Greetings,
The day of our cruise is approaching very quickly. This will be our first cruise and our whole family is very excited. We have our excursions and Palo booked! One question we had was what do you do with your passport and other items(camera etc.) while snorkeling. We are doing the Stingray encounter at Grand Cayman. We are going to purchase disposable underwater cameras for our group but also wanted to have the digital camera for before and after. Also on Castaway Cay I am guessing that we won't need our passports but what do people do with the cameras while swimming?
Thank you in advance for any help

Hi FTroop.
Im excited for you and your upcoming trip. September is a great time to go!!

As for your passports, from my own experience, you will not need to take them with you while on your shore excursions. All you will need is a government issued photo ID and your room key to get on and off the ship. I carry mine, along with a credit card and a little bit of cash in a waterproof case I carry around my neck. (Got mine on the ship but others sell them as well.) Well worth the investment as I use it all the time when I dont want to carry a wallet.

As for cameras, well, that is kinda up to you. On one shore excursion I was on, I had my digital camera with me, but in a waterproof case that I used for pictures in the water. (Depending on your camera, that may be an option.) I would keep your camera in some sort of ziplock bag (to protect from moisture and sea mist) with your towels and other personal items. There really is not much else you can do that I can think of. If you are snorkeling from a boat in the middle of the ocean, then I think you will be rather safe as if it goes missing, the suspects will be few. (Well, you know what I mean...) On Castaway Cay, well, I think the above is still good advice but you still need to be aware of your surroundings and your stuff. Just dont leave things out inviting trouble.

I hope this helps. At the same time, others may chime in with their experiences and/or advice as well.

If you have any other questions, just let us know...
