Hi, I was wondering if anyone would be able to help me out. We will be at Disney World the end of this month. I have read on both Mouse Planet and the WDW website that the ride in Mexico will be closed down for refurbishment. Does anyone know how that is going to affect the view of people that are eating at the San Angel Inn? It will be my parents very first time ever to Epcot and I would be so disappointed if I took them there to eat and the temple and river that you see from where you eat is all covered up from construction.

Shouldn't affect the view at all except that no boats will drift past. However, they might drain the "river". The new ride will heavily feature the 3 Caballeros -Donald Duck, Joe Carioca (a parrot) and Panchita (a rooster) based on the famous cartoon made in 1945. To be sure what view you will get why not call Guest Relations and ask:
(407) WDW-MAGIC (939-6244)

Thanks for the info. When I called the reservation desk, the cast member wasn't sure if the view would be in jeopardy or not. A drained river view wouldn't be too exciting. Maybe we will eat in another "country".

I am glad that they are refurbishing the ride.

I also really like that restaurant, so I hope you get to eat there Family5LovesDisney!

From what I heard, the San Angel Inn is substandard when it comes to Mexican food anyway. Out of all the restaurants I've eaten at in World Showcase I think my favorite is Les Chefs De France. Le Cellier was pretty good. Hated L'Originale Alfredo di Roma (food was decent, service sucked). Coral Reef was pretty decent. Better ambiance than food though. It might be a good choice if you want that interesting view. The fish tank is pretty neat.

ETA: I forgot to say I know the CR isn't in World Showcase, but I just wanted to present another option.

I agree with you but I have FUSSY kids :crying: in the family and the children's menu selections in most of those places have nothing that my children will eat. (even the Rose & Crown menu sounded good but my boys won't eat fish or mashed potatoes) I just read most of the ones that were posted here on Mouse Planet (it's been three years since our last trip to WDW....we were doing DL instead) My husband and I were able to go to WDW a few times without the kids...............we had so much fun eating in all of the places the kids would hate.

Me too! But I will admit that for some reason, it was always one of our favorites...... Sort of a Mexican feel to It's A Small World! I always loved the last room with the really fake looking fireworks on the ceiling.......and the street vendors that follow your boat and try to sell you stuff!

Im so glad they are refurbishing it, im sorry but i laugh everytime i am on it, i feel at the end im at IASW, and some of the video is really corny

That one part where the people are trying to sell you stuff is HILARIOUS -- just like if you were in Cancun

I think overall the food is pretty good. the bad part is they are CONSTANTLY changing the menu. in Oct. we noticed the flan came back, but not the Quesa Fundido.
I'm glad they are updating the ride. although some demented part of me will miss the music:~D.

I really should try it to form my own opinion. I am half Mexican though so I tend to be picky when it comes to my Mexican food!

I too can't wait for the ride update. Not currently a fan of El Rio Del Sueño.

None of Epcot's restaurants are really shining examples of their respective countrie's food. Remember, they are catering to the average tourist who may not know any better or even care. It's us repeat guests that obsess with details that are more likely to consider it all substandard. Personally, when dining in Epcot, I'm going as much for the theming and atmosphere as the meal itself.

A similar thing happened to us in Disneyland last weekend. Apparently in the South they eat black eyed peas for New Years? My friend wanted some so we checked every food location in New Orleans Square. Nothing at all. So local traditions aren't often repeated in their themed lands within the park.

I think I would just refuse to feed them anything else. After a few days, they'd be lapping up fish and mashed potatoes! :p

I'd have to say Morocco's restaurant food is pretty authentic. I have eaten in the actual country so can compare. Japan's Teppanyaki is pretty good too. As for the U.K. - that really is for the tourist (and I'm from U.K.)

You're probably right. But I don't care too much about how super authentic the French food in Les Chefs is because I didn't grow up eating homemade French food. Plus even a lot of the take-out Mexican food I eat is pretty not bad cuz I live in Cali.

I've found that the Jazz Kitchen Express has a pretty decent selection of Southern food. They have stuff I haven't seen in NOS.

They didn't ask for cabbage too! I was at WDW last year for New Years and was also disappointed. We had an ADR for Tails End hoping they at least would have some.

Contrary to most, I am disappointed in the refurbishment. I loved this ride ever since I rode it as a young kid. I like how it starts from the Aztecs/Mayans and quickly makes it way up to semi-modern times without discarding the culture. I will be very disappointed if a lot of the stuff is taken out and replaced with duck animatronics. I hope it changes less than Pirates did, as the refurbishment of Pirates took away some of the fun of that ride. I probably reminisce too much and think about the good ol' days of all the rides as a kid! :D

Well, we cancelled the reservations in Mexico since TEPPANYAKI is now going to be open and I was able to make reservations there instead. Authentic or not........my boys LOVE the show and are happy to gobble down chicken, veggies, rice and anything else the chef sends their way :)

...It seems that work is indeed being done on the pyramid scene in conjunction with the Three Caballeros makeover of the El Rio del Tiempo (http://www.mouseplanet.com/guide.php?pg=BDI101) attraction at Epcot's Mexico (http://www.mouseplanet.com/guide.php?pg=BDI000) pavilion. During the work, diners at the San Angel Inn Restaurante (http://www.mouseplanet.com/guide.php?pg=BDI402) will have a view of a construction wall.

This is from todays WDW update.

True, I am sure watching the Chef's in Japan will be much more entertaining then staring at a wall.

I was at Epcot the other day and asked a CM in the Mexico pavilion if they are changing the name of the ride, and she said yes. The sign was covered. I really hope they didn't take all the old stuff out. I loved that ride, corny and all! And I loved the music. Are they changing that too?

El Rio Di Tempo will reopen April 2 and Teppanyaki is closed for a long while...till August...allears.net has it listed
