The Themed Entertainment Association (TEA) announced that the Tokyo DisneySEA Entertainment Program is the winner of this year's THEA award.

The award is for Outstanding Achievement in Theme Park Entertainment and is rarely presented to an entire entertainment program. Tokyo DisneySEA is Disney's newest theme park in Tokyo, Japan, in partnership with Oriental Land Company. The new park is located adjacent to Tokyo Disneyland and, along with 2 new luxury hotels, constitutes the newly established Tokyo Disney Resort.

Complimenting the exceptional architecture and attractions, the entertainment program is a major feature of the new park. "Live Entertainment makes this park unique and the entertainment program was conceived from the beginning as a critical component of the park," says Steve Hedrick, who led the entertainment development as Senior Show Producer and Project Director for Walt Disney Entertainment and is now CEO of ShoBiz Creative Entertainment Group.

The entertainment program consists of 5 major stage shows, 2 spectaculars and 28 atmosphere acts. Those who visit the Tokyo DisneySEA park can see Ariel the Little Mermaid, live. The Little Mermaid and her undersea friends sing and perform acrobatic choreography above and all around the audience. Visitors also encounter magical flying spirits in a South American Lost River Delta, take part in the launching of an oceangoing luxury liner, experience both a daytime and nighttime fireworks and fountain spectacular and walk along the shores of exotic ports-of-call where rocks and trees come to life.

Tokyo DisneySEA Entertainment won this year's THEA award for creative excellence, the innovative approach to show presentation and groundbreaking new technologies.
