View Full Version : Baby Necessities
woodcookie 12-05-2006, 04:25 PM We are leaving Sunday to take our two daughters (4yrs & 6mos) to Disneyland for the first time. Since we'll be there 5 days, I really don't want to pack all the diapers, wipes, baby food, etc that will be neccessasry for the entire trip. I know that the park sells diapers and baby food at the baby care center - but is there any place else close to the Disneyland Hotel that would carry these items?
Any other tips for surviving the parks with an infant would be helpful.
Thanks, Erin

Target is about 2 miles south on Harbor. Food 4 Less is about 5 miles north on Harbor.

They do sell small packages of diapers (and other necessities) in the hotel giftshops, however, I always prefered to take them along, yes they take up a lot of space at the beginning of the trip in your suitcase, but they create a nice space for souveniers on for the return trip!

You might want to rethink bringing your own supplies. Yes, they sell them at the DLR and nearby, but they will cost you more (on property) or take time away from your vacation at the parks. You will have to deal with all those things eventually while on our trip, so why not get it over with from the beginning and have more time and $ for your vacation? Also, if you or your children are used to certain products, it's best to bring them with you than try and search for them while on vacation. As has been pointed out, the space for supplies will turn into space for bringing other things home.
Regarding food, the baby center only has a limited variety of foods (VERY bland) and they are at a premium rice ($1 for a little jar). And I found that if I picked up some milk (at a gas station with a mini mart) before going to the hotel, it saved me much time and $$.
I dont know if you're flying or driving, but I still think packing your supplies is a good idea.
Biggest tip for doing the park with an infant is to relax and enjoy another side to Disneyland.
There are rides they can go on (Dumbo, Small World, carousel, etc.) and you can do the ride swap thing with your partner and child for other rides. Use Fast Passes (they stay good for the whole day), take in parades, see if your child will nap in a stroller, or be prepared to do an afternoon nap/pool session at your hotel. Consider making time for character meals or meet & greets. Take lots of pictures! Use the wonderful Baby Center. Have a great trip!
woodcookie 12-06-2006, 02:18 AM Thanks for the advice. I'll probably end up packing the whole lot and I do realize that it will make room for souveniors. It's just that we are flying down and with all the car seats, strollers and other "equipment" you need for a vacation with baby, I wasn't sure we'd have room to carry all that stuff too.
I'm sure it will be a different experience that any other Disney trip I've taken, probably a MUCH slower pace than I'm used to. I'm looking forward to the look on my 4 year olds face when she sees Main Street USA for the first time. :)
RangerPooh 12-06-2006, 10:03 AM We have traveled many times cross counry with an infant (mainly to either DLR or WDW) and found that bringing our own diapers and wipes is the best thig to do. The parks charge a lot for a small package that isn't our usual brand, plus they don't always have your child size. Alos, formula is expensive at the aprks! You'll easily pay $# for a small 4oz(?) can. We ran out at WDW once and had to pay way too much. So bring a can. We too view it as we'll ahve room for souvies at the end of our trip.
Here is something that we do when flying with the car seat, stroller, and luggage. Buy stroller and carseat bags. If you are checking the carseat; at the check in counter place it in the bag, stuff it with other items...the seat is a great storage space for sweaters and jackets not being worn on the flight or if extra room is needed in the suitcase. Also, fly with a big diaoer bag that can still fit under theseat in front of you. I fill mine with WAY more diapers than I need as 1. don't want to ru out, and 2. that means fewer goes into the suitcase. I also stash things like formula in here too. HTH
june1st1997 12-06-2006, 12:30 PM I have just returned from another cross country trip to my in-laws in NYC. I used this company: http://babytravellite.com/
It was a lifesaver... but a bit pricey. Not only will they ship things to the hotel... they will piick upi from teh hotel and ship back to your home.
It saved me.
My feelings are, it is so taxing to travel with an infant... I can't imagine 2... anything that makes my life easier is worth a few extra $.
Enjoy.
june1st1997 12-06-2006, 12:35 PM It's not the prices of the items.. I found those to be pretty good and on some items better than my local grocery... The shipping was a bit more than I thought... But again... I loved it and it totally saved me
june1st1997 12-06-2006, 12:49 PM Another thing you might want to consider...
Pampers Clean & Play wipes. They are kinda like the Lysol disinfecting wipes... But tehy are for children's toys. And it's safe for things that go in baby's mouth.
I love them. In fact I drive 45 mins each way every 6 weeks to buy every container they have at Babies R Us.
I wipe down everything she might touch in the hotel room. Also great if she drops her favorite toy at the park. They are an absolute lifesaver. I use them at home to wipe down her toys after they have been compromised. They have a spray as well that we use for her highchair and her foam mat on the front room floor.
Babytravlelite also carries them. In fact that is how I found the sight.
Again have a magical time.

Thanks so much for the tip. i wish I had known about this service the last time I flew with my toddler. What a difference that would have made. I just placed my order with babytravellite.com and the prices really weren't bad. I was happy to see they had other products like juice boxes and fruit snacks for my 4yr old. I will definately use this service again, I only wish I had learned of it sooner, because our trip is so soon, I had to pay a Convenience Charge for rush delivery. That made it pricey, but heck now I don't have to add grocery shopping to my list of things to do before we leave! I also saw the pampers clean & play wipes you were talking about in another post and am going to try those out as well. Thanks again.
lauras5boys 12-06-2006, 03:18 PM Ok...the person who came up with that website is brilliant! I just bookmarked it for our next trip. Thanks for the info on that.
june1st1997 12-07-2006, 11:22 AM I'm glad you guys found it helpful.
