Stick your own pin in Google maps (http://www.theregister.com/2006/06/06/pin_in_map/) -- The Register, 2006-06-06 (!)
We reckon this will appeal to anyone who's trying to organise a wedding reception and is dreading the obligatory "yeah, well, the map you sent was bloody awful so we ended up driving the wrong way up the M1 for three hours" - a smart new initiative which allows you to mark a spot on Google maps, stick a pin in it with added text details and then email the link.

Yup, try Pin in the map, developed by Winchester-based software outfit Eden Development. Company supremo Chris Parsons explained: "Pin in the map was designed for the simple reason that we discovered we needed it. Before this, we were forever printing out maps to write on, and or marking the exact location on a map in a paint program. This is a very nifty use of the Google Maps API. For example, rentayenta was asking where in Disneyland is Cafe Orleans (http://mousepad.mouseplanet.com/showpost.php?p=888415&postcount=14). With PinInTheMap, we can just say here (http://pininthemap.com/74c47858f04b59406)!

That's cool! :)

But zooming in on that map...it looks like you stuck your pin into The Disney Gallery. :)

Depends on if you're talking ground level or what's above.

I think it looks like the pin is stuck in the roof of the "dining room" of The Disney Gallery.

I think the pin-maps API must not compensate for the rotation of the Earth in between placing and saving the pin. That's the only explanation.

Unfortunately, "Google Maps" is one of the least browser-neutral mapping sites on the Web. It's especially bad with Mozilla running on Linux. Also rather slow-loading, even for a map site.

Pity. Nearly everything else Google has is AnyBrowser-compliant.
