent what I spent on mine (far less than what these cost) and have the $$ to go to a park.
findingmickey 02-22-2007, 11:43 PM sounds pretty...wish there were pics of the dresses! but we just got married last year, and i'm glad we don't have to go thru that again (over 500 guests at our reception...need i say more)! anyways, i didn't pay that much for my dress. i'd rather spend the money on our house or a disneyworld vacation! ;)

I wonder if this means the much-delayed Disney Wedding Accessory & Gift collection will finally see the light of day...
AVP
kiwifuz 02-24-2007, 06:08 PM I really just don't get it.
I don't think price wise that's really that expensive. But that really depends upon what these things look like and how "nice" they are.
I just really hope that they aren't very "princess-like". I just could never see myself wanting to wear a white version of Snow White's dress or something. I even wore a matte satin ball gown with box pleats & sparkly beading on top for my wedding and I still just can't see this.
Iceman 02-28-2007, 06:29 PM The article I read made it clear that the dresses were inspired by each princess in an artsy, abstract sort of way. Brides who wear them will not look like they're wearing Halloween costumes.
The pricing is extraordinarily reasonable, in fact it's low enough to make me wonder if Disney is low-balling and will miss the market they really want. And yes, according to the last Eyes & Ears the wedding accessory collection is imminent...
The Real Cinderella 04-17-2007, 10:56 PM Disney to offer gowns for princess brides (http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/18134623/from/ET/)
Pirate Princess 04-17-2007, 11:02 PM I know at least four 19-26 year olds who will love this article... because they WILL buy these wedding dresses.
Not for me... but there is a market for this. Very creative.
DizneyPrincess 04-17-2007, 11:09 PM I thought it was great that they had David Tutera design receptions, but now this. Wow! They are certainly are making sure they keep their niche in the wedding market!

darph nader 04-18-2007, 07:53 AM No offence, but how can you put the word 'mere' in front of $3000? Heck, for $3000 we spend a whole 'week' in so Cal. I know some people think nothing of this kinda $$$,but ,man-o-man.
Pirate Princess 04-18-2007, 08:27 AM It seemed sarcastic the way I read it.. but not sure of the OP's intentions.
Nevertheless, most of the gowns pictured don't really evoke a specific princess. If I went to a wedding and didn't know about the gown's design and there wasn't a "theme" I would definitely say the bride looked like a princess, as most brides tend to look, but I would never say "Wow, you look just like Jasmine/Aurora/etc. in that gown.” The gowns look very similar to those showing up in the window of our local bridal store right now (I drive past them everyday.) Especially the "Belle." Maybe it is just here but similar gowns have been in the window for the last few months.
However, all of the gowns are VERY beautiful.
The Real Cinderella 04-18-2007, 10:31 AM It was sarcastic. $3000 is a whole lotta money!!
Clotho 04-18-2007, 01:44 PM I just don't see the inspiration...?
I mean, I would cringe if they were seriously cheesy costume-y looking gowns, but I guess I thought some of them (even if not all), through the colors, silhouettes, or something would be immediately evocative...?
GusMan 04-18-2007, 04:09 PM Whats $3K especially if you spend $50K at a Disney wedding. Just think of all the Disney Dollars one can get by using your Disney Visa. :)
jcruise86 04-18-2007, 07:33 PM The Cruella line will be more interesting!
PETA beware.
Mark Goldhaber 04-18-2007, 11:08 PM From this week's podcast show notes:

CarolKoster 04-21-2007, 05:58 AM Click on Mark's link, then on "Collections", then for "larger views". Within "larger views" you'll see there's actually more than one of each character dress (more than one Cinderella, more than one Belle, etc. for each name). When you look through the collection photos you'll see some of the dresses actually are reminiscent of the character's clothes in a given movie. There's one within the Belle collection that resembles Belle's ballgown especially since the design can be done in a light gold fabric.
They are lovely dresses, that's for sure.
lofosho 04-21-2007, 03:26 PM I actually love the dresses! I would be lucky to get to wear one to my wedding. And as for the gasping about prices, have you ever bought a wedding dress? Those are pretty average prices :)
kiwifuz 04-21-2007, 04:10 PM Okay honestly, none of these do anything for me. Nothing was really what I expected. There were just too many for me that seemed to nightgown like, to revealing, odd designs.... I was really hoping for something almost princess-y. Hmm oh well I'm not in the market for a dress & if I was these wouldn't be anything I'd even look at.
Artemis908 04-23-2007, 05:44 PM Finally, the Disney wedding gown line was unveiled.

kirstie_29 04-24-2007, 04:31 PM Where is the Jessica Rabbit wedding gown?
Shinku 04-24-2007, 04:51 PM Yeah, I dunno. I was really looknig forward to these and it's just not doing it for me. I mean, they're pretty, but they're not Disney-y enough for me at least. That one Belle gown is the only one that even sort of looks "right" for the characters. I'm disappointed and surely wouldn't drop three thousand dollars on one of these.
