I, as most people do, have thousands of old photos that I'd like to convert into digital. I have a scanner but scanning them in is a royal pain. Does anyone make a scanner with an autofeeder? I know they exist for documents, but how about photographs.

Or is there a good service that does this?

I've been looking into the same thing myself. One way to go is to get a slide/film scanner, which scans the negatives instead of the prints. I think they are autofeed. I haven't figured out what to get yet, I have a lot of APS film cartridges, so I'll need the scanner to handle those also.

My Canon CanoScan 4200F flatbed scanner scans negatives, but only one "strip" at a time (like five photos I think, or however many are on a 35mm strip). It also scans positives (color slides), two at a time. So it would be a real pain to scan thousands of photos.

I'd be interested in any autofeeder too, for negative strips. Especially if you could stack them and walk away.

Since this sounds like something mainly those with a big "project" ahead of them would need only once...perhaps there are places that rent such a devise? Or a reasonably priced service/place that you can just bring your hundreds of negative strips in to, and later pick up your discs?

It looks like we're going to have to use a service like digmypics.com. I just found them and they have an excellent website. But there is the cost.

I've been looking at this scanner for quite some time, I'd love to get it but for me it's just too expensive, it autofeeds slides and negatives PrimFilm 3650PRO (http://www.scanace.com/en/product/pf3650pro3.php) Froogle has them for about 340 from some vendors.
