View Full Version : Toddler Napping at Parks...[WDW]
Crazy4Disney43611 07-15-2006, 10:40 AM Just curious as to if there are certain areas where one could nap a toddler at the parks when the need comes? If so would bringing a sheet or beach towel to lay in the grass be acceptable or frowned on? TIA! Sean
Drince88 07-15-2006, 10:46 AM I can't think of any areas where there's grass that isn't surrounded by fence (to keep you out of it) - but that doesn't mean there isn't any areas!
How will they be about sleeping in their reclined stroller? You could always pull that up next to a bench. (I'm assuming if they're young enough to need a nap - they'll have a stroller)
If they're going to be too interested in 'stuff' to nap in the stroller, I'm wondering if the grass would work, even?
What time of the year are you going? If it's before October, I'd recommend just going back to your room and catching a nap there -- unless you're from Florida, you'll probably want to do that, anyway, as the heat/humidity can be real strength zappers!
(And then you can go to a different park in the pm, if you have park hoppers!)
Crazy4Disney43611 07-15-2006, 10:56 AM We will be going from Feb 9 - Feb 16 and he will be turning 3 on Dec 12...I'm thinking that we would prolly rent a stroller from the park each day, I just thought that he may be more comfortable if he could lay down on the lawn. Thanks again, Sean
Mickeymac 07-15-2006, 11:10 AM Crazy, just a word of warning about letting your baby sleep on the grass. Disney is well groomed, but there's always the worry of fire ants and other nasty biting ground crawling critters. I won't let the kids run around in the grass anywhere without shoes.
Drince88 07-15-2006, 12:29 PM Glad to hear you won't be fighting the 'hot and crankies' with your little one, just the normal 'crankies'!
And although I think you've probably picked a great time to go, with the smaller crowds also means shorter hours, so you may not want to go back to your resort in the middle of the day.
If there ARE grassy areas that could be used, I doubt if Disney would have a huge issue with you using a ground cover, as long as it wasn't obnoxiously big.
jengold29 07-15-2006, 02:41 PM Sorry, but I can't imagine a 3 yo laying down on the grass (if you could find some) and napping at WDW at all.
When my dcs were still regular nappers, I'd bring my own stroller, recline and shade it, and let dc fall asleep while walking. After that age if I felt a nap was needed we'd usually go back to the room, even now at 8 and 4 we still usually take a mid-day break, especailly if a night-time show is on our agenda.
Rental strollers are hard plastic with no recline.
But you do know your child best, you picked a great week, the weather should be nice and cool and crowds low.
dsnyredhead 07-15-2006, 06:37 PM The best advice is to have a nearby hotel room that you can go back to for a few hours during the day. Otherwise, a reclining stroller. I have a Kolcraft stroller that will take kids up to 35 lbs. Unfortunately, my then three year old will probably have hit that weight limit by the next trip.
mzloolue 07-16-2006, 05:23 PM What about on the train?
There is a breeze and you don't have to get off.
karliebug 07-17-2006, 06:21 AM Why not visit one of the baby care centers? They probably have a spot for him to lie down in and it is air conditioned.
kadiehl 07-17-2006, 12:03 PM When we took our then 3 year old a couple years back, I just had an umbrella stroller and she slept as she needed to. I would look and she would just fall asleep that quick. I would then just walk around and do stuff as I waited for my son and hubby to do rides I did not want to do and then an hour later she would be awake and raring to go. I never forced her to take naps or any of that....I just let her take them as she needed them wherever we are and we kept on moving. I think I would just try to use a good stroller and let him or her sleep there.
GusMan 07-20-2006, 08:32 AM From what I have experienced...
- A stroller is just fine for napping. If you rent one, bring an extra blanket or towel to use as a cushion as they are kinda hard.
- The baby care centers are great if your little one needs a "cooler" space calm them down for a nap.
- Train rides tend to put my little guy to sleep.
- Same goes for the peoplemover over in tomorrowland.
In essence, my GusJr. tends to nap for about 2 hrs and has no problems doing so in the stroller as we walk around the parks.

If so would bringing a sheet or beach towel to lay in the grass be acceptable or frowned on? TIA! SeanThe majority of grass areas are fenced (like another poster said.) At Disneyland, it is frowned on (not sure abot WDW.) But one thing to take into consideration, service and guide dogs visit the parks in addition to the security and detection dogs. Disney informs those users where the gates are in the fences so the handlers can relieve the dogs in these grassy areas (and messes are picked up.) We have even been told to just tell a CM and they will clean up after the dog (which is not acceptable to us, WE will clean up after the dog.) So, I wouldn't consider the grass areas a place to have my toddler nap.
