QuikQuote: Walt Disney sailed into fame and fortune with Steamboat Willie featuring Mickey Mouse.
Clearwater resident Steven Stein thinks he has Disney's original drawing of the famous character.
"Nobody else would have done anything this big of this character in the 1920's except Walt Disney," Stein claimed.
Mark Goldhaber 02-09-2007, 05:43 PM Oh, puh-leez. Talk about not even having a clue about animation art, let alone the actual history of what you think you have. Even my wife, at a quick glance, said "that's not the way the original Mickey looked." Schmuck.
raediance 02-09-2007, 05:53 PM he's just trying to find a way to make money. xP

exactly what i was thinking - we actually have a lab at my school thats researching the use of ink dating and its efficiency and ways to make it more accurate - its been doing on a government forensics grant , pretty heavy duty stuff
ILovePoker 02-09-2007, 07:52 PM This is what the US needs. For tort law, they need to have a limit on how much these idiots can sue for. In Canada, the maximum amount a person can sue for is $250,000, excluding punitive damages. Plus, whoever's side loses has to pay not only the sum ordered but has to pay for both his own and the other persons lawyer fees. This is what would keep idiots like this man from suing a company for sure.
Opus1guy 02-10-2007, 12:16 AM Walt never drew that well (not that it's a very good drawing anyway). All the publicity shots of Walt drawing Mickey were posed...with him using someone else's drawings.
Besides...where does this guy come off thinking that just because he might own the first Mickey Mouse drawing...that he somehow owns the rights to the character? This guy is going to be laughed right out of court.
crrees 02-10-2007, 09:13 AM Ya i am no lawyer so i dont understand WHY this case is substantial and why a lawyer would take it?
I mean..so what...he "has" the "first" drawing of mickey mouse? So hes entitled to the writes of Disneyworld?
Hang on im gonna go make a sketch of Bart Simpson and demand that I get writes to the TV show

I don't understand why the TV station took him seriously enough to do a story on him without even doing the minimal research (practically none) necessary to discredit him.

Unfortunately its probably because they think big headline first, because they know it will get peoples attention, and then worry about sorting out the details later. Its sad.
Mark Goldhaber 02-11-2007, 12:21 PM Silly me. I forgot. It's sweeps month.
Disney Vault 02-12-2007, 10:59 PM I think Disney needs to sue this idiot for $50 million.
GusMan 02-14-2007, 05:49 PM Sometimes you have to look at lawsuits like this and just ask why.
Personally, if it does go to court, please let it go to Judge Judy or someone who would just rip him a new one in front of everyone. That in of itself would be entertainment.
disneyroxxx 02-14-2007, 06:04 PM wasn't Walt Disney on a train heading home, and he sketched a rough draft of a mouse for a new character?
I don't think he would have had some huge poster and drawn mickey mouse right away.
another case dismissed.
you would think that people would stop suing Disney when they see about 90% of all cases lose.
