View Full Version : IE7 - Anyone Using It Yet?
TikiGeek 11-06-2006, 08:00 AM I was considering loading it but past experience with new versions of IE stopped me. Most of what I've read so far is fairly positive.
Is anyone on MP using it? - Experiences?
TIA - TikiGeek. :)
KJSJpipe 11-06-2006, 12:37 PM I am using it and must say I liked 6 better. I am far from a computer :geek: so I can't give you any real info. The thing I dislike the most is there is only one page, where in 6 there were tabs so you could look at more then one page at a time.
My question..how do I get back to 6?
Barbossa 11-06-2006, 01:54 PM Not yet, not ever. I switched to Mozilla Firefox a year or so ago after a massive Spyware attack via IE. Firefox (at the time) was not as vulnerable to Spyware and is generally nicer to use IMO.
Andrew 11-07-2006, 01:06 PM I have to use IE to access my company Web mail (it apparently also works in Firefox, but not in Opera which is my browser of choice. Whatever) and I'll occasionally use it when some awful site uses nonstandard broken proprietary monopolistic code on their site. Like Disney.com for example . I'll use IE7 when it auto-installs next week.
dznyphreak 11-07-2006, 05:07 PM I'm using it! KJSJpipe: My IE7 has tabs at the top of the page. I don't remember IE6 having them.
Anyways, I like it. Much easier to navigate between multiple pages.
Andrew 11-07-2006, 05:48 PM IE6 did not have tabs unless you used a third-party add-on like Maxthon (http://www.maxthon.com/). Opera and Firefox have had them for years, of course.

S H U T T E R S.
Guess I'll have to turn off Auto-Update. I'd like to wait a bit longer before installing this puppy.

 I am so easily confused! Ok so if I used to have tabs and now I don't what the heck do I have? I am pretty sure I upgraded to 7. How do I find out what I have?

On the menu bar at the top of the browser window, click Help and About.
KJSJpipe 11-08-2006, 02:46 PM Your so handy Andrew! So it seems that I am running IE6. Ok so the IE7 has tabs? I want that! Lets see if I can figure that part out on my own! I may be back soon!
KJSJpipe 11-08-2006, 03:13 PM I did it! I have tabs! :fez:
Opus1guy 11-16-2006, 04:58 PM Just coming back to this thread to report that after listening to first hand reports from several of our people that have now used it, as well as several staff members of clients that have now used it as well...the reports are pretty good. Most of them say they even like it better than Firefox. Renders faster than Firefox they say. They also seem to like the Control-Q (hope I got that right) thing that instantly brings up thumbnails of all open pages.
And even one of our most ardent Mac guys said after playing with it for a few hours, "I hope Microsoft gets off their high horse and decides to make a Mac version of this." So I thought that was a pretty good endorsement.
Personally...I'm still going to wait a week or two and monitor the review and problem sites before upgrading to it myself. But so far from my most geeky associates...it's getting good reviews.
Andrew 11-28-2006, 08:54 PM If you're using IE7 and it doesn't seem to respect your choice of start page, but instead always loads up http://runonce.msn.com/runonce2.aspx, do this:
Close any open IE7 windows.
Click Start - Run.
In the Run box, type: (copy and paste, all one line)
REG ADD "HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main" /V "RunOnceComplete" /T REG_DWORD /D 1 /F
Press Enter or click OK. A command prompt window will flash and disappear.
Click Start - Run.
In the Run box, type: (copy and paste, all one line)
REG ADD "HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main" /V "RunOnceHasShown" /T REG_DWORD /D 1 /F
Press Enter or click OK. A command prompt window will flash and disappear.
Launch IE7 and enjoy your own start page!
Shinku 11-28-2006, 09:01 PM I'm with Barbossa, I'm a Firefox user. My boyfriend recently convinced me to see the light. I figured if I was going to be forced to do tabbed browsing, I might as well do it "right". I still keep IE around for (as Andrew said) sites that refuse to let me non-conform, though.
Califgirl 11-29-2006, 07:29 AM Thank you Andrew!
cabozone 11-29-2006, 07:39 AM I am using IE7, it does seem more secure than IE6. That is usually a big issue for people using firefox. The tabs are definelty the must have addition. If you go into the 'Internet Options' and add some more settings to the tabs, like 'Open pop up windows in a new tab' etc. you can really make them work for you. And yes it is Ctrl-Q or click the button to the left of the first tab that has 4 squares on it that shows you a thumbnail of all the tabs you have open.
Andrew 11-29-2006, 05:36 PM Two useful sites for tweaking IE7 to your liking:
EnhanceIE.com (http://enhanceie.com/ie/tweaks.asp)
Frequently Asked Questions About Internet Explorer 6 (http://windowsxp.mvps.org/iefaq.htm) (includes lots of IE7 content as well)
