pisces 09-09-2006, 01:44 PM Opening Day, Friday September 8, 2006
Here's some of my photos:
http://pisceslibra.smugmug.com/gallery/1871343/1/94105250
.....I also have a few added to my Flicker gallery down below!
They have snowstorms every hour on the hour, fireworks at 10:00 pm, the cows, the barn, over 200 food stalls....
It is beyond anything I've ever seen.
I'll have more pictures, later on, and more to say.
Traffic everywhere....Fairplex Drive is a virtual standstill, and Kellogg was closed off!
newhdplayer 09-09-2006, 05:21 PM But, Do they have "fried "anythings""?
nursemelis374 09-09-2006, 11:47 PM The opening night traffic is always the worst! Admission is only 1 dollar so everyone comes. On the other nights traffic is much better.
We are going on Thursday!
disneyroxxx 09-10-2006, 12:00 AM i hate fairs. i never go, except for the vip passes when bands come. other than that, barely. i feel bad for the animals. all just waiting to be killed. that poor pig. how would you feel, being skewered and baked just for people to eat you and never think about you. youd just be forgotten, someone's snack for three bucks.
as you can see, im an animal rights activist.

Yep, those pigs sit around thinking, "Someday I'm go to be killed, put on stick, put in an oven and then eaten. Boy do I hate when my day goes like that."
Meanwhile the cows are thinking, "If there's one thing I hate is winding up as a Happy Meal. It's one thing to become a steak at Morton's, but it's another to become a stupid hamburger packed with another toy promoting the latest Disney movie. And some of my fellow cows wind up promoting Polly Pockets. I hope I at least get the Disney promo month."
In fact, if you watch California TV, you get an even more accurate view of cows in the Calfornia cheese commericials. As these spots prove, and you probably already know, cows can not only think, but they in fact talk to each other!
But then we already knew farm animals can talk from the movie Babe.
As you can see I'm an animal eater.

Cows can't talk...Haven't you seen the new "D A I R Y" commercials with the aliens looking for the "Elixir"? No bovine conversation there.
Back to the fair.
I love meat, and I wear leather.

Maybe they just don't like talking in front of aliens. They know what the aliens want and they're saving it just for their friends--the earthlings.

I agree with you. And, I'm not an activist. That felt totally wrong. I feel bad showing the picture....but not showing it, then people won't see the horror, and won't know that it's going on.
It's hard to look at that photo. Also some of the pigs that are in the pen....and some of the cows all locked up....the rabbits that are caged without room to turn around in.....
I saw a lot of cruel and barbaric stuff going on.
Not talking about it, and NOT photographing it......doesn't help.
Overall the Fair was a good experience, but the mistreatment of animals....not letting em roam.....killing 'em....makes me wonder if I should go back, and I am wanting to go back a second time.
I hate supporting animal mistreatment, though.

I think you're right. The bovines have our best interests at heart:)

I would get in contact with our local ELF chapter. Maybe they can stage a raid and release all the captives into the urban environment, where they'll be much happier and free. They can forage on the I-10 medians, and then chow down on the I-60 sound suppression shrubbery.
I still like meat...

very mature. i didnt say animals talk. they have feelings too, you know. but, i guess it seems like you dont, so i can see why you say that.

You say they have "feelings too." I assume you're not talking about feelings as touch or pain, (which is certainly true) but as emotional feelings. Can you please cite any scientific studies that affirms this conclusion?
Do they feel love, hate, jealousy, etc.? Or do they just feel bad that, "...they will be forgotten after...being killed and baked?" Or do they feel disappointment that as a snack they are only worth "three bucks"?
Just what "feelings" does a pig have?
newhdplayer 09-10-2006, 05:51 PM . they have feelings too, you know. .
Huh?
potzbie 09-10-2006, 08:38 PM I went last year.
Man, if it weren't so hot, and if I had some endurance, I would have stayed longer.
All that walking. It tires me out.
Isn't it funny that food tastes better with a county fair underneath your feet?
Food is now one of my favorite things I look forward to.

You won't get tired if you stay in the cool barn, out of the sun. You can literally stay in the barn all day, it is huge and there are places to sit....and it's shadier over on that side.
I'm talking about this area, here:
http://pisceslibra.smugmug.com/photos/94105239-L.jpg
There's more shade over that way.
Anyway, as for the food: There's 280 different food vendors on over 480 acres!
If you can deep-fry it, smoke it, or put it on a stick.....They've got it:
deep-fried artichoke hearts
deep-fried avocados
deep-fried twinkies
deep-fried snickers ice cream bars on a stick
pork chops on a stick
deep-fried corn-on-the-cob
smoked corn on the cob
fried chicken and glazed krispy kreme donut sandwiches with honey
ten pound buns
egg rolls on a stick
apple fries
australian potatoes
all manner of smoked gigantic turkey legs
oreo yizzards (spin-off of the Dairy Queen Blizzard)
macaroni and cheese on a stick
free beer tasting (if you can find a seat at the bar)
egg rolls on a stick...
plus much much more!
I'm really thinking of going back this Friday. I like Fridays because it's not too crowded in the morning, yet they stay open till 12, but you only have to pay weekday prices.
adriennek 09-11-2006, 08:45 AM Re: animals at the Fair -
Maybe it's because I was in 4-H that I notice these things, but did you ever notice that the animals owners are right there with them? They practically camp out in the barns to make sure their animals are tended to and to answer people's questions about them.
I'm not sure I'd be willing to tell someone who's sitting in a pile of straw and shoveling dung all day that they're abusing their animals.
As you can see, I've been an animal caretaker.
Adrienne
nursemelis374 09-11-2006, 09:15 AM Adrienne took the words right out of my mouth. We always stop by the barns and the best part is speaking with the caretakers. I think nobody loves or cares for animals more than these people.
I love all the animals, both to look at and to eat.
I can not wait for my PigglyWigglys and ten pound bun!
The old man 09-11-2006, 10:06 AM And I want to make it clear that I am against animal abuse--which I define as causing unnecessary pain and suffering. However I do not consider the eating of them to be one of the definitions of animal abuse. Nor do I believe that they have "feelings."
