View Full Version : Places for babies to "wiggle" [DL]
Sorcerer Jody 02-15-2007, 09:35 PM I have a 10 month old baby...I'm just wondering if anyone knows of anywhere in the park where I can put down a blanket and let him stretch out and wiggle around for a little while. I don't want to make him sit in his stroller all day. I know I could go back to the hotel, but it would be nice if there were a patch of grass somewhere so I could put him down for just a few minutes. Thanks for any ideas!
yohomama212 02-15-2007, 11:35 PM I don't think you're going to find a patch of grass anywhere in the park! I take the opportunity in the cue lines for shows to let the kids run around some, especially if it's not too crowded or I have another adult with me. Tiki Room, Turtle Talk, those are mostly enclosed areas and I can let the kids run around a bit. I tell them to run to a point then come back to me, I have them do this a few times and they're at least worn down enough to not be jumping on my toes. Now that F! is gone for a while and TSI is closed down, the railing against the ROA is mostly stroller parking and on Monday was a pretty empty part of the park. I would toss the blanket down between the stroller and the railing and let baby play there for a bit. Or try the cue areas for the shows, especially if you're going to have another adult there with you to help create a barrier. I hope this helps some.

Drince88 02-16-2007, 04:34 AM And just to clarify, are you talking DL, or WDW?
I've read posts by someone who has a service training dog that goes to DL regularly, and she says that the grass areas are used by the service dogs. Even with a blanket, I don't think I'd put my baby down on that!
Isn't there a 'toddler' play area in Toon Town in DL and there's Poohs spot in the MK that might be options - though I'm not really sure of the layout of either.
dsnyredhead 02-16-2007, 05:02 AM How about the seating area at Fantasia Gardens? It's not a grass area but it's generally quiet and out of a traffic area.
GusMan 02-16-2007, 06:23 AM In WDW / MK - Poohs Playful Spot would most likely be a good place to allow for some "wiggle" time. You might just have to watch out for some of the other kids as well. But it is a good-sized area for such a purpose.
At Epcot, If I recall, there may be some "open space" in one of the Innovations pavilions that might do the trick as well.
Unfortunately, for Studios, Im drawing a blank, but might be something around the Playhouse Disney area.
Hope that helps.
lauras5boys 02-16-2007, 06:42 AM If you are talking Disneyland you can go to Goffy's playground in Toontown. Lots of crawling areas, a slide and if the baby is walking he can toddle around a bit on his own.
Over at California Adventure if you go to the Redwood play area there is a small section with two slides built into the rocks and if you don't mind chasing them they can wander that area pretty easily. But watch out for the little stream of water by the cave. My kids love to splash in that.
Depanding upon how warm it is a gret way to get out the wiggle sis to let them run wild in the little water areain Bugs land. We prefer the one farther in the back that looks like a hose.

Thanks for any ideas! If you are talking Disneyland, there is no grass that isn't fenced, and if you opt to go inside the fence, they will ask you to get back to the otherside of the fence. And yes, the service dogs use these areas for relief. Is there grass in the picnic area? Otherwise all I could think of would be on a blanket on a bench, or also over in Fantasia Gardens. It is cement, but it is quieter.
cstephens 02-16-2007, 01:33 PM Since we still don't know if this is DL or WDW, I'll throw in that at DCA's Animation Building, there's carpet inside so would be good for a baby.
And the Opera House on Disneyland's Main Street is carpeted as well.
Sorcerer Jody 02-16-2007, 07:52 PM I'm sorry I didn't clarify that I am going to Disneyland, not WDW. Thank you so much for your suggestions - that helps a lot! :)
Koala Gurl 02-19-2007, 10:46 AM OK, for DL...the places I used to let my DD out of the stroller included:
Animation Building in DCA - darkish (I nursed in there too), cartoons playing on big screens, and carpeted. You can bring your stroller inside the main area. We would almost always go there for a bit (DD was walking by 10 months, and she was (is) a wiggle worm) Bonus...there are characters in there too for photo ops.
Innoventions - DL - if you aren't too worried about germs (I'm not overly worried)...there is a plexiglass floor with lights / glass rocks under it. You can walk on it, and when I put DD there, she was just mesmerized. We stayed there for what seemed like a 1/2 hour while she crawled all around. This was the big winner for DD anyway. There are other areas too that aren't very crowded that you can put a blanket down and let the little one stretch out.
Goofy's play area - DL - The few times we have been there, it has been a bit crazy. But it is an area with one entrance for the little ones (I think it recommends 2 - 5?? something like that). It does have a padded ground though, so good for tumbles. (I would DEFINITELY use a blanket here though for crawling...it is not a smooth floor).
adriennek 02-19-2007, 01:00 PM At the Grand Californian hotel, there's a nice big grassy area. I think you get to it by walking parallel to the check-in desk and straight out the doors?
At both parks, I'd highly recommend the Baby Care Centers. They can wiggle around there in the lobby/community areas plus while you're there they're great places to change a diaper and/or feed the baby.
