View Full Version : Help- Disneyland with two kids, height restrictions
Jwebbal 06-11-2006, 04:56 PM I was thinking of taking my two kids on a spur-of-the-moment trip to
Disneyland. By myself. Has anyone taken two kids (a 2.5 y.o. and a 5.5 y.o) to Disney without another adult? My partner thinks I'm nuts, and that we wouldn't be able to ride the rides because most of them only fit two people.
Is that true? I can only think of a couple rides where the height restriction is so high to exclude a 5.5 yo riding by themselves, but not enough room for a three people. The bumper cars at Flik's come to mind, Autopia is another (can't remember the height restriction on that one to ride alone), maybe Buzz?
MammaSilva 06-11-2006, 05:00 PM You need to check the rules, as a general rule the CM's won't let a child under the age of 7/8 ride alone in a vehicle....just a thought there....but there are several things you could do with the 3 of you. I could see it working on Pooh where you and the younger child could sit right behind your older child. Same with alice in wonderland ride....but don't expect them to let him/her drive her own vehicle say in toad or in dumbo or cartoon spin ....
Jwebbal 06-11-2006, 05:08 PM So okay, what rides would this be the case? I think three can ride on Peter Pan, Mr. Toad probably not, Alice I don't think so, Autopia? What are the others?
bradk 06-11-2006, 06:00 PM well it's not so much seats as it is room. i don't think you'll have a problem on many attractions to be honest.
twokids 06-11-2006, 06:44 PM I always take my kids by myself. I have a 5 and 1 year old. It is a lot of hard work but it is soo much fun. One thing I will stress, if you are the only adult, is to stay as close as you can to the park or onsite if possible.
The big rides are out but there is a lot you can do! DLR has a new pamplet that they gave us that lists all the stuff the smaller kids can do. All the rides mentioned in a pervious post allow for three small people or one adult and two kids. I have never had a problem getting on and my son is very tall for his age. On Alice, your five year old can even ride in front and you and your one year old can go right behind him. The only ride that I would stay away from is Autopia because everyone must be seated, no lap sitting, and it can get a little tuff trying to help steer, press on the gas and trying to keep my one year old sitting down. Plus, I was very scared someone was going to hit me from behind.
Anyways, there is plenty of room on the rides for the three of you. The main thing is to go have fun and enjoy!!!! Bring a lot of water and suncreen. I can't believe how many young children I saw who were very sunburned!!!
hlbtimes2 06-11-2006, 08:15 PM I've take two kids on: Peter Pan, Buzz, Autopia, astro orbitor (dont recomend unless you are thin- I'm not!), casey jr, dumbo, carousel, snow white,
mr toad, story book boats, tea cups, Alice, its a small world, jungle cruise, haunted mansion, pooh, tarzans tree house and Tom Sawyers Is. There is probably more. Two kids with one adult is work, but it can be fun!
rentayenta 06-11-2006, 08:17 PM I have taken my 3 kids by myself. They were 3 months, 3, and 4 the first time I took them without DH. They are now 9, 7, and 4. Last July I took them alone and on BTMRR a CM rode with the the older two so they could ride because DS wasn't tall enough. On Star Tours the CM allowed me to walk through the line with the girls and then wait right there so the girls could ride it. I am sure it depends on the CM but last July we hit the CM jackpot. I even had CMs help me take food to the table during meals.
Not to toot my own horn but I have driven them from Utah to California, done Disneyland for 5 days, and drove back all by lonesome. :D I love it when DH can go but I refuse to not go because he isn't there.

And if there isn't a CM who can or will help you, find another park guest. I find that people are incredibly helpful if you just ask nicely. In turn, I offer to help all other guests all of the time.
Has anyone taken two kids (a 2.5 y.o. and a 5.5 y.o) to Disney without another adult? Yep. Make sure that they know to look for a cast member if one of them gets lost. I take my little ones most of the time alone. DH can get cranky. :D
Bring lots of snacks and focus on what you can do there, not what you can't. Have a great time and don't go on a Saturday.

Sorry, I have to disagree. I wouldn't do this. Ever. You don't know who that friendly helpful person behind you in line is. I have no problem chatting with people in line, on the train, etc, etc, but there is no way I would allow my child on a ride with a stranger. Especially a dark ride. Call me paranoid but my cost-benefit analysis says NOT WORTH THE RISK!
That said, as others have mentioned, there are many rides the three of you can ride together. hlbtimes2 listed most of them. Don't forget that you can see shows and parades together, too.

I don't think they meant to ask a stranger to take your child on a ride- I think they meant you could ask another guest to help carry food to your table.
junglemom 06-12-2006, 01:54 PM My DH and I split up at the park all the time. I have a blast with my two little ones 3 and 5. We were even able to ride the Matterhorn. The CM out my 5 year old in front of me and I was strapped in with my 3 year old.

I spent a day at DLR with both my kids, alone after my mom left and DH was coming in. The boys were 2 and 4. We had no problem with going on any rides that we chose, and sitting 3 in a seat. We had no problem on Autopia, Buzz, Alice, Toad, Peter Pan, Dumbo, Pinnochio, Pooh etc. Most of the rides are built large enough for 2 small children and 1 adult. By the time you can't sit 3 in a seat, the child is old enough to sit alone.
I even recall sitting behind my 4yo and his 5yo cousin on Pinnochio.

Oh, I have done my share of misreading posts too!
When I have 2-3 trays of food (Hungry Bear or that place is it Cafe Orleans?) and I just forked over $40 for basically FF, I need assistance to carry it. I really don't care who helps me.
Also, when there are 3 of us (oldest child is 7, so can go alone), I don't mind pairing him up with another child of the same age when there is another group of 3 nearby. It happens a couple of times a day.

You are awesome for doing this! I bow down to you of much stamina and patience and would like to be you when I grow up! :D

LOL! Now taking all 3 to the grocery store is another thing. That fries my patience- go figure.
I have always liked traveling/driving with them. They have made the drive so many times they know the landmarks and that Vegas is 3 movies away. ;)
