I'm thinking of buying it for a family Christmas gift. I don't have PS2 or Xbox or anything but a tv.

Give me advice. Any experience or opinions about DDR will be appreciated.

Thanks!

Umm...well Helen. I do not know too much about it but I do think first you need either the PS2 or XBox. :D

That said, I do know that the kids love it. I have seen that you can buy a style very close to the one at the arcades {but for one person}.

It is good exercise. You can use the floor pad {which is fine as opposed to the one I mentioned above} or the hand controller to play.

Do you know how it works? Not crazy like Twister but you do have to follow the 'colored dots' on the screen that go to the music and you earn points this way.

Well, that is what I know.

I've got a dance mat with a Disney Dancing game and I really like it. I do think you need a PS2 or PSOne to play though, but you can get games you can plug straight into your t.v.

My son said the PS2 version is better

but

He also said that 'Tomorrow is here, Mom, and the XBox 360 is going to have a DDR which will be the best.' :D {over 300 songs}

But, that is my son. He is on top of the gaming industry and works to pay for it. :~D

I guess it would depend upon what you family wants, if anyone wants to play with the system other than the DDR, which one has games they'd like to play. {not every game comes out for every system....}

No no! You need the Disney game, 'cos there's a hardcore version of it's a small world! How can you pass that up?!:p

I should have been more clear! I'm willing to buy a PS2 or an XBox. DDR runs on both platforms? Which is best?

I have a PS2 and I like it, so I vote for that:)

It is a great version to have if you are willing to pay the premium for it. It was a PS1 game (playable on PS2's) and is no longer published. You are able to find it on eBay, though, but be prepared to pay $100+ for it. I did and while that may seem insane, it was well worth it. It gets the most playtime around here...

There is also a DDR clone called "Jungle Book -Rythym and Groove" that is also a lot of fun. Also out of print as well, but can be found on eBay. I paid $15 for it a year ago and it is real cool too...

My take is that the PS2 is a good system to have. Many DDR versions out there for it. Many can be found on eBay for less than retail. You can sometimes find bundles of DDR games along with dance pads for good prices on eBay as well.

The PS2 versions of DDR that are EyeToy enabled are really cool. You can use your arms as well as your feet in the game from what I know.

Actually, the EyeToy is a really cool device as well... a USB camera for the PS2 that puts you in the game.

Hope that helps.

My boyfriend has the Jungle Book Groove Party, but I haven't played on it yet. I didn't realise the game was out of print though. I also have an Eye Toy which was fun to start off with, but I don't really use it anymore.

I thought the Jungle Book game was out of print... but I could be wrong. I know I have not seen it in stores lately. Besides, I tend to find the best game deals on eBay. There were a lot of neat Disney games created for PS1.

Make sure you before you buy it you have a place to play it. Whenever we go to play it in my living room my mom's statues start to shake from our jumping.

It's a really good work out though. There are also other video games out that my uncle has where you use the eye toy (i think that is what it is called) and you get put on the video screen and you have to box and do hundreds of other crazy stuff. I really work up a sweat playing all of those.

And that is what makes DDR/eye toy games really desirable since you actually have to physically move to play the game. The cool part is that you can start out slow on the lower levels and then work up to the harder levels as you get better. The result - as you get better at the game, the more you get used to the workout - and vice versa.

I think I will go play a game of it now... Get some exercise in before the huge turkey dinner. :)

I bought DDR for PS2 last year for Beth's Bday party. It came with two mats so 2 kids could play at a time. Since then, the kids get it out whenever they have friends over and it is a real hit at parties. Try looking for it on Ebay. :)

Now that is interesting... I may get it and put my PS2 version away and save it for a special occasion.
