is there a section or can someone tell me what some of these typical abbreviations stand for (ie, dd or imhop, etc)?
i am new to posting and i've read these things in numerous posts and i don't understand. at first, i thought dd was a child's name, but then i saw it on too many other posts, too many to be conincidentally the same name.
i know this is lame, but i don't know anywhere else to look.
are there other "standard" abbreviations used?

This thread (http://mousepad.mouseplanet.com/showthread.php?t=8117) in the FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions) forum has a lot of the ones specific to this site/Disney stuff.
I'm sure there's probably a couple of other lists out there for general posting - but on the ones you asked:
DD - Darling or Dear Daughter
DS - "" Son
DH - "" Husband
DW - "" Wife
IMHOP - In My Humble Opinon

Welcome Boo's Mommy!
I'm not a pro at abbreviations, but I can help you with some of the basics...
DS / DD .... Dear son / Dear daughter
(Sometimes you see a number after DS or DD if they have multiple kids)
DH / DW... Dear Husband / Dear Wife
IMHO... In my humble opinion
You will also see lots of Disney specific ones:
WDW / DL / DCA .... Walt Disney World / Disneyland / Disney's Ca Adventure
and all the rides too, some easier then others to decifer.
HISTA .... Honey I shrunk the Audience
ITTBAB ..... It's Tough to be a Bug
Hope that helps for starters.
ETA (Edited to Add): Oops, I started to reply and got pulled away before I was able to send. Never thought to look in the FAQ, thanks Drince88.

Welcome Boo's Mommy!
I felt the same way you did when I got here. I didn't understand DD/DS/DW/DH either. I found a padder that seemed friendly and asked her! She was happy to help.
If there are any more that stump you, feel free to ask. Most everyone is so helpful here, I am sure they would tell you. Or, feel free to pm me, and I will answer if I know! If not, I can find out! ;)
One that stumped me was YMMV. Your mileage may vary.
Pretty soon it will become second nature to you, and you will be using the abbreviations too.
Again, welcome! :D
