When I started running, I bought a pair of the Nike Vapor headphones (http://images.google.com/imgres?imgurl=http://www.poddonkey.com/images/18_image.jpg&imgrefurl=http://www.poddonkey.com/article.php%3Fpage%3D18&h=125&w=125&sz=25&hl=en&sig2=TZvCR8_7KoiQ1gWeYtsnuQ&start=4&tbnid=yGLrt8-CJanK_M:&tbnh=90&tbnw=90&ei=dTPTRYmgMYSmhgSilJXgAw&prev=/images%3Fq%3Dnike%2Bvapor%2Bheadphone%26svnum%3D10 %26hl%3Den%26safe%3Dactive%26client%3Dfirefox-a%26rls%3Dorg.mozilla:en-US:official%26sa%3DN) by Philips for use with my iPod. They worked fine for a while, but then one got loose at the hinge and finally the plastic piece broke leaving just the bud without the earpiece. Now I am looking to get some new headphones, and I want some that will last longer than a few months.

Please share your experiences with headphones, both good and bad. How well did they fit? Did they stand up to the sweat and motion from running/working out? How was the sound quality?

Thanks for any input!

I have a pair of sony headphones that have an ear-bud that is a attached to a piece of plastic that goes around the ear. I like them because they let in just enough ambient noise yet have good enough quality. Some think they are uncomfortable, but they don't bother me. I will say that I listen to podcasts almost exclusively when I run, so quality may not be that great and I don't even know. I have tried some that have a foam piece that go directly into the ear. I hated them. I could hear every time my foot hit the ground and with the elevated heart rate and breathing, I could hear almost every heartbeat and breath that I took; very distracting. If you find something that works for you let me know. Just make sure that you can hear what is going on around you for your own safety.

As fashionable as the white iPod earphones are, I find that the first hint of sweat makes them start slipping off.

I've found that the best ones are the ones that actually wrap behind my head (that way I don't get "headphone hair" like the one from Sony (http://www.sonystyle.com/is-bin/INTERSHOP.enfinity/eCS/Store/en/-/USD/SY_DisplayProductInformation-Start?CategoryName=smb-pa_PADepartmentAccessories_Headphones_StreetStyle&ProductSKU=MDRG57G&Dept=audio&INT=sstyle-pa_headphones_portable-deptfeature-MDRG57G|sstyle:sy_cat_content_p:pa_headphones_port able)).

That said, the wrap-around ones make it hard to quickly remove one side to hear traffic. It's generally a very bad idea (especially for women) to run or walk while wearing headphones/earphones. There's the general safety issue with traffic, but listening to music while out exercising is a very good way to become insulated and unaware of one's surroundings, which is an extra concern for women running alone. Sometimes you need to be able to "sense" if someone is behind you maintaining your same pace, and you can't hear that wearing earphones.

Yes, I realize I should be careful wearing headphones. Thanks.

Anyone have experience with Sennheiser? Like these (http://www.amazon.com/Sennheiser-Twist-Stereo-Sport-Headphones/dp/B000FJEYZS/sr=1-3/qid=1171496576/ref=sr_1_3/103-3739388-8861461?ie=UTF8&s=electronics)?

No, but they look cool! Aside from the tacky neon green.

I just wear the standard iPod whites at the gym. They suit me okay. One side falls out sometimes when I sprint though. It can get annoying. I am also looking forward to suggestions!

Hi Steph, I bought the Sennheiser ear phones for my husband. He says they work well, and don't fall out. Like Lani, I like the kind that wrap around my head, but mine wore out. Now I'm using a Sony "over the ear" pair that I bought at Target for $10. I don't love them, but they get the job done.

I dont know what the model is. They're nothing special. I think I paid about $15-20 for them about a year ago.

I'm not sure if it's been mentioned or not in here...

I have a pair of bluetooth headphones that I find are really good for working out. Part of the reason, for me at least, that my headphones were slipping was because the cord would help drag them down. Now I can secure my ipod with a belt clip and bluetooth the headphones and I don't have a problem at all. There are several models/varieties on amazon if you look around.
