We've talked about the best food one can find in WDW, I want to know what everyone avoids.

My first vote is for those horrible smoked turkey legs. The mere smell of them turns my stomach, and the sight of people wandering around knawing on bones always reminds me of cavemen.

I also don't like the frozen bananas, but I'm just anti-banana.

I don't understand the appeal of Rainforest Cafe, especially when I've heard of 2 hour waits to get it.

This is a different rant, but I find the entire menu of the Rainforest Cafe laughable. Nothing on there resembles anything you'd find in the Amazon. Not to mention there are almost no vegetarian options - one of the biggest contributors to rainforest destruction is the beef industry, which practices slash-and-burn habits to create more grazing land.

Worst restaurants
#1 easily goes to Alfredo's.
After that, the short list would be either Rainforest Cafe, and Fulton's Crab House.
There are many that I personally don't like but won't list here since it is a food preference that is behind my not liking it. Those restaurants are not good in food quality, service, and are not very clean, either.

Here is my list:

1. Alfredo's
2. Rainforest Cafe
3. Contemporary Steakhouse
4. Prime Time Cafe

I don't see anything special about the Rainforest - there was one close to where I live and it closed after a couple of years. It was not worth waiting for the one at WDW - 2 hours! But I thought it would be better there. The food was only o.k. and it was so noisy. I did like the volcano though!

I tried the food at the Sci-Fi Dine In Theater twice, and I didn't like it either time. It's been years since I've eaten there, so it might be better these days.

The last time we went to Animal Kingdom, it started raining, and we were soaked. So to get out of the rain, we ran in for a lunch at the Rain Forest Cafe. We didn't mind waiting for about 45 min., in early Nov., because outside it was raining anyway! We were seated, squished into a little table. It was freezing in there! I mean like ice! It was totally ridiculous to keep the place that cold, when it wasn't even warm outside. The food menu was silly. They tried to serve such exotic food items, or call it by unusual names, just to be unique. None of us knew what to order. The portions were very small and tasted bad and were cold. Nobody wanted to eat it. Then the bill was outrageous. Never again! I only liked the atmosphere when you could walk around. We couldn't actually see anything from our table. In my opinion, the waiters and waitresses spend way too much time acting cool and sophisticated. We would have preferred just friendly.

Rainforest is really interesting in terms of atmosphere. However what it has in mood and setting is quickly ruined by the smell of mildew.
As for the food. I've never had such bad quality food in any restaurant (and I've definitely been to some dives). Huge chunks of fat and gristle. I wouldn't eat there for free. The waiters are shady too. At least twice I've seen where they mischarged us or brought us not enough change. One even kept our credit card and we had to get a manager to have it returned. I've dined there a few times, but it's run out of chances.

I forgot to mention Sci-Fi. Their food is all so overcooked! Great atmosphere and all, but the food is just charred to near ashes and low quality.

Thanx for reminding me about the Sci-Fi. We love the atmosphere and my daughter would sit there all day in the car watching the movies, but I agree with you on the food. I ordered a burger medium/well - it was charred so bad I sent it back!

This was two years ago - I had also noticed when we walked by the Commissary afterwards (it's right next door) that their burgers and crinkle cut fries (for much less $) looked exactly the same as what we had just paid over $10 for. I'm assuming they share the same kitchen or at least food supplier.

We love the atmosphere of the Sci-Fi. We wouldn't miss it, and have to see it once each trip. We have just started ordering dessert there, like shakes. The kids used to order something with gummy worms in chocolate cake and ice cream. It's called something like "Worms in the ground", but has a cool Sci-Fi name. The girls love it. I love the desserts, and we all love just being there. So that works for us! It isn't WDW without the Sci-Fi.:D

Hey, everybody!

I'm surprised nobody's mentioned the worst source of nourishment at the WDW resort...

<drum roll>

THE WATER FOUNTAINS!!! I swear, every time my mind wanders a bit and I accidentally stoop down to take a sip from a water fountain at any WDW theme park, I immediately spit it out and search for the nearest paramedic. The only people I see who can actually stomach this poison are Florida locals. As much as I hate bottled water, it's what I have to resort to whenever I visit WDW.

Just a side note about bad food, in my family some of us have food allergies like my grandaughter (berries) and myself eggs as in omelettes. For our upcoming ten day stay we decided to forego eating out completely and booked a fully equipped kitchen one bedroom apartment at The Villas at Disney Institute, the price of the kitchen will save us a lot eating in and avoiding the dearth of poor service and food quality I have heard a lot about. We may do my b-day (dec. 5) at Wilderness Lodge as IT is highly rated and I would like very much to sample the Alaska Salmon house specialty (tee hee heee, guess where I live! yep, Alaska ):D Lets see if its as good as what I catch just up the road from me ( king salmon river, up to 85 lbs.!!!!)

I have to know what you thought was wrong with Fulton's? My lovely wife and I have eaten there twice (about two years apart) and it was fantastic both times. The wait to get in can be bad if you don't have a PS.. so make one. Besides, the appetizers in the bar are great too.

A funny story about Fulton's: The last time I went to Disney, I was with a friend of mine. I am 34. My friend is 40. While at Fulton's, I ordered an alchoholic drink. The waiter asked to see my ID. OK, I do look young for my age, but I didn't think I looked THAT young. Anyway, I showed him my NJ driver's license. However, he wasn't happy with that becasue it had no photo. Nevertheless, he said he'd get me the drink because I was there with my father, so it was OK. I laughed hysterically, but I've never seen my friend so annoyed. My friend swore he wouldn't leave a tip, but by the end, he had calmed down enough to leave one. (Other than that, the waiter did a fine job and deserved a tip.)

I liked the food, though. I had a shrimp/crab cake combo and the red velvet cake for dessert. It was all very tasty though also very pricey.

Well, I've tried to eat at Fultons 4 times. The first 2 occasions was in 96 and 97. Both times it was not busy and we were seated. The hosts/hostesses just were not Disney-like (They seemed bored and not interested in their jobs or clientele). However they did accomadate our request for a different table. Never found a table that was really clean. The first incident, we waited over 10 minutes after being seated (as I mentioned it was NOT busy) for a waiter to show. THey never did. The second time a waiter did show up after about 10 minutes and brought us water. The glasses were dirty, as was the table. We left that time as well.
Finally the third time we got food. The table still wasn't clean, but the waiter was kind of incompetent and screwed everything up. Brought the wrong food. Once it was fixed, certain details were still wrong. The fourth time the table was once again on the dirty side and the waiter was great but the food was just prepared incorrectly and seemed poor quality. Lobster was black, scallops were like leather Oh, and the meat dish was way undercooked. Normally I'd give a restaurant 3 strikes, but the first 2 times the service was so bad that I think I can make an exception.

Hi Dreamfinder's Shadow!

I read your post about Fulton's, and have to agree with you on alot of it. We have gone there about 4 times over the past few visits and probably won't go back.

The first time was pricey but the overall experience was really excellent. We had a good waiter and the food was hot and well-prepared.

Then the next time we went, it was similar to your experience. It was empty, yet we waited (and we had a priority seating) a good 20 minutes to be seated. Then there was no waiter. Then the waiter we got left alot to be desired. He would disappear for long periods of time. Then the food wasn't hot and a few of the sides were wrong. There was hardly anyone there, so go figure that one!

Well, we gave it another try cause my daughter likes it and this time they still made us wait a good 20 minutes to be seated - even though it was not at all crowded - in fact this time we were the first ones there!! It seems to me that the waiters come on duty after 5 - so why tell people you open at 5? The waiter was better and the food was very good this time.

So guess what? We went back again this last trip. Awful, awful, awful!! Again, the wait to get in cause we had to wait for the waiter to come on duty, who did the disappearing act. Then the food was cold - the soup needed to be reheated. The broiled fish was overdone. Then another attempt came back underdone! The portions were small and pricey. If the food were prepared properly, it would have been good quality.

So that's the last time we'll go there.

We tried Toy Story's Pizza Planet once and that was plenty. I've never had worse pizza. Yuck! The theming was great however. We especially loved the trash cans!

I hope this doesn't happen to your friend. My husband and I were both 30. His hair began turning silver when he came back from the army at age 22. By 30, he was totally silvery white like the comedian Steve Martin. I thought it was beautiful, no problem for me. But a friend at work remarked about a picture of us, "That's a nice picture of you and your daughter? Is she in college?" Oh, boy! Within a week, he had colored his hair back to super dark brown. That lasted probably 3 years, until I convinced him that he looked great with his natural color. At age 48 now, I still have long dark hair. This year they charged him for 1 adult and 1 student at the Highschool Football game. We just laugh about it now, but watch out for your friend. What color is his hair? Keep smiling! Pomcoach:D

I'm not sure. However, I do know his hair piece is black with some gray mixed in. :)

We tend to avoid any of the "theme" resturants at WDW and the rest of Orlando. They all seem to spen a fortune on decoarting and the few dollars they have left on food and presentation!

Bottom of the list though is the Rainforest!
We have eaten at both WDW locations, Disneyland Paris and London twice. The food was terrible on every occasion and now we finaly have given up. The last meal we had was breakfast at AK and paid over $30 for on order of Coffee and bacon and eggs and 2 orders of cornflakes and juice for my wife and daughter, this food took and HOUR to arrive despite the resturant being practically empty. The bacon and eggs were cold and coffee weak, they couldnt really get cornflakes wrong.

We have had similar experiances at Planet Hollywood London, DLParis and Orlando.

We have found both the Sci Fi diner and Moms diner (cant remembe the actual name) very overpriced and poor quality food although my dauther loves Pizza Planet. Disney Studios should get one the same as DLParis as that one is a lot of fun.

That is a good idea about ordering just dessert at the MGM themed restaurants. Never thought of that.:)

My friend's brother loves the peanut butter & jelly shakes at the Prime Time, but loathes the food. On his last trip he wanted one of those shakes, so he went into the lounge adjacent to the restaurant and ordered the shake to go. And the server did it. No problem!

I've had good meals at Planet Hollywood at Downtown Disney and terrible ones. I only went when I had the "go to the head of the line" card from Quaker Oats, which they no longer offer.

We also tried Toy Story pizza planet and the pizza was good.

You never know!

Unlike what you would expect from a restaurant at a luxury resort, the Grand Floridian Cafe has the worst food for the money in the parks.
Also, Sci-Fi Dine-In is a complete waste of money on burgers and atmosphere.
Mama Melrose's is fake Italian food for excessive amounts of money.

We ate at Mama Melroses' last April for lunch. The pizza reminded me of the Bertucci's chain. It was o.k. but nothing special. We usually try not to eat pizza at WDW because it is something that is so much better at home (being from NY) but my daughter loves it and always wants it

Does anyone know where you can find really good pizza at WDW??? Please let me know:)

I have been filled with near-ecstasy by the four-cheese pizza at Portobello Yacht Club.

We find the veggie pie at Pizza Planet in MGM is more than merely edible. It's not amazing, but it's ok for park fare.
