I haven't even bothered to watch this season. I tried, but ugh.
Thank goodness it has been put out of it's misery.
Of course I will buy this season the day it comes out on DVD.

Is anyone really surprised?
Adrienne
I would like all my shows to go on forever so I can live vicariously through the characters so while i am not surprised, I am bummed!

I agree, June, that it has been limping along. It was funny...I hadn't read about the change in the writing staff, but when the season started, I was like, "WHAT IS WRONG?! THIS STINKS!" so we looked it up.
I have to say, they pulled it together enormously as the season went on, but it was PAINFUL for weeks and weeks...
Now that they are getting some momentum back, I am sorry to see it go. Too many storylines not tied up. If anyone here was also a fan of Judging Amy, then you are feeling my pain--all that build up, for no resolution is awful!

FWIW, the WB intended to drop it last year. But when they finalized the UPN merge and became the "CW" they ended up a bit short on programming and so gave "Gilmore Girls" another season.

I was surprised at Rory's answer but I am happy with it! I just wish they had been planning to end the show. I worry it will end with this cliffhanger never to be answered.

Did this episode ever air in LA?
Channel 5 covered the Griffith Park Fire instead of airing the show :(
Will you do a brief recap in a spoiler box? Please?

Okay.... I have it on my Tivo. Too bad there is not a way to zap it to you!!
It was Rory's graduation. Her grandparents threw her this party (of course!) It was a whole bunch of old DAR people. Christopher came and he and Lorelai had a nice conversation about Rory. At the party, Logan proposed in front of everyone. She took him outside and told him she had to think about it.
They didn't show much of the actual graduation. There was a nice moment where Lorelai and Emily were fighting about what Rory should say. Richard stopped them, took the camera from Lorelai and told her to just enjoy the graduation. It was as much a tribute to Rory as it was to her. (he took the pic- in case you were worried! ) After the ceremony Rory went and talked to Logan. She told him no. She said she liked having her life in front of her and wanted to make her own choices. He said it had to be all or nothing, she held her ground and said no.
Back in Stars Hollow, the town was upset because they could not get tickets to the graduation. They decided to have a re-inactment in Town Square. I am guessing that will be the next episode. Meanwhile, Kurt decided to create this plastic box thing to stay in ala David Blaine. It hung over the street near Luke's.
Speaking of Luke, he bought Rory some earrings from his sister. The whole town was abuzz about Lorelai's song. Luke heard her tell Patty "It meant nothing" and got hurt. He bought Lorelai a necklace as well, but decided not to give it to her. In the preview for next weeek, they menioned that it was the last episode and showed Luke and Lorelai kissing. I suspect that will be the very end of the episode and we will be left forever hanging!

I was totally fine until they pulled up to the tent in the rain. (That's not a spoiler.) That's when I started to lose it. Thankfully, Taylor's speech helped keep them down a bit.

I'm sure it was. The wiping of the amniotic fluid really put it over the top.

Yeah. I liked the whole last 15 minutes very much.

I did too. I wondered if it was supposed to end before that with the cliffhanger and then they added that last part in. I had heard though that Alexis Bledel had refused to shoot even one more episode. I find that a little hard to believe since this was such a good ending.
I was like "Emily let the man speak!!" through my blubbering during that part.
I started getting weepy as soon as Luke went to see Suki!

I also loved that Lorelai agreed to continue Friday night dinners

I really enjoyed the episode. I had to make sure I watched it last night so I wouldn't have to avoid this thread!
I thought it was a fitting tribute to the series, and didn't leave too many loose ends.
And the beginning with the guest at the Inn was pretty classic 'Gilmore Girls'!

So much was wrapped up, it really felt like an ending. I was like, "Are they sure they didn't know they were ending the series when they shot this episode?" Because they claimed they didn't...but it was so completely "bye bye Stars Hollow", not just a happy sendoff for Rory... Do you know what I mean?

I thought the same thing. It was such a good ending that they must have had an idea the end was coming. My sister and I were talking and we said maybe they had shot two versions of the episode- one more cliffhanger type with the Luke and Lorelai kiss and one to end the series.

I don't believe that anyone really thought they were coming back next year.
They may have given it lip service for marketing purposes? Or just to see what the reaction would be? But I don't think they seriously considered it.
That's just my feel.

Well, the group of tables I favor at lunch are directly across from Stage 18 (I think's it's 18 anyway) which is where they shot Gilmore Girls. I watched them hauling out the last of the detritis and there was a guy putting a fresh coat of white paint on the parking turtles that said "Gilmore Girls" this morning and the "Stars Hollow" sign on the school on the back lot is missing. I was actually thinking of you all...
If they were thinking of doing another season it looks like they decided no.

I don't believe that anyone really thought they were coming back next year.
The only reason I think they were not 100% that they were not coming back is because there was no hype. I was sucked in by the yearlong "Countdown to Goodbye" on 7th Heaven- which was only a countdown to the first goodbye as it turned out, but I digress. But, with the way the episode ended up it seems hard to believe that they did not at least have a strong hunch they would not be coming back. Maybe they filmed it as shown and figured they could reshoot some stuff if they were picked up and wanted to do another season.
TLMT- so..... did you swipe me some Stars Hollow stuff?:p
