Hi Everyone,
I am looking for sugguestions / feedback on GPS systems for a car. While I am looking for a decent one for my WDW trip next fall, my main reason for getting one is that GusDaughter has gymnastics competitions all over the state. Thought having one would make things a little easier since some of these places can get hard to get to.

I was thinking of the Magellan Roadmate series since I know they are somewhat similar to the same Neverlost systems that Hertz uses. At the same time, I hope to find one that uses an external antenna so that I can mount the unit around the console, rather than up on the top of the dash.

Anyone have any comments / sugguestions /experiences that you could share?

Thanks in advance!
Have a great one!
-Gus

I believe some of the Garmin StreetPilot units have external antenna connections...dunno about the TomTom and Lowrance units. Wish I could offer more suggestions but since both of my vehicles have factory navigation, I haven't had a need to purchase a portable unit...although, once in a while I'll hook up my Garmin iQue 3600 (Palm OS PDA w/ built-in navigation, which I bought long before buying my two nav-equipped vehicles) to use as a secondary nav display (it does offer some features I find useful that the factory nav doesn't have) in my vehicle. It has a built-in antenna but the gain on it is lousy for in-vehicle use so I attached an amplified external low-profile antenna to it (imagine that--a PDA w/ an external antenna connector!); boy does that external antenna make a huge difference in satellite acquisition and signal reception!
