A banner ad just appeared up for me: Win $2000.00 by taking a Smoker's Survey.

This is the page when you click on it:
http://www.clk4.com/r/NEWemailindex.cgi?site_id=0000089194

Win $2000.00 by filling out a survey for Smoker's? A reward for smoking? That's a weird ad. It makes it appear you're cool if you smoke and someone will pay you to do it.

I don't having anything against MPers or guests who smoke. However, aren't there kids who log on sometimes?

If this is a clever "Don't Smoke" thing, then fine, ignore the above.

I would have filled out the survey, but I don't smoke nor do I want spam in my inbox.

Anyone?

Its sponsered by the tabacco companies. I clicked it, answered yes to the 2 questions and read the next part, and the little box at the bottom that you can check or uncheck said "yes I want to receive mail about special offers from the tabacco companies".

Can Admin. block this ad?

And for the record, I did NOT take the survey. I don't need the tobacco company pushing more cigg related stuff on me when I am trying to quit.

I would be very pleased if you would remove this ad, I am a member of Target Marget (http://www.tmvoice.com) , and am not for advertisements from Big Tobacco. Smoking really is not cool, and it shouldn't be here were people of my age see it and get wrong ideas. This is just my request.

The idea that RJR Reynolds tobacco would be advertising on a Disney-themed site boggles the mind. I can't think of anything more inappropriate. What's next? Hard liquor and online porn?

If this were brought to their attention, they would probably remove it. This is very bad publicity for the "new, more responsible" tobacco industry.

Can we have it removed by our administrators, or does it have to go up the ladder?

Ahhhhh. Thank goodness of the ad-blocking capabilities of OmniWeb (http://www.omnigroup.com/applications/omniweb/). You really don't learn to appreciate it until you don't have to deal with the seizure-inducing flashing banners and tobacco-hawking. I love Mac OS X.

Just to let you know that we are not ignoring these requests. We are *trying* to remove this banner, but it does not appear on the list of ads we are supposed to be serving on MousePlanet. As such, we're finding it really hard to block an ad that, so far as our ad companies are concerned, doesn't exist. We are not disputing that the ad is there - we've even seen it (once) - but it is nowhere on our list of ads our advertising partners are supposed to be sending up. Therefore, we can't block it.

As soon as we get to the bottom of this, we WILL block it - you can be assured of that. Our agreements with our advertising companies specifically say NO alcohol, tobacco, gambling or porn ads. They do slip through, and we block them as fast as we see them, but this ONE ad is extremely strange.

Thank you so much! I have only seen it that one time, maybe it was a bug, or a glitch in the ad system, or maybe it was some sort of hacker having fun. But we all know (and yes, I am speaking for the board) that you guys do your bestest to keep the board safe and fun for all :) Keep up the great work!

Ok, please ignore my previous ideas on why you can't find the ad. I just saw it 3 times in 5 minutes. After 11p.m. maybe its a time thing?

Honestly, we don't know. It's not showing as a possible ad from any of our regular ad networks, so either it's being substituted for an ad we have approved, or it's coming from another network. I've got Dan looking into it, and we'll have it resolved ASAP.

This ad is just freaky. Is there a way we can help you track it? A way we can save an address or something so we can send you that screen?

In responce to my own offer to help post, I copied this from running my mouse over the ad last time I saw it (11:12p.m.)

http://ads.mouseplanet.com/cgi/ad/adclick.cgi?cid=21mid=56gid=26id=639

it was all one one line but this did wraparound.
