Millions of people HATED DCA before it opened and still HATE the place today...
Millions? Before the park opened? (Or even after it opened). Please cite where your statistics come from.

Hmmm... No matter hard I try, MadasaHatter, I just can't get my arms around that statement. I'm not nearly the DCA-basher that many people are, but there's absolutely nothing in DCA that's like Epcot. They both have the Soarin' attraction, but that's it.

Perhaps you are referring to the planned "WESTCOT" park. That entire concept was scrapped in favor of DCA. I'm not aware of a single thing from WESTCOT surviving in DCA.

I went to the world showcase at WDW and it reminded me VERY much of DCA especially originally. There were NO CHARACTERS at DCA and liquor was sold and there were more features that were educational etc. Robert Mondavi had a huge battle with Disney because theses things were promised to them as a sponsor. Disney was losing money so they moved the ELECTRICAL PARADE and the costume characters came....they took out the adult themed SOAP OPERA thingy and replaced it with that KIDS SHOW....I don't know thename but it is in the entrance to HOLLYWOOD back lot.

So yes I know that WESTCOT was scrapped but it has always seemed like CALIFORNIA SHOWCASE to me. It really still reminds me of EPCOT. Sorry. Just my opinion. Remember, I AM mad as a hatter.

You can read about the big Mondavi dispute I am sure ( I live in SF so that was big news what with WINE being a big deal up here.)by digging on line. It was very ugly. Cheers!!!

I guess it is not technically funny, but my wife got sick (talking green in the face) after riding the ferris wheel (the cars that don't slide). I'm kind of a roller coaster junky, so this hit me real funny. She didn't laugh though. I didn't ride it then because the little girl wanted to play boardwalk games (for that matter, I guess I have never ridden it).:)

I got really sick on it too! And it wasn't funny. Took about a 1/2 hr to recovoer. It's so weird because I love roller coasters, can go on anything and never get sick, and never get car sick or sea sick, but something about the slow swinging...ugh, I'm gettin queasy just thinking about it! I don't even like to look at the Sun Wheel now! haha

It's an exaggeration... obviously.

But being as DL got almost 15 million in 2001 and it's first DCA got barely
5ish and 9 out of every 10 posts everywhere Disney was brutally slamming a place millions hadn't even been to yet like DCA somehow pushed their mom down a flight of stairs..
I would say millions is a low estimate. :)

We rode it once during our March trip. Once was enough. I'll never feel the need to stand in a 45 min. line to ride it again. It just wasnt thrilling enough for the long wait. The view at night is very nice though!

So give DCA a chance. They are going to have candy corn letters soon....HOT!!!

I thought this topic was about the SUN WHEEL, not DCA. Nobody really was complaining about DCA. (in this thread anyway).

I like DCA. It's a nice break from the crowds at DL and they have some more intense rides.

I agree. I didn't intend to bash DCA. I just don't think it's anything like Epcot.

Loading an unloading is bad. The legnth of the ride is worse. But overall I love it.

Your dead wrong, that's no where near how many people Disneyland had that year.

There might be some confusion here...

The 2001 Amusement Business Attendance estimates had the Magic Kingdom in Florida getting almost 15 million (14,700,000).

Disneyland in Anaheim had 12,300,000 in 2001.

But if you add in the 5 Million folks that visted DCA, you have over 17 million folks visting the Disneyland Resort in 2001, prior to counting the visitors that just went to Downtown Disney for the day (or part of it).

It was an estimate. Which exactly what Amusement Business numbers are.
They certainly aren't official.

And the correct word you were looking for is you're, and it really did not have to be blurtered out so incredibly rudely.

Ferris wheels are evil instruments of the devil.

I second that! I am a roller coaster fan and a downhill skier and I can't handle the little locked rotating cages. Ack!

The correct spelling of the word is "blurted."

i once rode the zipper at a county fair, and i guess someone wasnt feeling too well, because suddenly that person threw up, a lot. got on everybody on that ride. but during the time, he was at the top, and leaning down, and i was right behind, looking up at him, then he....you know what happened. i got the worst of it.

so now i dont go on those anymore, or ferris wheels. although the swinging carts on the sun wheel do seem like a lot of fun :D
