I thought I'd mention a couple of rides I'm doing that some of you in NorCal might be interested in.

First is our club Labor Day ride in San Francisco and Marin County. We are taking our bikes on BART to the Embarcadero station, which will put us at the Ferry Building around 9 AM. From there we will ride to Tiburon along the bay and across the Golden Gate Bridge. This is a "tourist pace" ride, meaning we will stay close together and stop frequently to regroup or take pictures, etc. We plan to have lunch in Tiburon and return to SF on the Blue and Gold Ferry that departs Tiburon at 2:35. The cost of the ferry ride is $8.50 which can be paid on the boat.

The second ride is the Modesto cancer awareness ride (http://www.memorialmedicalcenter.org/images/Ride%20Registration.pdf) on Saturday, September 16. This is a "metric century" (That's about 63 miles.) sponsored by the Modesto Memorial Hospital Cancer Center. The cost is $40 in advance or $45 the day of the event, and shorter rides are available. The fee includes rest stops and SAG support, as well as a barbecue by Outback Steakhouse at the end.

Aside from the benefits of riding, these are both fun outings. It would be great to meet up with padders at either one. Send me a PM if you plan to be there and would like to exchange cell numbers.

Despite having no TMP members (except me) on Monday's ride, it looks like we'll have a nice little group going.

TrekkieDad,

I would love to join you but I will be at Disneyland for the 1/2 marathon weekend. ;)

The cancer awareness ride went well. I rode with several club members and I averaged 17.9 mph over 65 miles. The route was flat but windy. For the short time we had the wind at our backs, we cruised at over 30 mph, about as fast as I can pedal on that bike.
