View Full Version : So how 'bout that new Knott's Coaster justagrrl 05-11-2002, 08:09 AM Anyone excited and planning on going to Knott's soon? Be sure and let us know how it is. (it's opening in a week or so isn't it?) HTHBellcaptain 05-11-2002, 08:59 PM What type of coaster is it? Darkbeer 05-11-2002, 11:04 PM Looks like a June opening....they are auctioning off the first rides in support of the Boys and Girls Club of Buena Park... you can check out the latest photos, plus find out how to bid on the auction at... www.westcoaster.net DBJ 05-13-2002, 07:58 AM Looks like a good way to burn off a "sick day"! The coaster trains look pretty cool as well. With this ride, it should split the crowds in the park, making lines shorter on Ghostrider. Also, I am hoping Perilous Plunge re-opens soon. Have anyone heard the rumor of Hammerhead and Boomerang being removed from the park? Wackokid 05-13-2002, 10:47 PM I don't think they are removing anything... coronamouseman 05-15-2002, 03:56 PM Xcelerator looks pretty awesome from just outside the park ...... Looks like the Cedar Point guys (owners of Knott's) are really making good on their promise not to be outdone for thrill rides in their area - you have to go to MM to find something as wild as Xcelerator .......... DBJ 05-16-2002, 11:51 AM The amazing thing about Knott's Vs. it's local neighbor DCA, is that DCA started with a huge budget. Could DCA have surpassed the thrills offered at Knott's? Easily. Instead, DCA went the opposite direction and failed to create better rides than Ghostrider, Supreme Scream, and now XCl....etc. The only "thrill" ride at DCA better than the thrill rides of Knott's is Grizzly Rapids. Too bad. If Disney actually asked Intamin to create one of their wood coasters, instead of California Screaming, as well as some of their other major rides (Cedar Point's Millenium Force, SFOG's Acrophobia just to name 2), DCA could have surpassed Knott's for thrills. A true lost opportunity. coronamouseman 05-16-2002, 07:51 PM DBJ: Good point, but with TOT on the way and with RnR Coaster waiting in the wings (potentially) Disney probably figured all along that they would stick with their "family plan" and franchise attractions rather than just build outdoor and relatively "unthemed" coasters like Knott's Xcelerator which are the domain of the younger set (don't know how many 50+ types are going to ride Xcelerator?) So viva la difference and let's hope Knott's always considers themselves second best on the block and keeps rolling out those $21.95 coupon deals at the local fast food joints all year long! Gauchograd99 05-20-2002, 08:33 PM I took a good look at it from the skytower a couple weeks ago and it just does not impress me too much. There really is not much to the coaster and I am not one to wait in a 2 hour line for a simple 60 second ride. There need to be more elements to the ride to have me drooling over it. Oh well... they tried and it does fill in a lot of dead space (no pun given the local being close to Perilous Plunge). dizneelover 05-21-2002, 12:24 AM is anyone bidding? I AM!! Darkbeer 05-21-2002, 01:04 AM I also have placed some of my hard earned money to take one of the first rides on this AWESOME looking roller coaster... I am looking forward to meeting Dizneelover and anyone else who has decided to donate to a couple of worthy causes..... Maybe Dizneelover and I can chat after our first ride, while standing in line for our SECOND ride of the night :D dizneelover 05-22-2002, 03:23 PM Maybe! I was about to bid and now my parents are being all hesitant about it. I'm trying to talk them into it! I am SOOO looking foward to riding that coaster! |
