Just thought I would start a thread for venting about anything exercise related. Yesterday, I had some problems at work with a contractor shutting off our power at a time other than what we agreed to. Rather than make a bad siutation worse, I decided to get on my bike and ride for a while to simmer down. As I hit a pothole that I somehow didn't see, I heard this weird noise that I hadn't heard before. Suddenly my pedaling becomes a little more difficult, and I hear the sound of my rear wheel rubbing against the brake pad. I figured the jar to the wheel from the pothole must have messed up the tension on the spokes. So, I pull over and grab my spoke wrench to attempt a crude re-truing of my wheel. Well, unfortunately the sound I heard was that of one of the spokes snapping at the hub. Crap. I took it slow and easy and was able to ride home ok. I called my local bike repair guy, and he is going to come out tonight to replace the spoke and re-true the wheel. However, he might not have a spoke short enough. (I have a hybrid shifting system with components in the center hub. This makes the hub larger, and in turn, the spokes shorter. Well, there went my ride I had planned for today. I'm keeping my fingers crossed he has the right size so that I can ride tomorrow. My sister was planning on taking me over to the foothills to try some climbing.

I dropped my iPod yesterday. I've hade my faithful pink mini for 3 years and haven't had a single problem with it. Yesterday for the first time I dropped it as I was finishing my morning walk/run. I always hold my iPod even though I have an arm band and a clip--I'm just used to it after all these years (and I frequently change playlists, shuffle, etc.). Now the bass is really fuzzy and the little piece at the bottom of the iPod (the plastic part around the "port" where you plug it in to charge/download) came off. I could still use it this morning, but it's not the same. Listening to music is the one thing that will get me out of the rack and into running shoes at 6 a.m. I may just have to bite the bullet and get a new one. But, I have to buy new running shoes this weekend so it's already a spendy month.
