I was playing around at MSN and found this interesting tid bit about outragoues perks for Company CEO's. While it doesn't mention his name I thought it was quite interesting.

From MSN.com:
A new president at Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide (HOT, news, msgs) will get $1.5 million for airfare during his first year on the job. The money is meant to help him commute to work in New York so he can keep his home in California while his son finishes high school there.

Well that new president is none other than Matt himself. No wonder he jumped ship over there. :)

Mods, if this post is in the wrong section, I am sorry it was just an interesting peice of info I found.

$700,000 annual salary paid semi monthly is a huge junk of change. I'm guessing he didn't come even close to making that at Disney. I'd go as far to say I bet he didn't even clear the $300,000 mark there.

No its no mystery how Starwood lured him away from Disney.

Never seen the amount Matt got paid...

But when Jack Falfas was the VP of Cedar Fair (West Coast, in charge of Knott's and Soak City's) his base salary was just over $500,000.

My guess, Matt's salary was around a million per year for running Disneyland.

I doubt it was quite so high as $1 million since that would have put him above every senior exective except Eisner and Iger.

And Ouimet isn't "getting" $1.5 million. He will be reimbursed for up to $1.5 million in travel expenses. So it isn't like he can pocket the money and start flying coach. And considering his hotels are all over the world I expect he'll do a lot more than $1.5 million in travel directly charge to Starwood anyway.

The other relocation details seem pretty standard for senior executive offers.

Alex, read the SEC filing, he gets $700,000 guaranteed, and the expected bonus is around $700,000, plus or minus how the company does, plus he gets the free airfare, and then...

He gets a $2.5 million equity bonus for getting hired....(Contract is for about 5 years)

A $705,000 signing bonus (in stock)

A home buy out option so he can move to White Plains, New York

Sounds like a lot more than a $1 million a year until his contract runs out in March of 2010.

I am glad he is doing so well. He seemed like a really great guy who also understood how to run a business.

I did read the SEC filing. He is definitely getting more than $1 million a year for a while.

He isn't "getting" $1.5 million for air travel as the MSNBC article says. What he is getting is reimbursement of his commuting expenses. Which are much higher than most people's commuting expenses. What surprises me is that this is being reimbursed instead of just directly paid for by Starwood through their corporate travel department.

I don't really consider reimbursed airfare for travel he wouldn't be doing if it weren't for the new job to be a form of personal enrichment. Anymore than if I got a new job that reimbursed my BART tickets. Now, if this $1.5 million can be used towards any travel he might do I would think differently. What seems slightly odd is that there is a six month gap between when the travel reimbursement ends and when he is committed to having moved.

But yes, he definitely has a sweet deal. At least assuming that Starwood stock performs and keeps the healthy stock bonuses and grants above water.
