View Full Version : babies and rides
KRA0125 02-02-2007, 11:56 AM Hi all, the family and I will be heading down to DL very soon but this time with a 5 month old. I was under the impression that she could go on anything without a height restriction but I wanted to get your feedback. What can she go on?
Thanks for the help.
backsthepack 02-02-2007, 12:00 PM I would imagine she could go on things like Small World, Dumbo, Story Book Canal, etc. As long as it is a slower ride and one that will allow you to hold her.
adriennek 02-02-2007, 12:03 PM Rides for 5-months olds aren't too different from rides for 14-month olds ( http://mousepad.mouseplanet.com/showthread.php?t=65520), so I'd check out that thread.
In short, you're correct. Most of the time, it's been most comfortable for me to carry a baby that young in the Baby Bjorn, even onto the ride. Some rides require removing the baby from the carrier and even require that the baby know how to sit up by itself. Roger Rabbit is one of these rides and I do NOT recommend taking a baby on it because it's very jerky, even if you don't spin the car.

vfire 02-02-2007, 12:25 PM I'd even play it safe and not take a five month old on Dumbo. Maybe the spinning will make a five year old dizzy as their sense of balance is undeveloped. Too much swinging of a baby has been known to cause cerebral damage so I'd play it safe.

Basically, if it doesn't have a height OR AGE requirement (Autopia) it would be ok. I agree with AdreinneK on Roger though. Its a little to jerky for an infant.
KRA0125 02-02-2007, 01:32 PM Thanks for all of the feedback, that is kind of what I thought, what are your thoughtson taking the baby on Pirates? I have not been on since the refurb and was not sure about the drops......

I would defnitely take the baby on pirates, although we didnt take my daughter till she was a bit older (she didnt go to DL will she was close to 2), I know people that have taken smaller babies and they loved it. Especially if you can keep the baby in the bjorn, if not just hang on. The drops are still small, and for me I wanted to get my DD used to these rides from the beginning. She is now a brave soul willing to ride just about anything!

You're confused because I'm an idiot. I meant five month old both times. I don't think Dumbo is good for a small baby's equilibrium. I'm sure it's fine for kids who are already walking or even toddling.
adriennek 02-02-2007, 02:26 PM Re: Dumbo - I wouldn't have a problem taking a baby on Dumbo - the centrifugal force isn't that great and it's actually necessary for young children to 'spin' in order to develop their inner brain connections.
Re: Pirates - I have taken infants on Pirates many times. It's a great nursing ride. (15 minutes long!) - Just hold them close during the drops.

Adrienne Thanks, I was pretty sure I knew that. I have always taken small ones on Dumbo. Heck, even the dog rides Dumbo! (He likes POTC better though...) And if the dog can handle the drops on POTC, a baby should be fine. (And I agree about it being a great nursing ride...) Oh and since this is Parenting (which is similar to dog training, except with baby humans instead of doggie babies) we are expecting our next bundle of joy! She is a little black lab, only a week old now!
yohomama212 02-02-2007, 04:38 PM DS' first trip to the park, he was 12 days old! We took him on POTC and he loved it (about as much as a 12 day old baby can love a ride). We also took him on IASW and HM, but those are rides I'd normally worry about. I'm not sure I could nurse on POTC though, but that's just me.
Liz

Absolutely - every mom is different. But, then, I nursed my oldest when he was about 3 months old while I was squatting on Hollywood Blvd waiting in line to see "A Bug's Life" at the El Capitan Theater. :D (Strangest places I've Nursed for 100, Alex.)
Pirates, Small World, HM, DL Railroad, Monorail - I'm sure I'm missing others - but they're great nursing rides. Haunted Mansion is a little short but there were times when I just needed to feed a baby long enough to get him to sleep - that was a good ride for that.

KRA0125 02-02-2007, 08:16 PM Thanks to all of you, now I have no worries about taking the little one to meet Mickey and the gang. Can't wait to ride pirates! :D
Drince88 02-03-2007, 04:18 AM I can't believe it wasn't brought up in this thread....
Check out this post (http://mousepad.mouseplanet.com/showpost.php?p=957989&postcount=18) for a fantabulous strategy for meeting Mickey the first time!
