View Full Version : I joined a tri-club
Well, based on all of the motivation from othe rpadders about my cycling and weight loss, I finally decided to step it up to the next level, and I joined a local triathlon racing club. I have also signed up for my first tri on April 29, 2007. I am still trying to decide which one to do that day:
Olympic distance - 1.5k swim - 40k bike - 10k run
Sprint distance - .5 mile-swim, 16-mile bike, 4-mile run
Super sprint distance - 500 meter swim - 8 mile bike - 2 mile run
I am leaning towards the Olympic distance or the Sprint. The super sprint seems too short; however, the 10k run seems like a lot. I have done 1-mile open water swims before, and the bike is not a problem at that distance. Maybe I should start with the sprint.
Anyone else do TRIs?
Anyway, I somehow bruised my knee while at DLR this weekend. Combination of a lot of extra walking carrying kids and new sandals that have less arch support and are not broken in. Pretty stupid on my part. Doctor said to stay off of the bike until my charity ride this Saturday, and I should be fine. I am going to start swimming this week to get back into the habit.
Disneygirl65 09-20-2006, 03:20 PM I'd start with the sprint. It will leave you something to build on.
How was Disneyland? I'm going in 10 days for a quick weekend. :)

It was insanely busy on the weekend. All of the runners and their families hanging out. For example, PotC had the full queue open on both sides, and they even put the ropes out in the front so you had ten minutes or so in line before going under the bridge out front. Everyone seemed to leave Sunday afternoon, as there was a noticible drop off Sunday night. Monday was pretty empty, typical off-season day.

A 10K run is only 2 miles longer than a 4 mile run. Considering the other distance increases, you'll be fine with this run. Of course, it's always good to start with a sprint distance race if it'll be your first one, but if you want to do the Olympic, don't let the run distance stop you.

So you think the crowds were becasue of the run?
I saw you posted your sister's time, but did you run??

I did not run. Still too out of shape to run. My doctor advises against it since I have had my knee reconstructed, and the extra impact from being overweight would be detrimental. He wants me to start walking now, and ease into running as the weight comes off. He sees no problem with me running the tri in april, as long as I lose 30 pounds or so by then.
I do think the crowds were because of the run, but that is just my opinion.
