and wristband system at DL?
I was there 2 weeks ago when they were trying out their new system and something is wrong with it. They measure the child with a paddle thing that flashes a color to indicate what rides the child can ride.
My dd is tad over 40 inches, (we have measured and remeasured her at home) yet the system said she wasn't tall enough for any rides with height requirements on the first measure (that would make her under 35") and on the second she wasn't 40". I gave up after that. When she stands in lines and gets measured they let her on everytime because she reaches the line.
We are going back next week, I bought her some taller shoes, I'm hoping to get the wristband for her to avoid the measuring, and remeasuring detail.

I have not used it myself. I thought it was supposed to be exceptionally accurate - what with "technology" and all. Guess they still have some bugs to work out. Maybe they are pointing it at the wrong spot - or have the "zero" part calibrated wrong or something. I dunno.
My little guy has gotten very used to standing up to be measured...at 3 1/2 he's right there...but we've gone often enough now that it's not a problem...just used to it I guess.
I also wonder what he would think of having to wear to a wristband all day. He may not be particularly happy about it...you know kids...odd things drive them nutso. My ds can't stand the tags in the back of his shirt...so I wonder if he would be contrary to a bracelet.
What are they made of anyway? Plastic? Or those papery ones?

I believe they are plastic, not paper ones. I'd personally rather not deal with the measuring and remeasuring in the lines (it can happen up to 3 times). Also, the jumping jellyfish operators are the worst, they are almost mean about it.

I had quite an experience with the system, and I was told by a CM that yes, mistakes can be made if the CM is holding the paddle at any sort of angle.
I won't say too much more, since it did happen when they first started the program, just take a look at the 2 threads when you get a chance.

Thanks for the links, now I know they are still having problems with their system based upon my experience.

When we we were there in Dec. or Jan. we tried the new measurement system and I actually preferred it to the sign measurements. We did notice that there was 1 CM who seemed to be trained on the device and 2 others that were not. They were getting their training from the other guy as parents were bringing their kids to be measured. As long as Disney trains their CM's how to operate the devices I think it will be better than the signs.
I dislike the signs because when my son was right at 40'', there seemed to be disparities at BTM whenever we tried to ride it and more times than not we were turned away. It is upsetting when at 40'' he is so tall he can't walk under the sign at Space and Splash without hitting his head and then at Thunder he can't reach the sign. My husband and I have thought that maybe it is because of the way the ground is laid at Thunder and it's uneven in its measurement. I don't know but I like the universal measurement idea so you don't have to continually measure and then try to figure out why he was 40'' at SM but had shrunk by the time we walked over to TM.
As for the wristbands, I would prefer a handstamp or something else because my son hates having the band on. I know a stamp can be washed off or transferred but he hates the band.
Where is the measuring system located now? When we were there it was at the info booth by the hub. Is there a measuring system in DCA now?

I have seen the bracelets a number of times and believe they are paper, but the type that doesn't get destroyed when wet. Perhaps if someone goes to the park and notices one way or the other we could get a definite answer.

I wrote a column (http://www.mouseplanet.com/akrock/ak011212.htm) about this system last December:
I was at the park on Thursday but didn't see the system being used. So far, Matthew hasn't ever been measured by it.
