View Full Version : Trips to Tokyo Disney...
How much does it cost to fly out to TD for a week (flight/room/tickets the whole thing)? I looked at thier site, did not find vacation packages.... (I would like to check out the rest of Tokyo of course while I am there... so keep that in mind ;))
stan4d_steph 09-30-2006, 08:06 PM Not sure about package deals, but I like to use kayak.com to get an idea of plane ticket costs.
Tink's Hairdresser 09-30-2006, 08:52 PM As far as I know, Tokyo Disney doesn't so much run packages for Americans. Sometimes outside companies put things together, and they usually run towards deluxe choices and cost about $3500 per person.
Now, you can save some money if you don't need to stay onsite. I looked at Expedia.com for flight + hotel packages, and saw some pretty decent deals, with a range of hotel choices in the city. For instance, a week at the New Otani plus air from San Francisco, for about $1250 per person, for 2 going together. I stayed at that hotel and it's a great one, all you're giving up versus onsite is the Disney theming and location.
The city hotels can somewhat be judged by how close they are to Tokyo Station, because from there it's only about 20 minutes to the parks. New Otani is about 20 minutes from Tokyo Station, so it's possible to get closer, and also some parts such as Shinjuku are somewhat further.
Adding $130 for a 3-day pass, and $100 for transport to and from the airport, plus all Tokyo trains and maybe an occasional taxi, we have $1480, and now add 2 $60 tours of Tokyo from Sunrise Tours, we have $1600 per person. Add 7x$65/day for food and we get $2055.
Then really close to the parks but not Disney-run are the Sheraton and Hilton, which probably will run somewhat more unless you can find an air+hotel package for them. Their proximity to the parks is pretty comparable to the Swan and Dolphin in Florida.
So those are some ballpark figures of what's doable.

DH and I stayed at the Hilton and LOVED it. It's walking distance (across the street) from the monorail station, so THAT was cool getting to take that everyday to TDL.
I highly recommend the Hilton. Of course, he made the arrangements, so I don't know how much we paid. Besides it was 2 years ago, so YMMV.
fxeditor 10-13-2006, 06:41 PM TDL Dosen't have packages. You may be able to find something through a Japanese travel agency like JTB. Since you didn't say where you'll be flying from It's hard to tell you what your flight costs would be but check with the Japanese carriers like JAL or ANA. I know that flights to Narita (Tokyo's airport) run around $700 round trip. I also agree about the Tokyo Bay Hilton. Although it's not as cool as staying at the Mira Costa (really only worth the money if you get a bay view room) it's a vrey nice hotel and is about $200 a night cheaper. That can pay for a lot of Gyoza sausage rolls at THS! ;)
Hope this helps a little.

Hey, good info... I would be coming from SO CAL, so, probably out of LAX .... how long does a flight take to Tokyo? Please tell me the seats are not as small as slights inside the US (went to WDW, and there was a narrow isle, and 3 tiny seats on both sides .... very cramped... very uncomfortable for the and 5 hours flights (4 hours to FL, 5 back)....
Anyone have pics of how big/cramped the seats are? A plane full of people seating in the seats would probably help!
Well, it looks like it's a ***12*** HOUR FLIGHT! How do you survive that long of a flight?! Do you just sit in your seat for that 12 hours?!
Tink's Hairdresser 10-14-2006, 12:02 AM It's not a flight, it's a day. I'm not trying to be flip, that was my honest reaction when I went last fall.
You break it up into chunks, and you definitely don't sit there all the time. You will see lots of people getting up and strolling the aisles, in fact it's very important for your circulation.
You are watching a movie, then you're listening to music, then you're eating a meal, then you're reading a book, etc. BTW if you have noise-canceling headphones, they're worth bringing.
I flew Japan Air Lines and recall that seat size was pretty average. Much better to have an aisle seat than a window. Plane will likely be large, with sets of seats on both sides and a bunch in the middle. Middle area is actually a little more likely to give you an empty seat nearby.
Iceman 10-14-2006, 06:30 PM I would never, NEVER take that trip in coach. On many airplanes and airlines, the seats are the same size you remember from your trips to Orlando. Even on the nicer ones, coach seats are still unacceptable places to be for that long!
fxeditor 10-15-2006, 09:15 PM Unless you are over 200lbs coach is usable. The flight is 12 hours to Tokyo and about 9 hours from. This sounds long until you do the LA to Sydney flight (15 hours). If you survive that one you can do anything! If you can get upgraded to business class by all means do it but really if you pick the right airline (I like ANA) coach is liveable.
Oh, by the way, plan to add at least an hour and a half after you land in Narita depending on how you actually get to Tokyo Disneyland. I like the train but there are busses that go there as well.
Good luck,
Michael
