ASIAN AMERICAN FEDERATION HOSTS 9TH ANNUAL ASIAN HERITAGE DAY AT PARAMOUNT’S GREAT AMERICA

Santa Clara, Calif. – More than 400 performers from six different Pacific Rim countries will join hands in a multicultural celebration of Asian-American Heritage Month for the 9th Annual Asian Heritage Day at Paramount’s Great America.

The daylong celebration of Asian cultures on Saturday, May 25 will feature traditional Japanese, Thai, Indian, Vietnamese, Taiwanese and Filipino performances. The festival will culminate with a performance by popular Vietnamese performers, The Tran and Y Lan. Other highlights of the performance include:

·Presentations by the three Japanese Taiko Drum groups who reside in the Bay Area;

·Traditional Thai Mask dancing, Thai Sword Fighting, and Thai Boxing;

·Recital of Filipino Bamboo Dancing;

·60 performers direct from Taiwan performing Diabolo, a Taiwanese folk dance that incorporates yo-yos.

A percentage of ticket sales from Asian Heritage Day will be donated to the Asian American Federation, sponsor of the event.

“As Asian-Americans, we are very proud of our Asian heritage, but we are also very proud to be Americans,” said John Hsiesh, Chairperson for the Asian American Federation of California. “We want to share our Asian culture with our American friends, and Paramount’s Great America is a place that represents American family values where there is something for everyone, ages one to 100.”

Short acts and small performances will take place in Celebration Plaza throughout the day on the Paramount Theater steps and on Celebration Stage. Traditional décor, including flags representing each Asian country, “welcome” signs in various native languages and various ethnic food booths will be assembled throughout the park.

The Asian American Federation was formed over nine years ago by a group of Asian community leaders. The goal of the organization is to promote Asian culture and cultural understanding, resulting in increased community peace and harmony. Nine years ago, the Asian American Federation held it’s first Asian American Heritage Festival to commemorate the month of May as Asian-American Heritage Month.
