Monterey Bay Aquarium is "Wild About Otters"

Wild About Otters opens March 31, 2007

With their playful personalities and constant curiosity, otters make us laugh and warm our hearts. Monterey Bay Aquarium will step beyond sea otters on March 31 when we open our new special exhibition, Wild About Otters. It features six sleek African spotted-necked otters (including two young pups), four rambunctious Asian small-clawed otters and the amazing tropical freshwater fishes, reptiles and plants - over 30 species in all - found in the lush tropical habitats these otters call home.

The special exhibition also highlights the work of aquarium sea otter researchers and shares stories about these endearing local icons.

Wild About Otters marks the first time the aquarium is exhibiting mammals other than sea otters, and the first special exhibition to showcase freshwater exhibits. It's home to very cool critters: vine snakes, exotic frogs, cichlids, wild bettas, gouramis, archerfish and many more. The planted aquariums in the exhibits are living works of art. There's a lot to do, too: a family craft room, and other hands-on experiences for the young and young-spirited.

We think visitors will love these engaging, high-spirited animals. We think you'll find great photo and video opportunities, compelling animal stories and strong conservation messages about the global importance of clean water to otters - and people - all over the world.

There's a full press kit and links to photos in our online pressroom. Media preview opportunities begin on March 17; please contact us for details.
