Not that we've all finished the marathon and most of us have fully recovered, are there any other races this year that you plan on doing?
Here is my race calender(subject to change)
Starting Sunday, January 21st, the Memphis Runners Track Club is holding their annual winter cross country series. Its all trail running.
Jan 21st 3K
Jan 27th 5K
Feb 18th 8K
Feb 25th 10K
March 11 Spring Mile Its a timed mile run. Just to see how fast you can run. There will be some reeeeally fast times.
March 18th Germantown (Suburb of Memphis) Half-Marathon
March 24th Kids for Kids 5K International Paper. Raises $ more needy kids in Africa.
April 7 Bunny Run 5k
April 28 Nashville Country Music Maraton or Half. Haven't decided.
May 25 Zoom through the Zoo 4 miler. Through the Memphis Zoo. Nice run.
June 23 Clearmountain Spring Water Ultimate 10k This is the only race that I really thought I was going to pass out running. Its so hot. If anyone has been in the south in the summer, they would understand.
July 3 Firecracker 5K
July 7 Mustang Summer Sizzle This was my first race to compete in 4 years ago, so I make it an annual run. Flat, fast, hooooot
Dec 1 Memphis St. Jude Half Marathon
Thats all I have planned for sure so far. I guess you can go ahead and add in the WDW marathon too!

I was thinking of looking ahead to some potential races this year. Around here though, nothing much happens until we thaw out.
I'm thinking about doing the Adirondack half marathon (http://www.adirondackmarathon.org/) in September.

That looks like a good race. Whats funny is that the half marathon starts at mile 13 of the full, so you could see the race winner pass you towards the end. LoL.

The Boilermaker (http://www.boilermaker.com/) 15K in Utica is another popular one with local runners. There's beer at the post-race area!

That was kind of depressing during the WDW Half Marathon, too. I was at something like Mile 4, and we saw the winner pass us the other way (since the half is an out and back), and he was at something like Mile 9! It was actually kind of exciting, though, and we were all cheering.

The Disneyland half last year was my first race. I loved the challenge and signed up with TnT do the LA Marathon so I can push myself further. Here's my schedule at the moment:
January 21st: Carlsbad Half Marathon
February 4th: Ventura Half Marathon
March 4th: LA Marathon
June 3rd: San Diego Roch N Roll Marathon
September 3rd: Disneyland Half
January next year: Goofy
There will probably be some other shorter races along the way, but my main focus is to finish LA with Team in Training and train, train, train so I can finish the Goofy without killing myself. Fortunately there are many, many races to choose from here in Southern California.

Goodluck! Sounds like you caught the marathon bug.
I have some friends that did San Diego last year and loved the race itself, but didn't like the course. They said a lot of the roads are slanted and it caused knee problems. But, they said it was very nice and they loved the finish at the Marines base.

I did the Country Music Half Marathon last year and the full and half finish lines almost dead into each other. I finished he half in 2:08 and was getting my chip taken off and getting my medal. I heard a lot of people cheering and turned around and the winner of the full was comming down the final part and crossed the finish line. I was more winded than he was. LoL

If anyone is ever in Memphis in December, you should try and to the St Jude Marathon (http://www.stjudemarathon.org/).
Its not a huge Marathon, but its for a great cause. The race probably has a 2:1 ratio of volunteers to racers. No joke. Plus, it has live bands every few miles and a great post race. It ends at Autozone Park where the Triple A Redbirds play. They let you take showers in the locker rooms.
If you don't know what St. Jude is, its a research hospital for kids with cancer. All services are free of charge to the patients and their families. They're operating budget is something like $1.2 million a day. I plan on either doing the race as a St. Jude hero or with TNT.

My next race will be the Love 'em or Leave 'em 5K race on 2/12. My husband and I are running it as a team. After that we are flying to New Orleans for the Mardi Gras Marathon on 2/25. We ran the half marathon in 2006. It was an amazing experience to run through neighborhoods that had been ravaged by 13 feet of water. We are going back because we want to see how much progress has been made, and because we want to show our support for the people of the city. It is also an extremely fun race, and the money goes to help rebuild the city.

Wow, I was under the impression that beer was a normal thing? Guess that's what happens when I talk to runners here in New Orleans:eek:
And DatabaseDiva - I know they don't change the date of the marathon to match Mardi Gras, but Mardi Gras is actually the Tuesday before the race this year, so if you were making plans to enjoy some of the festivities, come early, don't stay late!
(I hope you're able to see improvement, it's so slow, it's often hard for us seeing stuff every day to notice it!)

Ohh, tell me how the Mardi Gras Marathon goes. I've been thinking about that one. NOLA is only about a 6 hour drive from Memphis.

Good morning...
I have a plan to run Boston's Run To Remember (it honors law enforcement officers who have died in the line of duty), it's half marathon. I plan on running a couple of 5K's, one's a Founder's Day race in my town and one in the city I used to live in.
I'm registering for the WDW Marathon in the next day or so so I have something to shoot for come '08.

I'm doing my very first 5K in April for Cure Autism Now. I'm not sure how it'll go but I'm very excited to be participating. I am also doing the DL 5K Family Fun Run in September. I'm so excited to actually be "in" the races/walks after volunteering for several last year. :)

I love 5Ks. They're not too difficult, as long as you have been running a little bit, and they can be lots of fun. By the time they get hard, they are usually over! I did my first 5K last fall, after having never run in a race, and it was great. You will do great!

Last year at the Mardi Gras Half Marathon I got passed at mile 10 by a guy who was running while eating a plate of jambalaya, and pushing a jogging stroller with a half case of beer. I read in the paper later that he was drinking a beer when he crossed the finish line. Is there any wonder we want to go back ;) New Orleans is this insane mixture of humor and heartbreak, kind of like life, actually.
Last year the race was several weeks before Mardi Gras. This year it is the weekend after. We are flying in on Thursday, so the festivities will be over. The Monday after the race we will drive to Meridian, MS, where our daughter and son-in-law live. She is expecting our first grandchild on March 6. We return home before the 6th, but maybe the baby will be anxious to meet us ;)
I'll be sure to give a race report when we get back. I would encourage anyone who lives in the area to participate. They have a half marathon & 5K as well.
