What is the best WDW attraction for a 8 y/o who is afraid of hights?

My sons are 5 and 8 y/o, where should I start??

Hello Mark, welcome to MousePlanet!
The first really good attraction for this situation would be like The Mad Tea Party or Winnie The Pooh since they dont go above ground level. Of course, Indy Speedway is a good choice as well as probably Buzz Lightyears Space Ranger Spin. None of these attractions are suspended above ground. I know there are more but I am drawing a blank. Im sure others will jump in as well.

Are there any other concerns your 8yo might have when it comes to rides such as dark or rides that may be scarry or have lots of suprises?

There are lots of rides and attractions, which don't involve heights. Pirates, the Haunted Mansion, and Buzz Lightyear, at the MK, are all cool for an eight-year old. My daughter is afraid or rollar coasters (Splash was about her limit, she went on it once, and hasn't since). She, specifically, refers to not liking rides which give her "a funny feeling in her stomach," which appears to refer to drops and swinging, not heights, as such, although she won't go on a ride involving extreme height, such as a ferris wheel. She's fine on the tea cups (so spinning isn't the issue), and rides such as the Magic Carpet/Dumbo, which involve some height. She loves Soarin', which involves the sensation of flight, and you are actually raised up, but it's not so obvious, because the room is dark, and you are looking ahead. She loves the "People Mover" at the MK, which is an elevated monorail type ride. My point is that he may have a pretty specific area of concern, and it may take further discussion or some experimentation, to figure out which, specific rides he will and won't like.

I have a ten year old that has a ride phobia! She won't go on Soarin' a ride that SIMULATES sky-diving but has been para-sailing three times - starting at age 7 - it makes me crazy!

She LOVES Buzz Lightyear and the motor speedway. She tried the Barnstormer after the CM promised to make the ride go slow just for her :) and then she liked it. The storm and the slight hill in the beg. of POTC scares her, and she won't go on any full-size roller coasters.

My girls really like some of the overlooked attractions like Swiss Family Treehouse (watch the movie first) Tom Sawyers Island and frontierland shooting gallery. You'll find plenty to keep you busy at all of the parks.

Have fun

I'm sure this was a typo, but just for anyone who isn't familiar with Soarin', it simulates hang-gliding, NOT sky-diving.
