Wasn't sure where else to post this...hope it's ok to do so here...

I will be flying down to the LA area in October - probably from the 4th-16th. And I am planning to do a bunch of touristy things there - like visit Hollywood - Walk of Fame, Wax Museum, Universal, Santa Monica and maybe a few other places like Chinatown...etc...

I was thinking that for that portion of my trip, it might be more benficial to stay in the vicinity of LAX or Hollywood or Universal. That way I can easily take the LA Transit and such...So I am in need of hotel recommendations. I really don't want to spent A TON of money...as I will be staying at the DLH for the last portion of my trip and that will already be a lot (8 nights there!!).

Also, any suggestions on hotels to STAY AWAY from would be additionally beneficial...

Thanks so much!!

When we stay in Hollywood, we like the Orchid Suites hotel. It's NOT fancy, but it's OK and decent. It's a converted apartment building RIGHT behind the Hollywood and Highland complex, so the location is terrific. The parking is secure, underground. The staff has always been pleasant and efficient for us, and we've stayed there several times. We would do so again!

Thanks for the info...I actually just used priceline and got the Westin Bonaventure Hotel for the four nights - first two nights at $65/night and last two nights at $55/night. Previously I had bid up to $75/night and didn't get anything. I did it for 4* in Downtown LA!! YAY! Bonaventure looks really nice!! Though after looking, I was hoping for a night or two at the Biltmore...but hey 4 Star hotel for $55-$65/night is NOT bad at all!! YAY!

Anyone know of a hotel that is within walking distance of Universal Studios City Walk and the like? I can only find the Sheraton which is WAY to pricey at $199/nt. Isn't there a Roney Palace Resort there?

Here is a tip.

The METRO "Red" line has a stop at the base of the Universal City hill, and a tram up, from across the street.
So, really, any hotel that is near the "Red" Metro line will be "walking distance," in that sense.

The HILTON and the SHERATON are the two official hotels in Universal City proper. If they are pricey, and I'm sure they are, then there is no reason not to use the public transportation of the Metro and save money that way.

Heck, the Red Metro line will get you to Disney's EL CAPITAN THEATER and GRAUMAN'S CHINESE THEATRE.
You DO want to place you hands and feet into Hollywood stars' hands and feet, don't you?
