My wife and I always go to Teppanyaki in Japan at Epcot for our first dinner at Disney World. Well, we made reservations again this time, and realized, was that such a great idea? Anybody seen or taken a two year old to Teppanyaki? Was wondering how they dealt with the young kids and the stove top where they cook. Any information would be extremely helpful. Thanks,
jt

Of course it depends on your child, but mine LOVED that place. It was perhaps her favorite meal of the entire trip. The sizzling sounds, the chef throwing food around, people clapping and laughing... seriously, what more could a kid ask for?!

They will seat you at the end of the table - not the "hot spot" - you should be fine. When we got there last year, my 3-year-old fell asleep in the stroller, we sat at the end and he stayed behind us in the stroller, he slept through the entire meal!!! Poor kid was wiped out!

Mine loved it. The food is great for kids. I have had kids sleep through dinner there which is nice too (gives adults a break) but your dc should be fine there.

I can second what Wendi said about the CM's seating the child off to the side. The cooking surface is still hot, but not super hot like the center part of the cooking surface.

My 1 1/2 year old loved it. He thought it was cool watching the chef. It just does require a little more child supervision than usual given the cooking surface.

If you can get a highchair, that would be a way to contain your little one as well. I have seen many children in our local "teppanyakki" places. Some seem to love it, others seem to be terrified by it. You know your child better than anyone, if he/she scares easily (loud banging / fire / throwing things) you might want to wait until they are a little older.

We took our son there on our last trip, which was a couple weeks before his 2nd birthday. He did fine there, really seeming to enjoy both the ford and the "show." He does tend to be willing to eat anything (strange since his mom and I are both very picky eaters), so pickier kids might have a rougher time getting enough food to eat.

We weren't really worried about the cooking surface as he was strappedin a high-chair. It did make for a bit of a small dining space for him, though. More recently (at about 2 1/2 ), he now refuses to sit in 8 high-chair. that would make me much more hesitant to take him there now.

I think it's funny they'd call a teppanyaki restaurant "Teppanyaki." It's like a bbq joint called "Barbecue" or a hamburger place called "Hamburger." Not exactly inventive.

It's actually called Mitsukoshi Teppanyaki.

It's actually called Mitsukoshi Teppanyaki.Mitsukoshi is a Japanese department store chain (http://www.mitsukoshi.co.jp/). I suppose that's a little better, more along the lines of "McDonald's Hamburgers" or "Luther's Bar-B-Q" (a local chain here in the Houston area).
