I'm preparing our family holiday to WDW and visiting several websites for this purpose. On some websites I read the advise to diaper older children, even if they are potty trained. I found this advise on several (respected) US and UK websites. I was quite shocked.

One mother writes "I have to agree with the diapers for children 7 or under. The lines are very long, and while you wait, it is a guarantee after waiting a long period of time and just before you get on a ride one of the little ones has to go".

Although I'm not considering to diaper my 5 and 8 y/o sons I'm wondering if parents really do this and if its advisable.

I've never heard of such a thing. All I did was bring a change of clothes for them...just in case. But there's no way even my 4 year olds would go back to diapers.

I wouldn't, and could not imagine putting a school-aged child back in diapers or pull-ups. We never get into a line that is going to take very long, because the attractions we like either have short lines or we get Fass Passes. There are bathrooms all over the place, and, if you are going to be somewhere without ready access to a bathroom, you just make a stop first.

Wow! Never heard of such a thing. I guess I would the kind of parent would would do a "potty check" before getting in a long ride or before attending a longer show such as Fantasmic or LMA.

While I am not a psychologist, I would think putting a diaper on a child who has already been PT would be quite an insult to the child, even though the child may not be able to express such a feeling.

After reading a thread (about 2 or 3 months ago?) about the horrors and suffering of a breakdown on Pirates, I've started wearing Depends just to be safe, and I'm a healthy 42-year-old. You laugh, but Disney could make a few bucks selling this miracle product to those enduring lines on July and August weekends.

I haven't heard of it either. I never placed my kids in diapers once they were trained, and I would never consider it as an option.

Now, the POTC episode, yeah, that was a riot. I couldn't believe the exaggerations going on there.

I agree! Once after my son was first potty trained, a substitute daycare teacher put a diaper on him "just for naptime, just in case". He was just under 3 at the time. He was upset about it for weeks. I cannot imagine doing that to an older child.

I can't think of anything at that park to include a private tour of Walts apartment or a full complementary meal at the club for me and all my nearest and dearest that would make me think it was "ok" to put a toliet trained child BACK in a diaper or pull up 'just cuz the lines were long" Hello, you're talking about the mom of the girl that came off a vent and her first full sentence was I need to get up and go Potty mom NOW. Not even a bedpan type device would do, we got her UP and took care of her emotional needs as well as her physical...I can't imagine anyone doing that kind of emotional damage to a child and think it is "ok" for convience sake.

Hmm...I don't even put a diaper on my two year old now at the parks except for when we are leaving...and he's not close to being fully potty trained now. We use the heavy underwear and rubber pants but no diapers.

Whew! I was concerned that after I wrote that people might think I was serious.

WOW! No way would I go back to diapers for my potty trained 5yo. If I even think the line for a ride is going to be long, I take him the bathroom BEFORE we get in line. Just take a little bit of planning. Sounds like lazy parents.

No, I would never put my kids that age back in diapers. I did consider pull ups for my 4 year old during our March trip. He had been potty trained for a year. But, during out trip last Oct (he was potty trained for over 6 months at that point), he wet his pants about 4 times in 3 days, and pooped in them once. It was horrible. So, when we went back 5 months later we thought about pull ups. But, we didnt do it, and he didnt have any problems. We did get out like about a dozen times to use the bathroom, but we just dealt with it. It's part of taking young ones to the park.

I could see putting a toddler in a pull up if he/she was prone to accidents or could not hold it until you reached a bathroom.

Otherwise, I think it would be confusing or even embarrasing to put a fully toilet trained child in diapers. What do you say? "Mommy I have to go to the bathroom." "Its OK, just go in your pants!"  . Maybe we should diaper all the adults too. Then, we would never have to worry about asking where the bathrooms are!!
