View Full Version : Pregnant in the parks
vettechick99 11-14-2006, 12:16 PM I am trying (in vain probably) to convince DH to take me to Disney for a long weekend in February. I will be 7 months at that point and so far my pregnancy has been very easy (knock on wood!).
I have been enough times where there is no need for commando touring and I'm ok with missing the thrill rides. But never having been 7 months pg before, I don't quite know what to expect physically. Will I tired too easily? Will it even be worth the trip going down there?
Looking for some advice from people who have experience - good or bad.
TIA!
MammaSilva 11-14-2006, 12:27 PM My niece came to Disneyland on the first day of her 8th month...she walked a bit but mostly we put her in a wheelchair and her hubby pushed her around. We made lots of potty stops and we did very low key attractions, the Jungle Cruise, Tiki Room, Mark Twain and Peter Pan were the only ones she did that day....if you go, either plan to rent a ECV or a wheelchair and enjoy the slow pace of the park.
lauramaynot 11-14-2006, 01:25 PM I went in august at 8 months. the biggest problem for me was the heat. You probably won't have that problem in feb. but be sure to wear comfy shoes that expand to fit your feet when they swell up from all that walking. we rode all the low key stuff together and i sat out anything with a warning. some great places I found to sit and rest were tomorrowland - exit from SM, cool and close to bathrooms. Toontown - walkway under the bridge into toon town close to train depot and bathrooms. I cant' remember right now what it is called but the stage area to the right of the castle, close to mainstreet vehicles, snacks, and bathrooms. I didn't want to use a wheelchair or EVC so I used the transportation rides alot..

You said "Disney" - do you mean WDW in Orlando or Disneyland in Anaheim? The difference could affect the advice quite a bit. They're very different in size and scope.

My wife and I took our daughter to DL in August a week before her 3rd birthday and my wife was 7 months pregnant and we had a great experience. The key was that we used RideMax and it allowed us a huuuuge break in the middle of the afternoon. We stayed at a non-resort hotel and I was able to get my wife off of her feet for a few hours while my daughter napped. I couldn't have been happier with the trip. We did everything we wanted to do and then some...I was able to manage a 3 year old, and pregnant wife, heat and summer crowds without a hitch.
You will probably need:
* Twice as much water as you think you will need
* Ditto the potty breaks
* Stopping to rest and elevate your feet every couple of hours
* Checking in with your OB/NP/midwife about 2 weeks before you go
(and let them know about the trip you're planning earlier on)
* To take some of your own snacks with you -- stay away from salt
as much as possible (it increases your swelling)
Have a great time ... and if this will be your first baby, get as MUCH sleep as you possibly can. A nap after lunch can be your best friend. That can be in a hotel room or durig a show.
gloria 11-16-2006, 08:01 AM I was also 7 months pregnant with my 3rd child when we went in February two years ago. We took my mom and my brother, and since they live in Hawaii, we were non-stop for 7 days straight.
Toting two boys (4 and 2 yrs old) was tiring. But it was not different from any other day. I run after them at home and I ran after them at Disneyland. If I got tired, I sat and waited for everyone to do what they wanted to do.
I don't want to sound unsympathetic, but c'mon! A wheelchair for a pregnant woman??!! Women have been having babies forever!
The only downside was not being able to ride some rides. And that was not because of being pregnant, but it was because of having small children with you. And it's still that way and will be for a couple of years!
Good luck with your pregnancy!

When I was pregnant with my first, I used a wheelchair on occasion at Disneyland - I was 8.5 months pregnant and it was August ;)

WDW heart 11-19-2006, 11:16 AM I went to WDW for five days when I was 6 months pregnant. I walked the parks five days in a row. I was fine. When I was tired, I took a break and sat down. We had a great time. I missed a few of the rides but I was really going for my two year old to experience Disney for the first time so I didn't mind. My feet hurt at night, but the next morning I would feel ready to go. Just listen to your body. Maybe schedule a massage one day. :D That would have been nice.

Where is the risk? She said her PG has been uneventful so far and there is no harm in walking and strolling around the park. Just need some extra rest, water, and comfy shoes.
lauras5boys 11-22-2006, 05:42 PM I never used a wheelchair, even with the twins. You probably won't need one unless you are high risk and if you're high risk I'd probably suggest not going.
Just a little extra rest and extra water and you should be good to go.
aymieb 11-23-2006, 07:42 AM My husband and I took our two year old in August when I was 6.5 months pregnant. I had varicose veins (wore support hose) and a hernia (wore a support belt). We stayed at HoJos' so there was quite a walk involved. We had a BLAST! Just took lots of breaks. There are plenty of places to sit, buy a cool drink and relax. Lots of rides for small children and their pregnant mommies. We had so much fun. I am sure you will too.
Koala Gurl 11-28-2006, 08:29 PM I went in August at 37 weeks (to get one last trip in w/ DD, then 17 months.)
It was hot, but we took it slowly, I drank a ton of water, and we had a great time.
I even walked instead of taking the tram, since that was easier than getting the stroller on the tram solo. :)
