View Full Version : Just shy of 3 months
june1st1997 05-26-2006, 11:11 AM This is my first post and I am so excited! I visit the board several times a day, whenever I need my Disney fix.
As a new mom I have found PARENTING IN THE PARKS very informative. We have a big Disneyland trip planned for June 1st. On June 1st 1997 the man who would become my husband and I had our first date at Disneyland (up until then we hated eachother... actually a really great story), it was truly magical and every year we go back (usually for a few days, although this time we are staying just one night...GCH). This time we will be visisting for 1.5 days with our brand new dd, who is just shy of 3 months. I'm breastfeeding and have read the thread about that. I'm feeling pretty good about the whole trip... except I'm not sure whether she will be able to go on any rides. I plan on using both the stroller and Bjorn. If I have her in the bjorn would I be able to take her on the Fantasyland rides? Small World?
If riding with her is not an option, that is fine, we go often and I can wait. We already have another trip planned for August. (They reopened Space while I was pregnant and I am dying to check it out... thanks to this sight I am well informend about trading off with my husband.)
Also a quick question about strollers... We use her car seat and Snap N go... That should be fine... right?
I am just so excited about sharing this special place with her. Any info or thoughts would be greatly appreciated.
adriennek 05-26-2006, 12:13 PM Absolutely. And you can breastfeed on a few rides beautifully, too, FYI.
She can go on any ride without a height restriction except Roger Rabbit. They won't let her on RR unless she can sit up by herself. I took my youngest when he could but I wished I hadn't.
HM is loud in the elevator if people scream, but it is otherwise a quiet and gentle ride if you think about it.
POTC and iasw are 15 minute long rides, in boats, great nursing rides!
DLRR is another great nursing ride because you don't have to get off until you are ready.
And, yes, you should be able to keep her in the Bjorn for many of the rides, including iasw & Fantasyland rides.
Here's my favorite thing to do on Baby's First Trip to Disneyland:
Get yourselves to Toontown to meet the Big Cheese. They'll let you in with a group of other people. Let them meet Mickey first. You go last. They'll all LEAVE and you'll get Mickey's undivided attention. Mickey LOVES the little babies! He's not allowed to hold them, but he loves to see them and pose with them. I'm not big on dropping bucks on the official Disney photos but I have the photos of all my babies meeting Mickey for the first time, plus lots on our camera, too!

I forgot about this - yes, but you won't be able to take the car seat on rides.

june1st1997 05-26-2006, 01:30 PM Thank you so much for the insight. I'm especially excited about the Mickey suggestion. I've never spent any real time in Toontown and am excited about exploring a new land. An official pic with Mickey sounds like the pefect way to start the trip.
thank you again.
Koala Gurl 05-27-2006, 09:33 AM I second IASW and POTC being great nursing rides. I would often go on Pirates just to nurse DD to sleep (she won't sleep in her stroller, but for some reason, this one would knock her out...after the drops of course!)
Most of the other Fantasyland rides are too short for a nursing (at least for us they were.)
About the stroller / snap & go...if you are going to be there for the day, personally I would take my child out of the infant seat and put her in the stroller. DD was out of the infant seat by 4 months though since she just didn't like it as much (and it would have been earlier, but she was just swimming in the "big girl" carseat.) My DD would definitely have preferred to be just in the stroller (ours took the carseat but also had a full recline.) Just our experience! :)
About the Bjorn, I was told I had to take DD out of it on the Carousel, but only once. I think I went on about 3 or 4 other times and even specifically asked, and the CM said no problem. So you may get some inconsistency on this (just be prepared.)
ETA: If you have any other questions, ask away! I have been taking DD since she was about 6 months, and I know there are many others who are happy to help.

Another nice thing about nursing on both POTC and iasw is that it is nice and cool in there and being that you will be there in early June, it will be warm so a cool place to nurse will be nice. Unfortunately, POTC will be closed during your upcoming trip, but keep it in mind for nursing in your trip later this year.
june1st1997 05-27-2006, 05:55 PM Big thanks to both Koala & Mommyto2boys! I never considered how important a cool environment would be to nursing... But I just found out it's going to be 80 that day... I'm sure that will come in handy. We are planning to be there when it opens at 9... then going back to the hotel for the afternoon if it gets a bit too warm... then heading back to the park around 4.
Another quick question. Mosquitos... Should I be concerned?
All these things I never really thought about before I became a mom. It used to be grab my season's pass and go.
Thanks again for the insight!

disneynut 05-28-2006, 11:58 AM I've never had a problem with mosquitos at DL. Not sure why but the kids never have bites on them nor do I see any flying around.
Watch the sun though. We always put big, floppy hats on both kids to protect their faces when they were that small.
I think AK mentioned the DLRR as a great nursing ride. I've got to second that vote. You don't have a set time limit on when you need to finish nursing and the scenery continually is changing.
Koala Gurl 05-28-2006, 12:47 PM You're welcome! :)
I have gone on IASW 3 times in a row (well, getting out and back in line again); once or twice for DD, and once to nurse.
The only thing that would bother DD about nursing on the train...the whistle. At 3 months though, she probably wouldn't have been startled by that, but definitely when she got older.
I've never noticed mosquitoes.
june1st1997 05-28-2006, 02:37 PM Thanks for the mosquito info! I looked into bug repellent today and while they say you can use it on infants 2 months and over... That is some pretty scary stuff. After your posts I feel so much better about going without it.
We bought our big hat and tried it on. She isn't pulling at it... yet. Hopefully it will stay that way.
Thanks again everyone!
