I'm glad to say that my Chacos and Danskos have saved me many a painful day (including long days in both parks) and don't require me to wear plastic.

Umm... I'm wearing Chacos right now and they are at least 90% plastic... so you might want to rethink that bullet point in before your next Chacos, etc. vs Crocs debate ;)

I'm just glad we live in a free market society and have so many choices!

For my trip to DLR in October I'm bringing Chacos and Saucony sneakers. I am actually thinking of getting a pair of crocs, in addition. They are soooooo comfy! I just haven't quite jumped on the bandwagon yet.

Doh! Good point. However, the plastic is under my feet...not covering them. ;)

Exactly.

Funny sidenote, my friend's mom made her hide her Keen sandals when she came to visit. Made me think of this thread.... :p

Yeah sure, Kisroo! I've spent many a night crying myself to sleep because you pick on me for my Crocs.

There, there. You can wear as many Crocs as you want, Neen. I'll just be sitting over here surfing the web for more good deals on Danskos. ;)

I am probably a little behind the times on this thread but I just wanted to chime in that I wear Teva flip flops to Disneyland all the time. They are super comfortable.

Keens

I LOVE Keens, I have a pair of maryjane black ones and a new pair of sandles so I should be set for d land. The mj's are great because they are closed toes but the sandles will be cooler

I do wish that I didn't have a permanent pain condition that is the reason for wearing Crocs. :( I'd trade away my pain for a pair of cute shoes any day. I was SO happy when I found Crocs, because when I work I am on my feet a lot and they save me. Same with walking at DL or anywhere else that I go for longer durations.

Neenie, that is the ticket. You have to go with what works for you.

I wish I didn't have to pay so stinking much for my Shox. I wish I could get away with cheaper tennis shoes. Don't let M4M hear me say that! ;)

Side note:

I was at the chiropractor the other day. I was talking to him, then he told me to roll over on my stomach on the table. I look and he is wearing Crocs! The shame! The horror! :D

I immediately thought of Barbossa, Munchkinsmom and Neenie! :D

I was laughing when I rolled over and he asked what was so funny. "Ah, nothing. Nothing you would understand!"

It's the GREAT CROC DEBATE!! :D ;)

That's too cool. Now, if they were pink Crocs, that would warrant a triple eek!

When I took DD to the doc a few weeks ago, the nurse was wearing pink Crocs (DD was wearing her bright green Crocs that day). It was definitely a nurse-patient bonding moment. :)

I just have to say...I've had my crocs now for a couple of days...wow...

I do an early morning paper route - it's mostly driving, but some walking (and lots of standing to get the papers ready), and these shoes have DEFINITELY helped my feet...I'm so excited that I might even get to set aside the ECV and WALK around at Disneyland for a few hours when I go!!!

I'm a long time lurker, but I just have to ask a question about chacos. I have, what I consider to be, fairly high arches and I like a lot of support. I normally wear Birkenstocks and Crocs (I only have red and yellow, I NEED more). I read on MP about how great Chacos are and got a pair. I love the style, but the arch is just WAY too high for me. My feet hurt after standing/walking for a few hours. Is this normal? Did I somehow get a pair that were made with an extra hgh arch and not the "regular" chacos?

Now my next shoe question - I wear a 38 in Birks, should I order the same size in Danskos. They really are cute. I live in the mountains in New Mexico and the nearest Dansko dealer is 2 hours away, so I ebay almost everything!
:fez:

TIA,

Kathleen

Welcome to the MP posting world KathleenNM!!!

Unlike Danskos, which are comfy right out of the box, there does seem to be a 'break-in' period with Chacos. I also have high arches and my arches were killing me after wearing my first pair of Chacos. But, I wore them right out of the box for a day at DCA. Not my smartest move ever. After I broke them in by wearing them around for an hour or two per day for the rest of that trip (4 days), they ended up being the most comfortable sandals I wore in the parks. Your arch does get used to it and they provide great support in my opinion. I tried my Columbia sandals the other day and my arches felt like they had fallen after wearing them for less than an hour. So, it was back to my Chacos. :)

Now my next shoe question - I wear a 38 in Birks, should I order the same size in Danskos. They really are cute.

I think I'm gonna like you!! :p Birks, like Danskos, go by Euro sizes. I wear the same size in both Birks and Danskos. However, remember that Danskos are made to be loose in the heel. It is a little weird at first to have your shoe feel like it's going to slide off, but after an hour, I got used to the feeling and my back could handle longer days just by wearing them.

If you're worried about sizing (or just want to feel what Danskos are like) here's what I would recommend. Find a Dansko dealer in your area (you can enter your city in their search on the Chaco website), go in and have them measure you, and then try a pair. Walk around in the store to see if you like them. Oh, and if you don't want to ebay it, PM me and I'll let you in on my online Dansko shopping tips. The only pair I paid full price for was my first. :D

After the break in period, I didn't wear anything else for MONTHS. (I was fortunate enough to work somewhere that I could wear them too!)

As I've probably said before, I don't see anything the least bit ugly about Crocs. Colorful, yes, earthy, yes, even deliberately inelegant, but not ugly.

What makes me shudder are (1) thongs decorated with sequins, glitter, rhinestones, &c., and (2) those <blasphemy><vulgarity><obscenity> Chinese mesh slippers, that seem to finally be starting to go away.

No, they were a "manly" color. Black, I think, or maybe charcoal gray.

It was not a doctor-patient bonding moment for us! ;)

Kisroo,

Thanks for the reply. I have been wearing the Chacos off and on for hte last two months, but they don't seem to get better. I tried a pair on at ta store and they fit great, then I got a pair of the same style and size on ebay, and the moment I put them on, they just didn't feel right. I wore them again today - I like them, but they sure aren't my most comfortable shoe.

We're headed up to Albuquerque next week on the way to go camping in Colorado, so I'll try to pop into a Dansko dealer there to try them on. I teach 8th grade Family and Consumer "Sciences" (what most of us know as Home Ec") and I'm on my feet a lot. At 42, I refuse to be uncomfortable if I don't have to be!

This turned into a thread on fashion and what shoes everyone else wears, so I'll yank the discussion back to the original question...

Take both - rent a locker and change as needed. I do this every trip and always have a dry pair of less than fashionable footwear for change after the probable soaking in Pirates, Spalsh, or Grizzly.

Sometimes the non-sandal footwear is warmer in the cooler evenings and it's nice to change.

Yes, some evenings are actually cooler...:fez:

okay. I have to admit it...Ive always hated crocs...thought they were the ugliest clown shoes, right up there with Birkenstocks...
My shoes at Disneyland are never cute, just comfy, but I could never bring myself to even consider the clown shoes...until a friend came into my boutique with her Athens sandals...she has an upscale clothing store down the street and is going to start carrying them....hmmmm I thought....they sure dont have the clown feet look to them, and then I tried them on...WOOT!! Love them!!
She wasnt getting hers in for awhile, so I ordered a pair on ebay..unfortch they are white with orange soles...yeah, not loving the orange...but cant wait to wear them to Disneyland next week...WOOT again, since they were $22 and brand new!! they are Uber comf...but Im sorry, I just dont think I could ever wear the other ones...they looks so hot and rubbery, and tho my Disneyland shoes are usually ugly, they are not as noticeably ugly as those infamous crocs!:p But to answer the poster original question, I can never wear tennies at DL...I always get blisters and my feet puff up to an attractive size..so its some kind of fugly sandal thingy in the summer, and my beloved Uggs in the winter....I even try to go up a size in tennies to the park, and my tootsies just get REALLY hot in them...even in the winter I dont like wearing tennies to DL...maybe Ive just never found the right pair, but its sure not for lack of trying, darn it!!

For all the Croc lovers out there, Disney must agree with us!:) :) :)

Crocs adds Disney line
The Denver Business Journal - 11:02 AM MDT Tuesday
Disney characters will become part of a limited edition of Crocs Inc. shoes, just in time for the 2006 holiday season.

Niwot-based Crocs (NASDAQ: CROX) announced Tuesday that the "Disney by Crocs" line will debut with Mickey Mouse die-cut Adult Beach and Kid's Cayman models. They'll be available in dual colors, including Mickey Mouse's signature black and red.

Other designs will include Mickey and Friends, Winnie the Pooh and Friends, Disney Princess, Disney Fairies, Pirates of the Caribbean, Toy Story and Cars.

An expanded product line is planned for spring 2007.

In other Crocs news, a company sued by Crocs for alleged patent infringement is fighting back.

Crocs has sued Australia Unlimited Inc., owner of Old Friend Footwear, over its Nothinz foam clog.

In response, Australia Unlimited has filed a motion with the U.S. International Trade Commission, seeking removal of Nothinz from Crocs' patent infringement claims. Australia Unlimited also seeks attorneys' fees in defending Crocs' suit.

Crocs had filed a patent infringement suit against Australia Unlimited and 10 other importers of foam clogs with the ITC and federal district court in Colorado.

LOL.. I'm really out in left-field with this one. Grew up in Cowboy Boots...so even though I RARELY wear tennies to the park, (they are just OK)

I LIVE in my Ariats.. best cowboy boots out there for riding and walking. So, if I have to be on my feet all day and doing a LOT of walking..my boots are the ones I tend to wear . (And can you tell I live in Wranglers also? LOL):D

I think I just may give Crocs a try. I am thinking of the Athens but I might go with one of the clog styles. I love the Chacos but just can't see paying that much for casual sandals.

I am SO excited!!! Disney Crocs!!! I wore my Crocs for 8 of 10 days we spent at the park. The 2 days I wore tennies.... blisters!! Hot spots!! No fun!!!! Crocs for 8 days = happy feet!! :D I wore them to the meet and Tod even took a picture of them. LoL He said, "oh my, Crocs!!" I said, "Yes, Janine is my friend! I love Crocs!" He took a picture while everyonr else said "Ahww (corny ahww)..... CROCS..." LOL The debate continues!! :)

Oh, and another observation... I wore my Crocs for 8 days in the park and my feet were pretty clean!! ONE DAY back, INSIDE my classroon all day (too hot for the kids outside) and I got terribly dirty feet... either Disneyland is a very, very clean place, or the carpets at my school really need to be replaced... :)
