ON SATURDAY MAY 6TH WITH A BOOK SIGNING OF
"DREAM PALACES OF HOLLYWOOD'S GOLDEN AGE"
BY NOTED AUTHOR DAVID WALLACE
May 2, 2006 --- Launching a series of activities and events commemorating its 80th anniversary, the El Capitan Theatre will host a book signing on Saturday, May 6th featuring Hollywood historian/bestselling author David Wallace, who will be signing copies of his recently published "Dream Palaces of Hollywood's Golden Age" at Disney's Soda Fountain and Studio Store (adjacent to the theatre at 6834 Hollywood Blvd.) from 2:00-5:00 pm, it was announced today by Lylle Breier, senior vice president of worldwide special events for Buena Vista Pictures Distribution. This event is free and open to the public. Copies of the book will be available for purchase at the Store.
"Commenting on the announcement, Breier said, "The El Capitan is one of the greatest dream palaces in Hollywood history, and we couldn't think of a better way to kick off the 80th anniversary than with a book signing by one of the foremost authorities on the subject. Eight decades of great entertainment is a major milestone for Hollywood, and we're proud that the El Capitan continues to deliver the ultimate moviegoing experience. This is a great opportunity to meet David Wallace and to learn more about our unique Hollywood heritage."
Author David Wallace will sign copies of his new book, "Dream Palaces of Hollywood's Golden Age," at Disney's Soda Fountain and Studio Store on Saturday, May 6th from 2:00 pm until 5:00 pm. Published in April 2006, the book provides an all-access tour of the 25 most brilliant homes, restaurants, hotels and theatres of Hollywood's Golden Age (late 1920s - late 1940s). The author combines fascinating anecdotal history with 200 new full-color photographs by acclaimed architectural and fine arts photographer Juergen Nogai to illustrate a unique and bygone era of glamour and elegance.
"Dream Palaces of Hollywood's Golden Age" explores the lore of Hollywood - the fame, the money, the luxury - that has long fascinated the American public. The best architects and designers of the time erected jewels for the stars to live and play in. These jewels, done in primarily Art Deco and Mediterranean and Spanish Colonial styles, evoke pure romance and a sense of triumphant accomplishment.
Wallace is a nationally recognized Hollywood historian and author of the best-selling books, "Lost Hollywood" (St. Martin's 2000), and "Hollywoodland" (St. Martin's 2002). He is also the author of "Malibu: A Century of Living by the Sea" (Abrams 2005). He lives in Palm Springs, California. Juergen Nogai served as collaborator on Wallace's book about Malibu.
